Poll: who actually wanted infinite to be f2p

Personally i agree with everything you say but i don’t agree with this fully. The FTP model gives incentives to not do what i am suggesting. If an item that is earned in game through skill is cool than anything less cool in the store immediately becomes less appealing to many people.

I would say the cons of a FTP system are many and 343 didn’t do enough to mitigate them so i would have still of preferred the standard price of a game and then whatever content we get we get then pay for DLC. Thats just the system in gaming i feel gives me the most bang for the buck. Monster Hunter Rise is probably the best example of this. The amount of content i get for the game plus DLC is outrageous.

I get the pros of FTP but would like 343 to go against the natural incentive to not give us skill items and gives us at least one armor set earned through skill.

I would prefer at least 2 though, one for campaign challenges and one for making Onyx in ranked.

I think we mostly agree that 343 is to blame and i am just asking that they do better. Im sure over the years Infinite will keep improving just wish it didn’t launch without so much.

Yes. The Halo IP, which has more or less been accessible from a single platform or two, has managed to maintain itself as a successfully selling franchise over the years. Yet, when you reference “big numbers” for its population you have to keep in mind its relevance from an accessibility perspective.

While I won’t dispute its population is in a less than ideal spot I have to question where you’re pulling in your evidence that it’s one of the worst in the franchise. Can you show me the counting stats from all of its accessible platforms? Xbox (One, SeriesX|S) & PC (Steam, Microsoft Store)

Maybe it wasn’t a more profitable title at release, and maybe it won’t be more profitable than some others for awhile, but it holds the potential of becoming the most profitable if they can get things righted in the future and they’re certainly working on that.

Do remember that those who were interested enough to play it’s campaign have essentially paid for the equivalent of a full title release or are constantly sinking monthly subscription payments into the GamePass membership for access to it.

“Struggling” as in the sense that the developers are tying to overcome a highly limited content launch and their horrific follow-on services? Yup. No disagreement.

“Struggling” as in regards to its active population? Well, only as much as the game’s rough launch state and crappy follow-on support put it into. But, I also suspect it’s not nearly a bad as you’re trying to suggest.

True, but this is also why 343i are attempting to correct many of their mistakes. They’re trying to reverse the negative perceptions of this title.

As someone who’s been pretty turned off by this title and have sunk a minimal amount of time into it I can appreciate many of the changes/improvements they’ve made. I’ve got mostly positive perspectives on this Winter Update.

In any case, the F2P model allows people to easily access the title and try out it’s multiplayer again and again whenever they want. It’s as restrictive as it’s file size and whether you own a PC or Xbox. Oh, and have access to internet.

No disagreement. It’s largely been a big giant disappointment. It’s precisely why Bonnie Ross is now gone. Make no doubt about it.

I guess we’ll see how things turn out in the future. But, I still fail to see how all these issues can be chucked up as the fault of the F2P component because it’s not.

I don’t so much mind the f2p, but i would have liked owning the campaign to have a bigger impact on cosmetics i could earn for multiplayer.

4 friends of mine played Halo Infinite because it was F2P, they would have never tried it if it wasn’t free. Sadly, only 1 still plays like an hour a week with me.

I was excited to hear it was f2p and cross platform because it had the potential to restore the popularity back to the Halo 3 days by bring new players and pc players into the mix.

Then the game released in its current state and all the new players and old fans tried it and left in a hurry

You’re right. We should have paid $70 just to wait a year for the game to include forge and custom games. Infinite would have been a better experience for sure if we paid money to have bad servers for a year+. These surface level posts are amazing.

Not really, but it’s not like they would have cut out the FOMO market, mobile game style mtx, battle passes, etc if it was $60 for both the campaign and multiplayer so it’s probably better that they went F2P. (See Halo 5, and basically every AAA multiplayer game since the mid 2010s.)

im sure everyone would’ve loved halo to be free, did we want halo free if it meant lacking content and features, paying out the %$$ just to change our colors or being restricted to certain times to earn stuff for no reason at all? i dont think it being free is the sole reason why this game sucks, it’s just 343 and their incredibly stupid decisions.

it was the stupids thing there ever have done.

when this game was still in developing a lot off people have give 343 a warning sign more about there multiplayer F2P idea.
we all told there on that thread it was the stupids thing to do.
since if you look now at warzone from cod what is also F2P.
since that has launch and few day’s ago has been closed all the time it got a cheating problem.
have there fix the ceating problem in warzone from cod back then no it was a big fail all the time.

and like back then F2P is more a invite to cheatiers to come to the game and destroy the fun at all.

if it was now following the same thing like all the halo serie’s by make it Pay To Play with the campaign now then you can make a better multiplayer from it like use the season system in MCC that you get season tokens to unlock things.

and i think there only care at 343 more about that if we make it F2P then more players will play this game and we see now it has the lowst population ever and also fast.
Halo 5 and halo 4 have done better to keep the population in the multiplayer.

