Not sure if this was addressed for Infinite or if it was addressed in MCC, but just curious if there’s possibilities of existing coatings having a pallet swap for whatever reason within Infinite. For example, the Karaba Sirocco coating that’s being advertised as a flight incentive is clearly a nod to Gundam. Even its name is a direct reference to and organization and character within Zeta Gundam specifically. Does the possibility exist that a homage that gets too close to the source might get changed without notice within Infinite?
I ask because in MCC, there were skins that were very on the nose references to the Jurassic Park Jeep and Tour Vehicle. Those ended up getting changed, though I do not know the reason why. I presume it’s because of it being too on the nose to the source material the skins were meant to pay homage to.
That being said, whether we’re earning free skins or paying skins, I’m ultimately wondering if the lessons learned in MCC means we won’t one day be surprised that a skin we get for free or premium fees doesn’t suddenly turn into something different out of the blue for whatever reason it may be. Or if there should be some expectation that the possibility does exist that it could change at any time, particularly with premium items.

I only see names of colors/colors themselves being changed/removed if they cause 343 to run into legal issues. Besides that i cant see them removing stuff just because.
If they have to do a drastic change to something, I would assume they would compensate players with stuff IF the skin was paid.

I don’t see them removing stuff either. Like with the Jurassic Park skins, I see them just redesigning it then changing it the next opportunity they get such as in a patch. Currently I’m fine with the JP situation. However, it does make me curious if that possibility is still open in Infinite, particularly with premium paid cosmetics. What would the situation be if you intentionally paid for a pattern that looked a certain way, and then 343i was forced to change it for whatever reason such as for legal ones. Would we be refunded? Would we have to deal with it as is? Even for the free ones gained through just playing. I feel like it could potentially be annoying if a skin you’ve worked and put hours in for as a goal ended up being changed internally to something else.
Tough to say because usually these things happen due to oversight or lawyers. It happens to everything though, so yea sure you could expect it

Perhaps, though by all means correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t think what had happened with the JP skins in MCC has occurred in other games (particularly ones running seasonal content models) where there’s an instance where an item was updated and changed to something different to avoid legal issues whether it be for free earned content or premium items. And from the looks of it, 343i is still going for some cosmetics that pay close homage to other properties like Gundam with the Karaba Sirocco skin incentive for flighting, so it’ll be curious to see if that stays intact or if someday 343i is forced to change that like with the JP skins. It currently doesn’t seem clear what happened there, it’s mainly assumption so far from the looks of it.

This is an interesting thought, I didn’t know that the Jurassic Park themed skin had been changed at some change.
