It would probably work as multiplayer armor, maybe even add some poncho customization option.

NOOOOO! Just…no.

Sorry kiddo, I will not accept a Poncho Chief. It may work in Gen 2 armor, but Gen 3 armor is too bulky for any cloak that could be invented. Also, the Real Chief does not need to wear such human protection. I mean, could you actually imagine the Halo 3 Chief in a cloak? It just simply does not make any sense. If I saw Chief in a cloak, I would actually not be sure that it is a Halo game at first glance.

I don’t think. In Halo 5 we have never seen a poncho so no It is not

He’s not just like the teaser itself.
It wasn’t even supposed to be an explicit Halo 5 teaser,
it was nothing else than a visual confirmation that Halo will continue on Xbox One.
It was just some concept design, which should be obvious, since there’s no reason
for the chief to wear a poncho, apart from that the Guardian looked entirely different
than those we encountered throughout the game.