The sad truth is that a lot of ancient Halo fans don’t play Halo anymore, or don’t play video game at all anymore, because their interest and hobbies shifted, or they got time consuming careers, or they have family of their own. This said, Halo lost it’s touch in the past years, it is no more a lighthouse license for gamers. I’m older then most of my real life friends and they almost all never played Halo or even barely ever heard of Master Chief; they are mostly into F2P games nowadays like League of Legends and Valorant. When Halo Infinite came out, I played with some streamers which never tried a single Halo of their lives (and it it hadn’t been F2P, they wouldn’t have tried it). They were complaining how unfair this game was because of vehicles and that vehicles were out of places in a shooting game… Lol. Just to show you how clueless people can be towards gaming, even if they are gamers themselves. If Halo Infinite wasn’t F2P, there would be even less players on the servers.

there is sometime’s a point when a game serie’s is losing its top spot since there are other game’s that are doing better.
since after halo 3 a lot off other game’s have come out and only more and more have come out.
and sometime’s you cant keep up with then.

listing a MMORPG game like LOL is a compleet diffrend thing then halo or cod so you cant make a good diffrends between then.

i think not.
i think the population was more stable like in halo 4 and halo 5 was.
the problem is that 343 not has learn from the mistake’s COD has make with WARZONE.
F2P means maybe good for the population but it has also the worst hell effect’s there is and the question is more is that it worth for a biger population.

the worst hell effect’s are most that you get a big cheater problem and people hate cheaters in multiplayer game’s the most thing so was it then worth to make it F2P when you get a big cheating problem?

since day one off the game launch people have report all there is a cheating problem in matchmaking with Aim bots and wall hacks.
and the most off all the battlepass we have that nobody has ask for it.
the customization is worse.
nobody is happy with a small playlist option to choose out from.
same with chance the playlist each time after some weeks what nobody has ask for.

all is the population the same as in halo 4 and halo 5 most off the people accept that then have a F2P option.
so yea do you still think it was a good idea there have done to make it F2P with the worst hell effect’s from it?

and that you know also there is also a small war between the Xbox communety vs PC platform communety thanks to the F2P option.

I’m going to leave this poll up for whoever wants to vote. I will not close it.

As the original poster of this poll I feel it’s time I put my 2 cents in.

I flighted this title from pretty early on.
When it came time for the shop test flight I played and my first thought was oh snap we’re gonna earn credits and be able to buy armors as we play.
I though it was great.
Then the game came out and the store turned out to be a mtx disgrace that I won’t even bother touching.
Won’t even go in to it for the freebies.
Had this game launched as a paid title, with the store being exclusively tied to credits earned for the time you play and no armors being locked behind an MTX paywall i’d have 0 complaints.
Hell i would actually have a reason to play! I LOVE LOOT!!!
It would have 100% justified the cost for me if they had went this route because they wouldn’t be trying to nickel and dime everyone for cosmetics.

Also I just want to say while I disagree completely with the way F2P has been implemented in this game I am not completely against F2P. If anything the F2P model of this game should have been a base multiplayer experience to let people try the game and decide if they wanted to buy in. Free users have all the basic access, modes, maps etc but if they want the armors and goodies of the sort buy the game. If they had gone this route a lot of riff raff would be kept out and the Halo name would have sold the game itself. Would it be better financially to turn away a ton of the community for MTX and $10 battlepasses or would it be better to launch the game as a $60 paid title with $20-40 dlc every 3-12 months and a basic F2P option to let people dip their toes in and decide if it’s for them. Id go for the paid option any day of the week. Absolute disaster this title has been since the beginning.

I would say Infinite should have been a paid game. But that is assuming we got a fully released game with content if it was paid. It deserves to be free to play with the number of issues and lack of content we got for the past year.

I’m glad they made a F2P game and I was excited when I heard about it. It should be the default F2P FPS that people play on the Xbox if the game was a success. That’s not the case as we all can see.

In fact I think they should completely separate the campaign games and the MP game and have different studios working on them, like what they are doing with de BR mode.

It wouldn’t hurt having each company focusing in something they can do well. One creating epic campaign games, the other managing the F2P live service thing.

With all the studios Microsoft have bought in recent years they could do more for the franchise. And with the lack of IPs on the Xbox they should do more for the franchise.

Weirdly enough, tho I didn’t want Halo: Infinite to be F2P and I voted accordingly. I actually seriously appreciate the MP being F2P although I dislike the business model, as someone who has several other fairly expensive hobbies; the shop doesn’t interest me but also spending $60 up front or $15 a month just to play a few times a week at MOST is a revolting thought.

I think I agree that at this point the challenges are silly and too easy. But I also think that the primary issue is that casual players have nothing to work for/grind for. In reach, you would grind to get credits to buy the cool armor pieces you were looking at. In h5, you could grind for achilles. In halo infinite, there is nothing to grind for (with the exception of these challenges). But the challenges feel so frustrating at times. With all the other halo games, you could progress towards getting new armor simply by playing the game however you wanted to play. With the challenge system prior to the winter update, you could only progress by playing the game the way 343i wanted you to play.

Realistically we just need a progression system, and some cool exclusive armor that is tied to that progression system, and cannot be bought.

i think its good to let it stay open the poll since that 343 can see more what the communety thinks about there idea from there F2P formule more.
that in this case a lot vote it that there not like it that the multiplayer has become F2P.

I voted in favour of F2P. It’s not like I actively wanted Halo Infinite to be F2P prior to launch but honestly I’ve changed my mind. As long as there remains no pay to win elements I think F2P brings more good than bad to the equation.

The things that have gone wrong with Halo Infinite aren’t because of F2P in my opinion. I don’t think the launch would have been significantly better with the traditional pricing model. I feel like we would just have less players and the same problems. People probably would have also been even angrier about the existing problems after paying full price (charging full price for the campaign and then offering people stuff all unlocks is a seperate issue).

the only good thing about F2P is that you get a big population and more players are going to play it thats the only good thing.
sadly halo infinite has mis that point big time with there lack of contant, lack of playlist’s and most off all the big problems it has that not get fix at all since today.
the bad things it has are more the worst you can ever get.
battlepass nobody like’s it at all.
and the most worst thing you get is the big cheating problem there cant stop at all.
look Warzone from cod since launch day t/m today.
it has show us that F2P and a populair game titel is asking for a big cheating fest.
and in all the live spam from warzone not any anti cheating software has work.
all is it more god mode you give to the normal players to fight against the cheats its still a compleet fail.

Personally I don’t believe that the results of this poll really mean anything considering it’s on halo waypoint.
