Possibility of Halo Wars on Steam

Would it be possible for Halo Wars to come to Steam, so the I could play on PC.

I’m afraid not. The game is far too old and the developers were closed after the release of Halo Wars.

It’s been almost four years. I’d say it’s pretty unlikely.

In steam constantly appear:
- Old games
- Very old games
- New 8-bit game
- New indie game
So why not let an old, but loved Halo Wars on PC?

Halo Wars is just for Xbox 360. The key point of Halo Wars was to achieve excellent RTS gameplay on the console.

Because

  1. Halo Wars was developed for the 360. It would require time and money to port it to PC

  2. They wouldn’t waste the time because by RTS standards Halo Wars is very simplistic and not enough people would spend money on the PC version to warrant the port. Especially when there are a multitude of deeper, more engaging RTS on the PC.

If you want anything Halo, you Xbox. Simple as that.

The thing is though, that was done previously, with much deeper game play. Universe at War, Battle For Middle Earth 2, Supreme Commander, they all performed well on the 360 controller.

Ensemble also made Age of Empires 1, 2, and 3. Personally AoE 2 (the Conquerors’ Expansion) is my favorite.

Unfortunately, I don’t believe any of these are on Steam. Hopefully there are still servers that allow for online matchmaking - it’s been at least 4 years since I’ve tried this.

The old AoE (I cannot speak for AoE Online) has that addicting quality that Ensemble is known for. Released over a decade ago, it’s still fun to play. Graphics are older, but gameplay is fun.

steam is a competitor and this game might have a chance to be on games for windows live with a must use xbox 360 controller (for online purposes)

Implying they will. Microsoft also has plenty of games on Steam, i.e. Fable, Age of Empires, Microsoft Flight, etc

But on topic, I would love Halo Wars to come to steam, but the only problem is that this game was made for the xbox, not for pc, so porting it to suit to PC controls would take time and money.

It’s was only made for console due to it’s simplicity. In other hands: If there was a port version, it would most likely be a hit and would be as popular as StarCraft, or even more so.

Additional Details:
Robot Entertainment (former developers/members of Ensemble were also responsible for Halo Wars’ add-ons and most patches) are working on a new game. I personally can’t wait to see what they have in store. New RTS?
