Summary
Man has anyone seen the steam player population chart? It is very telling how people are receiving this game. I know I saw a boycott post a few days ago on here and I’m here to tell you there is no need for that. This game has that 343 player population plummet magic! I think I know why they removed the player population counter on Xbox, it is extremely embarrassing. Oh and don’t expect this post to stay up too long, I think it’s gonna hit a little too close to home for the mods.

I mean… BTB is broke.
I think a majority of the playerbase plays BTB more than anything in the playlists.

Bungie pulled this when D2 base game launched. Then they tried to cover it up and failed by saying the player base was lying about the huge drop. The base game lost 80% of the player base, and from there on out any time the player base dropped so low they would hide the numbers so new players wouldn’t see what’s going on.
343 did this to themselves and because all of the unnecessary changes that were only to benefit them has literally caused more issues for this game than there was ever needed. Now they are going to spend all this time and resources that is a waste of time and resources to look for ways around what they did to this game.

I don’t play nearly as much as I did when Infinite first dropped multiplayer. I finished the Campaign and moved on to other games.

I’ve said it before but 343i had an open goal to dominate the FPS genre for years to come given the current state of the market…and they’ve completely missed all by their own incompetence.
There are already a large chunk of players that simply won’t come back now so literally thousands of missed opportunities to generate income. It really beggars belief that they could release such a game in such a broken and incomplete state…it’s bordering on negligent.

you only provide one half of the story adn not the console numbers

Console numbers aren’t available. So no one has those. But it is reasonable to suspect it would have a similar trend as the pc population. And given that it’s the only data available the pc population and twitch data is all we can use to extrapolate.
I would wager the console population is higher than on PC mainly because Halo’s fan base has always primarily been console players. With that said, it likely is following the same loss trend as PC.
while not impossible, it would be absurd to assume the console base is holding strong or even growing while PC is plummeting.

I think another factor for pc anyway is that some of them might be used to twitch shooters not like games that are twitch able but more of twitch reaction and halo being a bit more less twitch in some cases I can see them leaving as they aren’t used to this

I play BTB but its broken ATM, not going to play modes I dont want to play.
And to be fair the other modes I have tried I still get matchmaking errors & server disconnects so I’m done with MP till it gets fixed!

BTB’s current state has probably contributed a bit to those numbers. I know that other than completing the Challenges, I haven’t been playing that much due to my favorite game mode being broken.
Given how a patch isn’t predicted to come out until January - after Christmas and New Years - it can turn out to be a rather big oof. It’ll depend on whether Winter Contingency can help offset those numbers a little during the holidays.
I guess I’m always into things that aren’t popular, like good music
Console numbers are available and published every week. You must not be looking hard enough

This game launched with glaring problems, including but not limited to:
- Some of the worst netcode on the planet
- BTB is absolutely awful and is not fun at all
- The progression system is bad and only exists for battle passes
- The cosmetics / monetization system is so predatory it makes EA and Activision look generous
- There’s not much content; large content chunks from previous games are entirely absent
And 343 is basically doing nothing about any of this other than saying “we’re on break for the holidays”. They’re saying it will take a month to fix a relatively minor problem like BTB connectivity.
This game will bleed out its playerbase quickly if these things don’t change.

Given the outright unplayable state MCC was in and how that came back on the upswing, I suspect the same will occur for Infinite. While Infinite has its list of problems, 343 having been actively fixing and adjusting has catered some goodwill already and, I suspect, will continue to do so.
Whether or not things should’ve been done in the beginning - and rightly so, a good percentage of the problems/fixes should’ve been taken care of at the start - won’t end up mattering with how much they’ll be able to win over back due to their active listening. The F2P status, current drought of good FPS games, and the rise of various Ytubers taking up Infinite - more likely than not - has a good chance of it boosting back to Halo 3 levels of popularity.
And then there’s Forge and Co-op when they get released as well as what other updates/additions may come during then.
Long-term, Infinite still has a pretty good future from my point of view and I would like to see it come to pass as, issues aside, it is still a fun game to me and I’d be happy to see it grow for the better.

When you have a game we’re hit registration, no enemy collision audio is a mess and cheating is starting to become more common. Then the devs focus on player progression and playlist options instead of fixing the core mechanics. People get fed up and leave.
Why don’t you suggest a link or state where that info is?

The MCC didn’t make a comeback at all. It saw a temporary boost solely because it was released on PC. the updates and fixes the last couple years did not bring many people back at all.
It was too little too late for MCC to have a decent population.
Halo 5 had the same issue as well with content taking ages to release.
The very same thing could happen a third time with infinite. People don’t need new shooters to play. The fact it’s still is hemorrhaging players while BF2042 flounders and CoD vanguard’s lukewarm reception, should be alarming for any gaming executive.
People will just go back to warzone, prior CoD entries, other BR games, etc.

Your point being what exactly?
I still play like 1 or 2 games a day but there really aint nothing to do in this game. Campaign was a joke on Legendary and the world was empty. MP has bad map design.
I beat Legenday in 6h28m
