POLL: Will Forge Help Bring Back Players?

I agree and that’s where Forge comes in. The Forge leaks on Youtube are F’n Awesome! IE: The mod in Breaker Called Doom looks awesome! Just to name one. As soon as I get Forge I have some awesome ideas for the BTB maps Fragmentation, Hightower and Deadlock. I hope to try to make a map from scratch from Halo Online Called Diamomdback!

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

C: Forge will bring back some players BUT if the game still runs like it does now (desync, lag, rising ping, shots not registering, being shot behind walls, crashes, data not loading in windows, being kicked out of matchmaking for no reason, being dropped from a squad for no reason, being banned for no reason, lack of new maps, and so on) most of the players will leave after remembering why they left in the first place.

Besides, Forge is Fisher Price, any real mapper/modder would prefer an actual HEK (Halo Editing Kit) but we’re not getting an HEK anytime soon because if they released a proper HEK no one would have to pay for skins and we could make our own campaigns.

You say things like this, and I honestly need to question you’re knowledge of Bungie Era Developers.

Modern Bungie is nothing like they were During the Original Trilogoy+ODST.
The Bungie that Developed the Original Halo is not longer the same Bungie that developed Destiny1&2.
The entire original staff is gone short or a handful of creative directors I think.

I understand what you are saying, but we pay them, not the other way around to do their job. So for them to rely on us to do their job is disrespectful.

If forge world turns out to be decent then I will be spending time doing what I enjoy the most out of any Halo game. But, this is 343 last chance, if this is strike 3 I have no reason at all to ever touch this game again.

Alternative take,
Have you considered that 343i has been pushing those players away?

Like, Forge has been massively popular since its inception.
But Halos 4-5 Forge was REALLY bad, like unplayable bad.
Which, btw, coincides with the massive drop in total player number for the series.

Could it be that,
If forge is done really well,
And the entire Forge community that was previously ostracized by poor decisions by 343i.
would be re-invigorated?

Alot of work it put into forge,
Players like having the opportunity to just relax and create, and talk with other people.

I think its really dishonest to call that part of the community “Small”, when the only reason it became as small as it is, because 343i Neglected them;
While they were trying to aggressively chase the competitive shooter scene.

How are people going to find forge servers to play with out of curiousity? I could see it best working with a custom game browser, but that’s not going to be implemented into the game as of yet. Is there going to be a matchmaking system for it, and toss us in random forge servers, or are we going to be reliant on finding friends and creating servers that way through a friends list?

No, it will not. But it will help add content to matchmaking so that when Certain Affinity’s new mode comes to the game, the new influx of players will see that the game has way more content than it did at launch and it will help retain those players.

Yes, it will bring back some players (and bring some new players in, too!). Looks like it’s a very solid next gen Forge and it’s generating some much needed excitement.

However, IMO, it alone won’t reverse the trend of less and less interest and fewer and fewer players. Assuming it’s a really solid experience and it fixes much of the game’s map variety problems (and provides a steady influx of new and enjoyable maps over time), it in conjunction with a more consistent seasonal schedule of about 3 months per season could definitely be a great combination.

You’re not laid back if you go out of your way to write peace after every post

Actually, you would be incorrect about D1. Some of the key devs like Marty, Staten, Barrett, Gavin, etc… worked on D1. I think you should be questioned about your knowledge.

Everyone knows the Bungie today is not the original Bungie, so the question stand, how could you even think I was referring to the talent, passion, inspiration, motivation of a true developer that created Halo vs a business riding off the original Bungie’s work as 343 is actually doing and not doing a good job at it at all?

Halo 5’s forge was heavily panned for breaking a ton a physics that forge previously had,

Forge was not included with 5 on Launch either, it was released 2 months after, which by then lost a large part of its already dwindling forge community.

Forge itself was…
Busted? I spent a lot of time in it trying to build maps, but using it was very very frustrating.
On top of the early release crashing issue that would occur when trying to save maps, but you can only lose so many hours of work before you give up on it.
Halo5’s Forge didn’t launch in a great shape, which probably contributed to alot of people abandoning it.

Honestly its one thing to enjoy custom games,
But its a different problem entirely to be the one developing those game.

Yeah, and you seem to like pointless Semantics,
Destiny 1 Wasn’t well received after launch,
hell for a live service game it had an unbelievably short lifespan.
The game sputtered out a Year after its release and a year after that D2 was announced

Destiny 2 is the game that garnered the most attention.
And again, most of the people from the original Halo Team we’re gone by then.

You are the second person today that attempted to avid the actual facts pointed out, and tried to use “Destiny 1 wasn’t well received after launch”, blah blah blah as a “legit argument” to try to steer the conversation in a different direction.

Guess what?

It didn’t work. Please do your research before making a reply, especially about things you don’t know anything about.

youtube will bring back players. if really fun creations are made and they get miillions of views then thats free advertisement. When halo 5 forge started, youtube let people know what was happening and kept people coming back. Forge had it limits though and the creations started gettiing stale so people moved on. At the very least, short term, inffinite is going to attract a lot of players to try out all the new wacky modes.

Depends on:

  • The state of Custom games/Browser
  • How quickly Forgers can build, test, and get their creations into Matchmaking (and if 343 has a Community Arena playlist ready for the public).
  • The quality of the maps made (not worried about this AT ALL, but it still matters).
  • When 343 will add new modes that can be forged with (still no Infection).
  • The quality of the forge canvases (H4 Forgers know what I’m talking about).

Forge alone won’t do much.

As of now custom game options are really limited compared to the other games (fpr instance if you want to have random weapon spawns you need to use the fiesta mode while previously you could just set the spawning weapons to random).

Infection also plays a big part in custom games, but judging by the limited customization options in custom games even Infection won’t really save custom games.

Forge without custom games is like your favorite dinner but you don’t have anything to eat it with.

Also judging by the leaks there aren’t spawnable campaign AIs in forge which’ll also upset the community (there’s a PvE mode in the making, but that mode is PvEvP, not solely PvE).

Lastly Infinite has been lacking content for such a long time that most players have just given up on the game even if it has a MCC comeback somewhere down the line (why play the content lacking Infinite if you can play the content rich MCC and if you’re on PC even have mod support and access to cut content).

The biggest problem is all the pressure to satisfy the halo fans with content will fall to a few dozen forgers who actually bother to make good maps compared to the thousand of forgers in the halo 3 days

Well the reason I think it will do alot is because of the content for Custom games. People like me get tired of playing the same old stock maps and game types. The new content from Forge including game types will make a big difference IMHO. If you have not checked out youtube with the different demo maps have have been made with Forge. I suggest that you do check it out. Look at MCC with all the custom maps and game types.

IMHO we need our own Dedicated Game Server For Custom Games so we don’t have to rely on theose MS Azure Game Servers.

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

For any aspiring YouTube content creators that would like to join the halo news genre, I can see a massive gap in youtube channels doing daily shorts and weekly 10 minute expose’ on Forge maps being released.

Sure all the channels are talking about forge right now, but almost none of them do map/gamemode/asset build/other forge content in 10 minute digestible videos routinely.

I don’t see anyway that it’s really going to revitalize the community in any major way. People will come back and try it out, sure. But realistically forge has become over-complicated and isn’t super approachable to the average player in the same way halo 3 and reach were.

It’s a full blown mao creator now. What really matters I think is how quickly 343 is willing to implement player creations into MM. If they add in more diversity of maps and gametypes then we could see a surge. But just having forge by itself… I don’t know. The odds seem pretty low. But haha just me.
