I know that there is nothing that I can do about the connection, and that it hardly takes any skill to get a 50 now but it is the only reason why I’m still playing this game.
Anyway, as the title suggests the poor connection that I experience in Halo 4 is costing me a possible 50. I’m currently 45, but I’m constantly being put into games with terrible hosts. The odd game that I enter with a good connection I usually dominate, but other than that I am at a constant struggle as my hit registration is always poor. In games where there is a good connection I usually take 4-5 shots to get a kill with my BR, in games where the connection is not so good it takes 6-7 shots to kill with my BR.
I also experience a bit of rubber-banding in some games, and it becomes increasingly frustrating when you are constantly being warped backwards because the host Xbox can’t update the game fast enough.
Just a quick note, it isn’t my connection. I can play every other game (excluding Halo 3 but it’s 6 years old, give it a break) with a solid connection, Halo 4 is the only game I have this problem with. Even when I play with a party of 4 (All within a 5 mile radius) in IS, the game still finds a terrible host.

You quit on my team without even trying.

If I can’t contribute to a game because I can’t hit anything, or move anywhere, why should I stay? I can tell what a games connection is like the second it starts, if I can’t sprint at the start of a game or I’m rubberbanding at the start I’m going to quit out relatively quickly.
I don’t know the specific reason why I left this game, but I can assure you it was lag related.
Edit: My first game since making this comment, happens to be full of lag. But I stayed in it because my friend was playing with me.

This is why I don’t play in games that lag (my friend was lagging even harder than I was), they are unplayable. The only reason why I managed an even K/D was because I abused the Energy Sword. I could hardly hit any BR shots.

Ooh…
You should click this.
Well just don’t quit man, and I think losing connection doesn’t interrupt your “50”. I could be wrong though.

Even though I explained why exactly I quit the games…

How can you say don’t quit? Do you understand what rubberbanding actually is? Do you know how frustrating it is when you have to shoot 7 times with a BR to get a kill, sometimes even more?
Constantly being paired up with Americans, meaning I am at a complete disadvantage.
To me it seems like you’re making excuses because you don’t have a 50. I faced lag/ constantly being matched with Non Europeans and it didn’t stop me getting a 50.

I agree that quitting is bad, but what fun is it when your tossing plasma grenades through people that should stick but don’t even touch them or that you put 7 DMR rounds in the head of a guy approaching with a AR AND have your auto turret blasting away at him too and he runs up, shoots one burst of his AR at you which removes your full shields and your dead. He Never even had his shields drop from 7 DMR shots to the head and wasn’t using damage boost either - it’s lag.
I have just given up on H4 (likely H5 too) and switched to Reach, so that I can it’s optional Connection Filters (I have not found them to make much difference so far - as Reach is 99% lag free versus less than 30% lag free games in H4) and it has far better host selection methods than H4 will ever have. It isn’t my location (Western Canada), or foreign hosts (most games in the evening here are USA hosted) or my Connection either (8 ms ping time, 70 ms ping across North America, 50 Mbps down load and 10 Mbps upload) - it’s H4 - other games don’t have these issues.
Unless 343 fixes the Host / Lag issues in H4, I won’t play multiplayer in H4 again. I still enjoy H4 Campaign or Spartan Ops Solo - but Co-Op play is a joke in H4. And with H5 due next year - I don’t expect them to do do anything further with H4 to resolve it.
The real problem here is the lack of a location search restriction (like Halo 3).
Even though you are lagging etc you shouldn’t quit, otherwise the game will put you in last place and you definitely won’t ever rank up
> Even though you are lagging etc you shouldn’t quit, otherwise the game will put you in last place and you definitely won’t ever rank up
^ This guy has the right idea.
Regardless, I would like to be the judge of the lag that causes you to quit. Just to make sure you are not making a deal out of nothing. This game is very good at handling international connections, it’s people watching YouTube, Netflix and torrenting while gaming that are causing the problems.
And no, other games have the same problem including Black Ops 2. You simply might not know what to look for. I will give you a clue, in Black Ops 2 it looks similar to a drop in frame rate.

What? I don’t care that I don’t have a 50, it’s just difficult to find a game where I can actually pose a threat towards the enemy team.
I only started playing Halo 4 again on June 3rd, so it’s taking a little while longer to get a 50 and if I’m honest, I’m still not enjoying Halo 4 but the only reason why I’m still playing is because I’m trying to get at least one 50. Not that it matters much to me, as I said in the OP
> it hardly takes any skill to get a 50 now but it is the only reason why I’m still playing this game.
I am in no way making an excuse, that being said most of the games I’m being put into are a constant uphill battle against lag. My patience isn’t that great at the best of times, so when I’ve joined a few games where I can’t really do much I get annoyed and leave.
