The problem of 3 maps except for Salvation, every building on the single map seems the same color, texture and lighting, I bare know which area I am in. And too many climbs to interrupt the flow.
I hate Perilous. If Absolution tune textures, color scheme and some heights, maybe better.

Salvation is just the better map of the 4. It It adds good colors to easily identify where you are, it has a nice set of tight area’s and open area’s for combat and it seems well placed in everything. The only thing I couldn’t figure out is if the buttons did anything, or were just there to attract attention lol.
Perilous is just a large maze, it feels like the layout is just all over the place and it’s easy to get lost.
Starboard is nice and simple, but I feel it could benefit from more cover a bit. The middle section feels like it’s just a giant death zone, since it has little cover and you can get attack from every direction. Unless you have solid teammates, I’d probably stick to the walls the entire game.
Absolution is like Starboard, but has a little bit more cover. But still feels rather empty, it’s difficult to pick out what specifically seems lacking.

How am I supposed to know which map is which? The UI won’t load any of the map names.

Go into the community tab and search them up by their names. I don’t play 4 vs 4 often, generally sticking to BTB, so this is how I played the maps to try them out.
Create a custom game and just explore them. Good way to learn the maps in general this way before jumping into a match.

Thanks, I may do that. I just think it’s sad that the UI can’t even load the names.
It’s like when they released the remake of the Pit and they decided to call it something else. I can’t even remember what they renamed it to because the UI still called it the Pit.
I’d recommend bookmarking the maps before trying to start a custom game. For some reason I’ll start one and it’ll switch the map for whatever reason to a default map. Then you can just go to map, click book marks and pick the map you actually wanted to try out.
Saves a lot of hassle with the custom game tab lol.

Not sure the names but my favorite was the one with grass. I was surprised by how good the maps looked. The Damnation remake looks cool but I’m tired of that map after playing it so much in Halo CE and Reach
I haven’t played every map yet, but…
Salvation is the Damnation remake. They have related names if that helps. Banished theme map.
Starboard is the Midship remake. The name is a reference to ships and it’s in space. UNSC themed.
Perilous is the the forerunner map. It looks like delta halo. (likely named for Perilous, the song that plays on the mission).
I haven not played Absolution yet.
ALternatively, you can search them up in the file browser to explore them.
Yeah, that’s something that has been a problem with most of Infinite’s maps. I attribute it to the out line system. Before, you had red team and blue team, with corresponding sections of the map. Now that 1 player can have blue friends and red enemies while your teammate could have purple friends and yellow enemies, you can’t just color the bases any color you want.
Personally I think 343 and forgers should just do it anyways.

Yeah same here. When I was playing yesterday I didn’t see a single map name pop up
There are definitely maps that need more differentiation in the colours and textures just to assist in learning of the map. Starboard was bad on that front for me (So is Argyle) but I didn’t find Perilous to be much of a problem. It’s okay if some maps are a little harder to learn but it shouldn’t be a regular thing that will disadvantage new players too much.
It doesn’t have to be red and blue either. They can do it in heaps of creative/interesting ways trying to fit it into the theme of the map.

Red and blue was just an example.
Meltdown from halo 4 was like ice and fire. Behemoth uses the sun to orient players (although this isn’t effective enough imo), maybe you could mix UNSC and Forerunner elements together. Heck, Vahalla just used water.
Basically, I just wanna maps like Deadlock or Bazaar.
It’s only early days yet but I liked all of them, need a bit more time playing to really say how good the balance is. I was really impressed that they all looked better than the 3 forge maps 343i released.
Starboard needed the most work I think. A little more cover and maybe a few less precision weapons because the centre is guaranteed death unless your team is in control. A bit of a re-texture or something to help differentiate parts of the map would help and maybe moving some of the weapon spawns to more obvious places to make it easier during your first few plays.
Absolution was one of my favourites gameplay wise, especially for CTF, and most of it looked quite good. The backgrounds outside of the map really let down the appearance (I assume that’s a forge limitation).
Perilous was the most impressive graphically. Was really impressed at how different it played to most of the existing maps. Need to play more game types on it to see how they all work.
Salvation looked the most epic and had really unique features but I thought it wasn’t quite as polished graphically compared to Perilous. Seemed to play really well for one flag. Played KotH and found it difficult to traverse and compete for the zone depending or where you spawn. Didn’t get to play slayer on it so hard to make a final judgement.

Yeah I love Damnation, and I love that the community does too, but I’ve always felt that that map only played well has Halo Reach’s Penance. The Jetpacks allowed player to disrupt those spawn traps where the team on top would just the very predictable routes to the top of the map and merk you with BRs and snipers. The grapples and Repulsor help, but they’re so limited.
