Poor map design is a heavy price to pay for sprint

Here comes yet another argument as to why sprint should be removed in the next main Halo installment.

Disclaimer:
Please do not tell me to go play MCC (it’s dead since 343 swiped it under the rug after the launch of the broken game).
Please do not say that sprint improves the game by making it faster. It doesn’t since maps are made larger to accommodate the faster movement. Sprint is an illusion, period.
Please do not tell me not to sprint since it punishes me for moving slower than others.

As long as there is sprint in the game, 343 will never be able to provide the kinda gameplay that made Halo so popular in the past. When players have the ability to rapidly change their movement speed at any time, maps have to be designed to accommodate that. That means you can’t have fan favorite maps like Lockout, Warlock, The Pit, Guardian or Shrine. All of which provides unique close quarters and vertical gameplay. None of them would be able to function properly or be able to provide the kinda gameplay that was so popular in the past, with sprint in the game.

When you can sprint in maps that small, it wouldn’t be possible to maintain any kind of map control since anyone can at any time sprint across the map in seconds, likely before shields have even recharged from the previous encounter. This is accommodated by making maps larger. Compare Truth to Heretic/Midship for example. Truth is way larger than the older versions. Thing is, when you make the maps bigger, it ruins the close quarters and vertical combat that made Halo special.

Larger maps are also the reason for why the bullet magnetism is so strong in this game. And why all weapons are basically capable of shooting across the map.
Have you noticed how easy it is to use the Sniper Rifle in this game compared to previous installments? Thank sprint for that. As a direct result of sprint making it harder to hit moving targets, bullet magnetism has to be increased to accommodate that.
Have you noticed how overpowered automatics are, how grenades are small nukes, how none of the maps are really unique or memorable(I’ll admit it, this one is subjective) or how poor of a mechanic spartan charge is? Sprint is all I have to say about that.

Sprint is a poor design choice and the downsides of having sprint far outweighs the pros. Lackluster maps are a heavy price to pay for the illusion that is sprint to be in the game.

Discuss. Please stay civil.
Thanks.

Remove sprint

Sprint, I don’t know how I feel. I think sprint has been more of a controversy then it’s worth.

I would prefer it gone, but whatever.

Also, there’s a sprint mega thread already.

Thanks for your input! I appreciate it.

I kind of assumed it’d be alright to create a unique topic about this even though there’s a mega thread.

But it’s not unique and therein lies the problem.

Ask a mod to make sure it’s okay, that’s usually a good rule of thumb if a topic seems to similar

You assume too much.
Please, keep it clean.
