I gotta pick other and state: Progression Systems (Challenges + Non-Battlepass Progression)

I’m gonna love when everything else on this list gets addressed, BUT right now the progression system needs a lot of love for a few reasons:

  1. I’m convinced the biggest driver of retention in Halo Infinite is going to be progression. Improving progression will have a direct impact on retention, which is really important.

  2. I don’t really mind the challenge system, but it’s just not very compelling. Get a chunk of XP, and if I do enough of them I’ll get a reward. It’s just… mediocre. I always feel like I’m chasing challenges as opposed to getting sick plays in multiplayer. What’s worse is I actually want to try out different game modes and playlists, but my challenges explicitly encourage me to not play what I want to play. This past week all I did was LSS and a few Fiesta/Swat matches to complete some of the random challenges I had. I wanted to try out some of the new playlists, but I didn’t.

  3. Long term non-season progression is a must. When I’m not playing for a battle pass, there needs to be something for my challenges and XP boosters to go toward. Long term challenges based on medals would be sick (the other day I got three Ballista medals back to back with the Skewer and my heart sunk when I realized there was no tangible reward for stacking those up in multiplayer).

^ I couldn’t have said any of that better.

We’re wrapping up week one of the season and I’m already 25% done the battlepass.

I’m gonna say the lack of PvE multiplayer is a shame. I really enjoyed playing Spartan Ops and Warzone Firefight with my friends. I’m hoping we get some kind of Spartan Ops type mode soon given their desire to highlight our Spartan as being a part of the overall canon.

1.) Extreme functionality issues that effect the competetive environment. Tired of wasting XP boosts on 4000 ping matches.

2.) T-rated / overly safe story. Bring back the flood and make them fight the other factions ~ OR - maybe retell the entire Halo story in Slipspace plus or minus some retcons to fix holes. Great for consistency.

3.) Scuff progression system. Make classic gear free and easier to get. Offer more skill based rewards. Save the money vacuum for the gimmicky stuff.

My frustration is why we can’t see our lobby fireteam in different colors. Can’t find each other. Whats the point of fireteams if we cant be with who we play with?

I have issues with everything to some extent. I was so thrilled with the game up until the last two weeks of S1 when I got burnt out.

Also the lack if pre and post game lobbies is an under-talked problem.

It’s a trend with all shooters right now to curtail their lobby systems, but it’s an important social feature. Especially in the arena genre.

I don’t care if some random kid talks smack about my momma lol ~ I want to be able to bs with new peeps in the lobby and group up with that guy that beamed me in ranked for an informative 1v1.

I have close friends that I network with to this day that I origionally met in Halo3 post lobbies.

Halo has almost always been it’s own pseudo social network. Except with lots of guns, and grenades and wort worting, and teabagging.

Bring back lobbies and social features. Make people want to check their Halo details as much as they want to check their tweets.

Just a thought - no offence(!), but:

If you’re already 25% done with your Battle Pass…your frustration doesn’t seem to be big enough, since you seem to play the game more than the average player.

I’m more concerned about those people who are so frustrated, they just don’t care anymore.

Customization botched, eh whatever.
Lack of modes and maps, unforgivable, but there is hope that they will add in time.

PC optimization still being utter garbage? Inconceivable. I know I don’t have the best of rigs but this game isn’t even looking graphically intensive yet it taxes my setup so hard and I can hardly get a good gaming experience out of Infinite.

And to add to this, I have no idea what they have done to the aiming in Infinite. I’ve never had so much trouble getting used to aiming in an FPS like I have with Infinite. I’m honestly disappointed at how these technical issues are just killing the fun for me.

How I suddenly lose all aim assist. Some games are fine, others it’s near impossible to aim. I get that it goes away when jumping, etc. Makes it unplayable.

Fair enough. I also happened to have some extra time this week. I won’t be at 50 by the end of this week.

For a Game that’s been in development for 6 years and having only 1 ranked playlist. That sucks. Please bring Ranked Slayer, Snipers, SWAT, Doubles.

While there’s a few things for me, biggest one for me is no forge, if I had forge it’d keep me occupied long enough to wait for the other things

That the game was still released way to early despite the 1 year delay. They should’ve delayed it another year or two. And they should’ve been upfront that its timeline for release was always going to be another few years; therefore, Halo 5 & MCC would continue to receive active sustainment support in the meantime with plans to update Halo 5 for the Xbox Series platform as well as cross-platform cross-play on the PC.

I’d say the de-sync issues and general MnK vs Controller balance.

Mouse aim still feels weird, shots not connecting, too much bloom, if I encounter a good controller player its over very quickly, I kinda feel powerless.

all of the above and ill never understand the inclusion of sprint and clamber and all the other “advanaced movement” they added. it affects way more then just the movement; the maps just arent fun because theres no real power positions anymore, btb games play way different with less usefulness in vehicles, harder to chase down kills since you cant shoot and travel at the same speed of the person youre chasing. halo became what it is because of the original series, why did they ignore so much user feedback from those player? instead they looked for feedback from players that didnt like playing the games.

Sprint is not “advanced movement” lol it is a basic human function. I can’t believe you are critcizing the ability of someone to flee when getting shot at lol “Insert Why are you running meme here”. Imagine walking after somebody with an Energy Sword in 2022 “arggh I’m gonna get you stop walking so fast!” Sprint isn’t even that fast in Halo Infinite and if you encounter someone who isn’t sprinting they will get the first shot and likely win a gunfight, so it forces you to use it strategically.

Even clamber is essentially just “Crouch Jump”.

After playing so many Halo games online for so many years, I just don’t understand why Infinite’-Yoink!- detection and server connections are so much worse than previous titles and other game franchises.

There are times where i can literally watch a half second delay between when I pull the trigger and seeing the BR burst animation happen, but the bullets leaving the barrel delay and are obviously behind where my crosshair is aiming.

There are times where I watch the bulldog spread leave the barrel with the cone pointing legitimately 20-30 degrees angled from the tip of the barrel. Sometimes forcing a miss, because my crosshair is on an opponent, but the bullets fire 30 degrees behind where I rotated to aim.

Occasionally I’ll watch someone fire 3 BR bursts in the time the game registers me shooting once. I’ll pull the trigger, watch the visible time delay, and before my second burst even fires I’ll be at no shields from my opponent firing 3 BR bursts. And no, there was no rapid fire glitch involved, it’s easy to see their individual 3 bursts on my screen. It’s just like my BR operates in a puddle of thick mud.

This games netcode needs to be ripped up from the foundation and replaced. I’ve never played a game with so many egregious networking issues that impact the game

All of the above. I am confident that content like forge, maps, modes and all that stuff will come. Where I get pissed at the game is how they monetize literally everything people might consider to have value. The new cores are semi decent but nearly all helmets are really ugly -except one which looks like it will be sold in a bundle-, there aren’t even base colors with the rakshasa core - these will likely be weekly rewards. Only good new helmet for Mark VII is war master -also will be sold in a bundle. All this bothers me mainly because they charged $60 for the game but also because the store prices are outrageous, -I consider anything over $1 too much. No progression system, Garbage challenge system, no armor to unlock from playing the campaign or unlocking achievements. F2P was literally a death sentence for Infinite, the only reason It will likely live on - and the reason I still play it - is the core gameplay feels really good and I liked the campaign. Luckly, 343 (pre season 2) got the most important aspect of the game mostly right. All they need to do now is reverse most of the nerfs and patches to gameplay they recently made, and remove F2P, while delivering the rest of the game.
