In the last few years, a whole lot of new lore has been introduced through the books. Halo 4 has ties to The Forerunner Trilogy and the Post-War Series of novels.
Now, the Legendary Planet first seen in the epilogue of Halo 3 and the Halo 4 Announcement trailer, is clearly a Forerunner Shield World, but what if it is something else entirely? I recently read about The Greater Ark which is mentioned and described in Halo: Cryptum and Primordium. The Greater Ark is the first of the two Arks, the other being The Lesser Ark or Installation 00. If you look at the Ark from Halo 3, you know it has 8 arms. Now, what if those arms could be raised? If you imagine The Ark and fold the arms up, they form a sphere(with holes over the areas they don’t cover.) In the center would be the artificial sun(Lesser Ark only, Greater Ark had Plasma Rods on each of its 6 arms). There would be a hole in the bottom which is where the opening would be to enter it from the outside. Obviously, DNA samples of every species were sent to both of these Arks including living beings. So I believe its quite possible, that the Legendary Planet, is actually The Greater Ark with its arms raised to form the outer shell and act as a Shield World. The Greater Ark is located at the opposite pole outside the Milky Way Galaxy. What are your thoughts?
EDIT: To further support this theory. Since both Arks could act as Shield Worlds seeing as how they were both outside The Milky Way Galaxy, could it be possible that The Greater Ark was on the edge of one Installations effective range and so, would have to be closed up in order to protect those inside from the effects?
Or maybe, The Greater Ark is where the Forerunners decided to go in order to preserve their species and seclude themselves from the rest of galaxy. So maybe, this is where they have been residing this whole time since the Halo Arrays first activation.
Thus explaining The Librarians and possibly The Didacts survival. The Librarians survival is confirmed by the damaged 343 Guilty Spark Duplicate, actually Chakas, in Halo: Primordium, and Chakas is now taking the Humans aboard the UNSC Infinity(speculated vessel, not confirmed) to The Greater Ark in order to see The Librarian.
It’s a nice theory, but I don’t think it’s true. Look at this picture. Look at the size of the lesser Ark. The Greater Ark is even bigger. Now, this is my conjecture, but the legendary planet does not look big enough to be a folded up Greater Ark.
More likely, I think, is that the Legendary Planet is just an artifical planet, much like the Forerunner Council world in Cryptum. It could potentially be a shield installtion, but I am holding off judgement at this point.

I havn’t ruled out any other theory. This one just sounded interesting when I thought about it. Truthfully, its probably gonna end up being just a Shield World, but you never know. If it was The Greater Ark, that would be incredible.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, it would definitely be cool if the Greater Ark were still around and could fold itself up. I’m just saying, based on the proposed size and what I have observed of the legendary planet, it doesn’t seem likely to me. But hey, I’ve been wrong before.

I didn’t really take size into consideration, however, what we saw in the announcement trailer may just be scaled down and bigger in game, or we didn’t exactly realize how big the legendary planet actually is.

Well, I’m basing my assumption both on the announcement trailer, the Concept Art teaser, and Halo 3’s legendary ending; and it’s a big assumption, mind you. I could easily be wrong.

These days with what little info we have to go on, all of us are making big assumptions, even with supporting facts.
> Halo 4 obviously has ties to The Forerunner Trilogy and the Post-War Series of novels.
What in the world gave you that idea? Certainly not the countless iterations of 343i’s confirmation that those series would have “resonate connections” to the Reclaimer Trilogy.

I got rid of ‘obvious’ from the sentence. Maybe now you can understand what I meant.
I agree with your theory i have read all the new books it would be good for Chief to meet the Librarian first before the Didact so she can “Temper his rage” as 343 mentioned at the end of HCEA

Crystal Clear!
And I doubt this theory. Mostly on the size issue, as well as, assuming the Great Ark was built in proportion to Installation 00, that the petals could not realistically fold into a ball. They are too short, chubby, and taper too quickly.

Never said it was a perfect sphere. They could have other parts inside the arms that fill in the gaps.
