POLL! : Well was the Halo Infinite Update a Flop Or a Winner?

Servers seem worse some how. While I don’t think it’s a big deal - they shouldn’t need to remove things like bot bootcamp either. Not sure I like the map with the island. XP per match feels fine I think, less challenges to do weekly is good.

Sad to say that the main reason why this update is a fail is that bot boot camp was removed and so was my casual way to level the passes at 2am central American time when matchmaking PVP are slow to a Crawl and I’m pure rubbish when it comes to halo PVP

Well, today I learned. Although, I still don’t think that 343 will work on a whole new feature that’s solely based on external mods.

I had more fun doing challenges so far than I have in at least a few months. Getting to play whatever I was in the mood for instead of what my challenges were forcing me into is a really big QoL improvement. That’s my main takeaway so far

Played around 20 matches since the update and haven’t gotten a match on one of the new maps, not even once. Shouldn’t they be weighted higher in matchmaking right now, so people get to see them??
That, together with the “new” free battle pass being mostly old recycled armor, and the lack of a custom browser, makes it feel like they haven’t really added new content.
I could sink time into learning to Forge my own stuff, and… that’s it, for now.

So far, for what we knew this update was gonna be, I think it’s decent. It’s nice to get a couple new maps finally and I’m really enjoying social slayer. A fun action sack like playlist. Challenges being playlist agnostic is great, no more having to play FFA (I’ve never really liked FFA in games, I like teams) to complete a challenge. Match XP is good, definitely feels like I’m getting more XP overall compared to only getting XP through the daily and weekly challenges. I’ve never been a Forger, so I haven’t really touched that and I haven’t jumped into co-op yet.

Why is there not an option to say it was not a flop?
Edit oof my b double negative stalled my brain haha.

Too soon to tell i guess.

I returned for a few games today. It was probably the worst gaming experience I’ve had in my entire life.
I can’t think of many ways to make the mp worse at this point.

It’s been a year and they’ve adapted to less than 1% of the complaints from fans.
Aiming is still broken. Crossplay is still forced and unbalanced. Zero unlockable content in the base game, only paid content and fomo content. Melee is still broken. Collision still not fixed. SBMM still broken. Still almost only north american servers. Still the most restricted customisation since 2004.
I can go on all day. You’d think 1.5 years of fans repeating criticisms would have some effect.

I’m not sure why I’d ever return and give Infinite’s MP another chance at this point, see you in Halo 7 in 38 years I guess.
This game has hints of what a good Halo mp could have been, but ultimately messes almost everything up.
I thought it had potential, but now that I know it will never become what it should have been, I’d say it’s one of the worst MPs in Halo history.
That’s just my opinion though, and I’m happy for everyone who is actually having fun with it.

Surprised to see so many comments saying they enjoyed the addition of the new maps, but none mentioned that ARGYLE was pulled from playlists almost immediately because it was causing the game to crash.

Not sure if it has been fixed yet, maybe i’ll get to play it soon.

The Winter Update is AMAZING, but there are still problems:

  1. Custom Games is still scuffed and broken.
  2. Theatre mode is still scuffed and broken.
  3. Not ONLY is there still no cross-core customization, but the bots got an UPGRADE to their cross-core customization in which spartan helmets are a different color than their bodies!
  4. No Custom Games Browser
  5. Ranked and Social Doubles removed, Big Team Social removed (BIG MISTAKE)
  6. Argyle and Detachment are not in nearly enough playlists
  7. Cannot edit developer maps in Forge despite being able to in leaked Forge builds (BIG MISTAKE!)
  8. Utter indifference from 343i on Splitscreen in general (HUGE MISTAKE!)
  9. No effective progression system despite match XP being an improvement to quality of life.
  10. Zeta Halo ISN’T A FORGE MAP YET!!!

For me its a flop because I got on and didnt even play one game. I saw the battlepass with the same reach armor i’ve already unlocked in halo reach and mcc. one new 4v4 forge map that I didnt feel like quitting out of 10 games to get a match on. Repeats in the shop and repeated weekly ultimates.

