Possible additions

So, I’m sure that you’ve all heard someone say, “You just want halo 2.5. You hate change,” or something along those lines. The truth is, people like me who criticize this game for being too far from the Halo formula DON’T just want Halo 2.5. We already have it in the MCC. We want a new game that doesn’t screw with the core formula, and we feel that the game in its current state does that too much. So, here are some ideas that would benefit the game in a healthy way that doesn’t blur the line of what is and isn’t Halo.

  • More interactive maps. No things that outright kill people, but things like line of sight changers or moving platforms or EMP’s are great.
  • More weapons/vehicles. There are tons of different innovative things you can do with this, for example a mine thrower or a mass EMP gun
  • New gamemodes. Something like War from CoD: WaW would be great (Think its called Momentum in AW?)
  • Destructable environments
  • A grenade type or weapon that temporarily places holes in geometry to shoot through or have new lines of sight or drop to a lower platform; would do little damage to a person or vehicle and would fizzle out if you hit them with it.
  • A grenade type or weapon that temporarily blinds someone.
  • Ability to pick up/move small objects. You can already push them, so why not let us pick them up and place them somewhere for cover?
  • Openable/Closable doors. Would make for some interesting defense situations, I think.
  • Mappable controls.

(Stolen from Erik L)

  • Ability to swap weapons with a teammate (both press and hold a button at the same time while within close proximity)
  • Maybe the ability to throw weapons to a teammate (only works if cursor is on a teammate)
  • Ability to block a punch (something simple but requires skill so that it’s not just a double-beatdown-fest)
  • Grenade catching device to throw away a live grenade (takes the place of one of your 2 weapons and treated like a power weapon)
  • Ability to throw a 2-second-lasting camera that links to your HUD so that you can look for campers (consider this a new ‘grenade’ type)
  • Gun that you can use to shoot your teammate with to charge his shield like the Focus Rifle (used when he’s making a push, for example)
  • Ability to set triggers to warn you when an enemy has entered a certain area
  • More interactivity and destructibility of the maps
  • Ability to submit a ‘grudge match’ invite in the post game lobby in which you can bet your credits/rank for added competitiveness

It’s not that we don’t want change, it’s that we don’t want change for the sake of change. If you agree with this post, add new features that you would like to see in the next Halo game; If you disagree, say why you think that the spartan abilities are good additions to the Halo formula

If the core Halo formula is guns, grenades, melee, then Halo 2 already screwed with that with Dual wielding. You’re trading the ability to zoom and throw grenades for extra mobility.

All Halo 5 is doing is trying to add an extra element to the formula: mobility. Crouch/skill jumping, etc is the precursor to that.

The changes themselves don’t take away from the Halo formula, at least in my opinion. They enhance it. Now, if the implementation of those changes is unbalanced, then changes need to be made.

Which is why we have a Beta.

Dual weilding doesn’t change the core formula because it doesn’t change the fact that it’s still guns, grenades, and melee as the primary focus. 343i has said themselves (not sure on the exact video, but I think it was the beta spartan ability overview they released) that they want to add a 4th pillar. They ARE changing the core formula. Its not whether or not they are, its whether or not you agree with it.

I feel like many of the player abilities and pieces of equipment over the years could’ve just been made into weapons instead. They wouldn’t have to try so hard to invent new Forerunner weapons, and if someone didn’t like something they could just delete it off the map or put it on a map where it actually fits. Example, the Gravity Hammer could both be more effective at reflecting projectiles and have a charge attack, effectively making it a Ground Pound - Hardlight Shield Hybrid, which would further distinguish it from the Energy Sword.

Jetpacks are cool, just not as a spawn ability.

Damn. I had some ideas while I was playing Halo PC the other day, but I just can’t remember right now.

> Grenade catching device to throw away a live grenade (takes the place of one of your 2 weapons and treated like a power weapon)

To give it more utility, I say it should launch grenades back at an increased velocity, and they explode once they hit the surface instead of bouncing. Also this would apply to your own grenades if you threw them at your feet and picked them up with it. So basically it’s a power weapon that converts grenades into deadly ammo. Also obviously a Forerunner weapon, perhaps a broken off part of a Watcher.

No. Moving on…

This I found interesting.

The ultimate evolution of classic Halo Formula is a game with the only relevant weapons being BRs, DMRs, and CE Pistols in re-skinned variants of Ivory Tower, Blood Glutch, Midship, Valhalla, Ascension, Zanzibar, and Lockout. Personally it’s something I’ve seen plenty of and I don’t seen a inch of flexibility in the formula. It’s why Halo 3’s mp didn’t have a lot character when comparing the differences between the game reinventing upheaval of HCE to H2 and then the barely noticeably baby step of H2 to H3. Bungie started backing away from the restrictive old formula because it’s got no more room to grow.

The camera idea I like. I think it should be 5-10 seconds of usage time tho. What could be a counter to it if an enemy was to EMP it or shoot it from where it was placed? Only thing is that it would also have a down fall or a limit to using it since it would pretty much be like that AA from Halo 4 I can’t remember.
