polling booth is useless

I liked the idea of polls. but I never liked the polling booth. it just seems like a poll in a relevant forum is moved and then lost in a flood of other polls. it just isn’t helpful in my opinion.

polls should stay in the forum they were created in because they are likely to be relevant to that forum.

EDIT: changed title.

I agree, the polling booth does not get the traffic needed to get mass votes, polls would be better served if they were in the sections they pertain to.

Yeah, I agree.
It’s a good idea on paper, but in reality, it doesn’t work all the well.

seems like no one cares about their polls not being in the forum they relate to.

> Yeah, I agree.
> It’s a good idea on paper, but in reality, it doesn’t work all the well.

don’t all post at once.

come on this is serious, hardly any polls get read any more because their aren’t enough people viewing the polling booth. this means that polls are quickly forgotten; and because all polls are moved into the polling booth it makes 99% of the polls useless. the 1% that are useful are usually reach and some halo 4 polls.

agreed cause I mean all of the polls are put in one sections os it is kind of hard to see which poll belongs to what, then most just get lost in a sea of posts.

I’ve brought this up before and the ‘official’ response was:

> Originally polls were not allowed. So to come to meeting point between admins and users the Pooling Booth section was created. That’s not up for discussion as it’s already happened.

Basically, they want to be as annoying as possible. We can make polls in the polling booth. We can make a thread in any section and then link a correlating thread that’s in the polling booth that contains the poll, but we can’t neatly have the poll and thread in the appropriate section. shrugs

they must have a screw lose or something because the whole system is stupid.

Agree

Perhaps categories in the polling booth could be a solution?

> Perhaps categories in the polling booth could be a solution?

perhaps, but then what’s the point when polls could be in the relevant forum anyway?

A part of why the polls are neatly tucked in its own section, is because polls have very loose guidelines as to quality of content. In essense, we saw that a lot of polls effectively worked as petitions, where threads contained a bare minimum of information, and about a miniscule detail or suggestion. Essentially, a majority of the polls(and beore they were banned, petitions) are/were more or less spam. Petitions were banned because of it, and polls were once not allowed because of it. For the time being, polls stay, but in its own section, to keep threads above the clutter.

And you don’t even need to try!!

I applaud you.

but isn’t it your purpose to remove spam anyway? if the polling booth were to be removed, you could lock polls you consider as spam just like a thread. yes a lot of polls will still not be noticed or will just be pushed aside by another poll, but at least a poll aimed at a particular part of the forums, will stay where it should be; and not be mixed in with 1000’s of other polls that are unrelated. that and the polling booth doesn’t get enough traffic for all those polls to be useful.

so if polls aren’t in the right place, what is the point of them in the first place?

and perhaps you should decide on appropriate guidelines for polls too.

We already have guidelines for polls. You can find them here.

The Polling Booth was created as a way to offset the initial enthusiasm that typically occurs when getting a new forum feature (Remember when we first got colored text? There were rainbows everywhere!). Now that the honeymoon phase is over, I think we can consider allowing them in all sections of the forums.

I agree. The Polling Booth was a silly idea, polls belong in their original thread. Or something.

This thread should be reformed as a Poll that asks the question: “Is the Polling Booth useless?”

Up and down, Yes/No vote.

Let the masses decide.