I just couldnt think of a reason to play. Ranked is dead and I dont care about 12 year old reach armor so I have no motivation to do challenges. Also the urge to play MW2 was creeping in the back of mind since the content in that game is still fresh.

How does splitscreen in PC keep you on everyday? Do you really only want to play with people in your household?

The update is GREAT. The game itself however is still a flop.

No I want to be able to play split screen with my kid, friends and others either socially online and or by ourselves if we choose just how we did back in the day. From the time of halo 3-4 that was the main way me and my friends always played. There was only a small handful of times I played solo. This is why I’m so adamant about it and will not back down.
Just for comparison I played thousands upon thousands of hours of halo 2-4 most splitscreen. Halo 5 got 18 hours out of me. Infinites at 16.

It went exactly how I thought it would. The winter update is great! Everything in it is good. But it is still a very obvious attempt for 343 to buy themselves time and it isn’t the big revival some were making it to be.
The 30 tier pass is a little disappointing with 9 tiers of fluff. And my beloved Mk. 5 helmet is at the end.
Match XP does need tuning, but welcome.
The weapon balance is so much better now, still have some small stuff, but its good.
The two maps are cool, but a little underwhelming.
Forge happened exactly how I thought it would. I can’t form a group of people in-game, so custom games and forge is collecting digital dust already.
Co-op and mission replay is a necessity. 343 doesn’t get points for the bare minimum.
BUT they did add new rewards for 100% completion. So maybe a campaign overhaul isn’t out of the question afterall? (still doubt it though)
And many things I would like to come now are slated for drop pods.
The leaked event rewards are okay, but not for me (except the JFO knees.)
Overall, everything in the update is awesome, but it doesn’t make up for delaying a season and the lack of campaign overhaul.

Ah, that partly explains it. Still doesn’t explain why I haven’t gotten a single match on Detachment yet, either. Despite all the playlists claiming to include it

Saw 0 progress on desync, still broken custom games, no gamemode browser, still very few official modes and maps (community forge maps will not alleviate this anytime soon I bet the way 343 is going, and a whopping TWO new weapons on the road map, didn’t even bother reinstalling.

The fact anyone is defending always online forge is disgusting to me.
I have a feeling I won’t see any of them still on Halo Infinite in 10 years.

We just need to let 343 employees feel welcome and accepted into our community, being critical of their work is literal denial of their ability to be good at their jobs & thus is the equivalent to taking food out of their mouths! These are real human beans here gais, now spend 300 dollars in MTX on this half baked storefront while the game is never fixed.

Variations of this have been ongoing since 2014.

As I’ve played more this week, I’ve changed my opinion from a Flop to more of a Winner, and I think it’s because of the “Search Region” Local option.

The first day seemed a bit rough, but it was an improvement over what drove me away, which was 80% of the time playing on a Server in eastern Europe when I’m in Alberta Canada and having ping times of 250 ms. I was playing during the late afternoon early evening, solo on my Xbox.

My worst ping time on Nov 8th was 100 ms in a 4v4 QuickPlay match (it had other issues too). November 9th it was quite solid at around 30 to 40 ms for QuickPlay and 50 to 70 ms for BTB. Today, I have been having ping times of 30 ms for BTB (which is amazing) and 20 to 25 ms for QuickPlay.

So it seems to be selecting the nearest Server to me now and giving me a low ping time. Hopefully it lasts.

It isn’t all roses and there are still Rubber banding and de-synch issues to deal with, but for me this is the first positive thing to happen in the game. since launch.

Things I would love would be a browser to select only certain game types OR something like TitanFall 2 had which was a Mixed Play list. Basically you select the game modes you want to play from a list, and then when you began playing Multiplayer, only those game modes would come up in a random order.

One annoying thing is I keep running into people who can fire the Sidearm like a damn machine gun. I’m guessing this is some Controller mod, which really needs to be addressed.
