Depends. I think that it is fine not being in social and that just makes ranked so much more special in my opinion.
I never talked about immersion, but for me no player collision absolutely breaks it, my teammates look like ghosts now.
Interacting physically with other players makes them feel more real if that makes any sense.
That is like saying seatbelts where a bad idea because everyone was doing it.
Thatâs a really poor comparison.
Just as poor as their reasoning for not doing it.
Because most FPS games on PC have been doing it for 15 years. it isnât a trend to chaise, it is basic functionality.
Pretty much the same reasonings used for custom loadouts flinch, dual wielding, or whatever mechanic weâve seen over the years.
Iâd ask for a list of games using it vs not using it but that doesnât really do much as using it or not is game design specific to Halo. Doing stuff because others are doing it, in an art medium, is nothing more than uninspired design. Itâd be fun to check the situation on that usage though.
PS:
Seat belts didnât start to see usage in all cars because one car company used it and more followed.
Seat belts started seeing universal coverage in all cars because laws were passed requiring them. Prior to that car buyers were against seat belts.
More on that topic, seat belts are a safety utility in cars which reduce injury in accidents, itâs an objective improvement on the car. Itâs not something to add because everyone else is adding it, youâre adding it because it improves safety to the users and passengers when the vehicle is in use.
No matter how you twist and turn it, liking having or not having player collision is subjective because itâs two different functions which provide two different experience. Itâs an art medium. Avengers Endgame is a big scale action super hero movie in color, The Lighthouse is an extremely small scale black and white suspense movie, both popular.
So yes, it was a poor comparison to use seat belts.
The only real concern I have is that not including it makes a more likelihood of PC players Multi-boxing.
Lack of basic functionality is not, by definition, basic functionality.
I have never, and I do mean NEVER, heard of people complaining about player collision. Itâs weird not having it. Chokepoints are part of the game. Everyone not acting like lemmings fixes any issues⌠The only time that tends to happen is in custom games, where itâs meant to be that way on purpose. But player collision should have never been removed. Just like friendly fire in most modes.
I donât know why 343i refuses to learn this lesson: donât fix what isnât broken.
Couldnât have said it better myself. I would be absolutely pissed if I had a launcher and some dumb teammate walks through me a the moment of shot to then have a betrayal and miss an opportunity at a sweet double or triple kill. Of course said teammate could always just jump over my head and do the same thing but it leaves less of a chance for that to accidentally happen.
343i tried to chase trends with Halo 4, and much of the community soundly rejected it. Just because something works in one game, doesnât mean it would work nor be wanted in another game. Because by your logic, we should get rid of shields and everyone die with two or three bullet shots.
I really, and mean REALLY need someone to link me some of these âimpassible chokepointsâ that every Halo game is apparently riddle with. Bet theyâre all highly contested power weapon spawns or from games with sprint where changing/stopping forward momentum takes longer.
Iâd like for player collision to stay off, look at mcc, itâs full of betrayers and trolls who keep shooting at you the whole game
Youâre conflating friendly fire and collision here. No collision wonât stop betrayals and trolling either, it actually makes it possible even with friendly fire off since now trolls can just walk through you as you fire a rocket, having it explode on their back and killing you, but not them since they canât take damage. This strategy can be used by trolls in a variety of ways to lead to your death or to steal your kills etc, and is only possible because of no collision.
343 Industries talked a big talk about harkening back to the roots of Halo.
Yet they took out blood splatter
The EMP Effect of the plasma pistol
Took out player Collision
No classic shotgun
No Magnum
I think these developers are full of it. They talk the talk but donât follow through with action.
Lol what a huge list of betrayals you have there /s
If those are your main complaints then I think halo infinite is going to be okay.
Also PP EMP and CE Magnum each were only in 1/3 of the original trilogy, so weird that you would put so much emphasis on those.
It feels weird playing with no collision but I look forward to not having an exit or destination blocked.
Is there no way to stop from having a weapon blow you up if a teammate ghosts through you?
Itâs just such an odd choice to makeâŚIâve played Halo multiplayer for years and collision has rarely been a problem and only lasted for about a second. Having a rocket come off the back of an ally or whatever is so much worse.
Thatâs what makes you have to plan out your strategies, choke points.
I always jump when using rockets, i get what you mean but i think itâs going to be hard to jump in front of a teammate exactly at the same time they decide to shoot the rocket while in the air.
And if they shoot you or betray you in ranked, their MMR will decrease quickly so hopefully you wonât find them in your team again
*actually, after thinking about it carefully, i think player collision should stay in ranked and keep social as it is
