Please stop trying to put to it down to “other games”. Halo 3 had a ridiculous population until pretty much Reach; other games have nothing to do with it. The population is because this game it is not compelling and it certainly is not competitive.
The only people left playing this game are those who play casually, for the sake of playing a bit of Halo (there is absolutely nothing wrong with that), but please do not try to downplay the fall in population to “other games”.
I am only referring to the Multiplayer by the way, the rest I think is excellent.
Now inevitably, there will be responses that state “If you don’t play Halo for the sake of it being Halo” then:
1.You shouldn’t be here
2.You’re not a true fan
2.You obviously like CoD/BF3/MoH/GoW etc.
I have to refute this, as the reason that a lot of people have stopped playing this game is simply because they either are not motivated to play it, due to the lack of competitive aspects (which will also be denied), but if you take a look at it, this game has caused the retirement of a lot of pro gamers / long term Halo fans (Ghandi, Darkman etc)
Please don’t flame the competitive community, they have as much history in this franchise as the rest of us. Halo will always sell, as the story is what brings a lot of people back, but in conclusion, the reason for the population decline is due to:
Void of competitive aspects/gametypes
Lack of compelling gametypes/removal of peoples favourite
Orientation to large scale maps
Glitches, imbalances or bugs
None of these necessarily make a bad game, but they ARE THE REASONS that the population is declining. I am not saying that any of these should be fixed, nor am I attacking any particular section of this community.

I would say take a BF3 Tank with max tech and place it next to a Scorpion and decide what’s more fun on a BTB? A sky with one Banshee or a sky filled with Jets and Helicopters. Put a Banshee next to a BF3 Jet and which one feels like you’re really flying the thing with C-Rams gunning and anti-air missiles racing behind you.
Gamers have advanced. Halo 2 and 3 were an advanced game with a major protagonist and imaginative universe. But that was in 2007. It’s the older game now. No one will let it be something great. I get more chills looking at Bungie’s concept art work because they are unfettered on what they can bring to the table. I know that with Halo under Microsoft I’m going to get the Scorpion over and over again, every title… Always.
Always the same Cheeseburger over and over maybe with some choices in mustard and 343 certainly solidified that despair in me with this title and lack of Open Maps and new Vehicles. Halo will never compete with COD if you keep demanding it stay in 2007.
Remove the AAs, whatever make it Halo 3 for the competitives, but it can’t compete with destructible environments and realistic flight mechanics with watered down vehicles and boring Alien Ai that spam the fuelrod or pull cute little doge animations for a game selling a Horde Mode and MM playlists in todays market.
But whatever that’s my problem because I love tech and tanks that go fast.

Ok, so you’re going to ignore it because the evidence has the potential to prove you wrong?
…so if I just copied the same exact info from that reddit thread, posted it in some Halo community forum like HaloCouncil, and didn’t tell you that it was from reddit, you’d believe it?
