Poll: Should Halo Infinite's Multiplayer Have Player Collision?

No, what I’m saying is that the OP said that there was no reason or input from the community to warrant Activision from removing collisions from the COD game and they simply did it on their own hand. I was simply stating and proving that fact is completely false as there was plenty of discussion and player feedback that forced the removal of player collisions in Call of Duty. As to what I said for Halo I stated that it was MY opinion and that is entirely my own… that I don’t see any reason whatsoever that Halo needs player collisions because I don’t see any fundamental reasons or benefits that having collisions would serve. It’s not a non argument at all, it’s a clear example of why player collisions can be abused. Just because Halo has always had it, doesn’t necessarily mean that it needs it.

The difference is that in COD you can’t jump over your teammates and you can’t “push” them out of the way. In other words, collision sucked in COD because COD sucks.

Players act to each other as movable obstacles, requiring co-ordination and team awareness in tighter spaces especially when things get heated, far more so than being able to phase through each other and potentially block shots.

We could also call for transparent allies as well because there’s no reason for us to actually see them properly if they’re not tangiable for us, and making them not barriers for our projectiles because it could be abused to block our shots.

The point of abuse isn’t with game mechanics but with player attitude.
If you’ve gotten to the point with a game where players would rather mess with team mates than player properly, you have some problems with the game itself. It’s not engaging enough for most trollers and they seek thrills elsewhere.
Trolls happen, but changing actual gameplay for the sake of “beating trolls”, you’re doing it wrong.
Match “undesired” behaviour players together if they’d qualify for a ban or get enough reports, allow them to play but only with others with the same attitudes
Frequent quitters, AFKers, Team Killers, Trolls etc.
Either they learn to play nice or they keep playing like before but are separated from those who wish to play properly. Also, without rewards of course and stat tracking.

Literally impossible in Halo.

The 83/17% split has been consistent since we only had ten votes. Now we have nearly 350 votes.

How obvious does how not split this is, have to be?

Why was removing collision EVER a consideration at ANY point in development? Halo is known for its sandbox style matches, that experience works because the map , the vehicles, the items and most importantly the players all interact with each other. Except now no they don’t because players ghost through each other now, we aren’t playing with each other, we just happen to exist simultaneously within the same match on the same team. Getting rid of a core mechanic of these games because it’s “annoying” on rare occasions is such a slippery slope it’s not even funny. Getting sniped by a scorpion tank isn’t fun, shall we make players invincible to vehicles so long as they’re not in one themselves? Heck i don’t like losing, perhaps we should remove dying too. So many games are ruined beyond repair for the sake of “convenience” in this day and age, I cannot stress how huge of a mistake this is. Unbelievable. Not even going to go into how this could negatively affect Infection game modes which are by far some of the most popular game modes in all of Halo. Sorry for the rant.

A video I saw polled in on this decision and I think they made great points.
I think 343 doesn’t want to backtrack on all their decision so they left some to stay, but once the MP launches and the flaws become obvious, they will surely change their position and re-implement Player collision.
Just think of how frustrating a death ball will be where all the enemy players clip through each other to distribute dmg or defend a flag carrier. Or how bad the experience is when you want to shoot a rocket/throw a grenade only for a mate to clip through you so you end up killing yourself.

There are many, many more issues with clipping than with player collision. Why I don’t understand how they ended up agreeing on removing collision, I am fairly certain they will reintroduce it with a bigger patch, probably when Co-Op, RTX etc. launches as the first major Patch post-release.

I suspect that there were issues with the bot AI and their attempts at pathing causing bots to just stall on each other. I could also see bots struggling to interact with real players amplifying collision annoyances.

As much as I want the Collision on to win, I recognise that MOST of the people here on Waypoint are Old-school Halo players who will have a bias towards it being ON. So I strongly feel the only way it becomes “On” by default is if people were to abuse the advantages that no collision allows, but in PUG’s that will be rare or unlikely.

Those saying it’s the AI. Bots aren’t important enough to influence this decision, and even if bots had problems pathing WITH collision, they’d still have problems pathing without it.

There is literally no way to body trap someone in Halo, you can jump over players with ease, as well as push them yourself. I’ve been playing COD since MW2, I used to play Halo for a different experience than COD, one where position matters much more, to the point that I need to be aware of my physical body, as well as that of my teammates.

I mentioned either here or in one of the other 50 polls on this topic that removing player collision is a serious overreaction. If the purpose is to prevent trolls, you need to find a way to punish the trolls. Changing the way the game plays (for the worse depending on who you ask) for the entire community is not the solution. It’s like removing splatters because teammate betray people like that sometimes. Removing collision doesn’t get rid of trolls, it just forces those trolls to find a different way. So now we’re being trolled AND the game feels fake.

Teammates colliding is simply human error. An opportunity to remind players that they aren’t perfect robots. An obstacle to be overcome, not removed. An ally in your way? Step to the side and let them pass, jump over them, move back to give them space (vice versa for all of these). Avoid choke points, move WITH you friends, not against them. Push out if you can’t retreat.

As a side note, what’s with everyone suddenly wanting to be able to run away? I though everyone hated sprint because it made bad positioning and retreating too easy for bad players. Now 343 is making it easier to run away again and people are praising them for that?

I said it before: Infection is soooo scuffed if collision is off for it.

IMO collision should always be part of the game. The issue of players complaining about bumping one another or being stuck behind someone is usually the result of their own actions. “needing to get that kill”, and not paying attention to their surroundings. It’s like how some have a bad habit of not paying attention to their radar.

Besides all that, collusion should be in place to make you think about your actions. Halo is not CoD and should never be treated like it. A fast played game where players are just running around all balls out… The other thing that comes to mind is how much fun I’ve had over the years playing Halo with collusion that it has been useful in certain situations, or just to have fun with your teammates, goofing off.

You don’t need to be an old-head to know how stupid this is.

One of the most abused is in Halo 5 all warzone types. I will be standing near the door way and there are so many times I have lost track that when I go to take cover I am block or get knocked back out by a teammate and will watch them take my power weapon. It also happens when I get players who are clearly trying to get me killed cause I am currently in first place. But as I have stated before I am okay with either.

Personally I don’t really care about Player Collision.

If its Off then I don’t have to worry about pointless drama from players that are blocking my exit from battle or the trolls that won’t let me score the objective.

But if its On then I can do things in Matchmaking that could get on other people’s nerves by accident or intentionally.

So in order to make everyone happy  just turn it Off for Rank and On for Social play. That way players that are competitive don’t have to worry about it anymore and Social players that don’t care if they win or lose can enjoy doing the opposite of trying to win the game like they always do.

The things I’m worried about is if the game was tested and designed for Player Collision to be turned Off then turning it On would most likely create all sorts of problems for most of the maps at launch. But that’s someone else’s problem.

This I such weird reason. Phasing through people makes no sense at all

I want you inside me

Yeah its pretty odd considering even at the peak of competitive play in Halo 5 it wasn’t a huge issue, so why exactly is it needed now?

Again, 343i couldn’t just let it go. They had to change something lol

It absolutely should have collision. I can see coordinated teams exploiting this by grouping up into a big mass and having the person with lowest health just phase to the back. Players will get absolutely melted.

I see more problems than benefits from the change.

Hopefully they are open enough to listen to this feedback as people get more hands on experience with the game and time to unfortunately find ways to exploit it.
