But it’s not easier. It’s the literally same. They will still take damage. lol
You’re arguing it’s the same difficulty to phase through someone as if they’re not there, as it is to navigate around them while they’re moving?
It’s as easy to move around someone strafing around, as it is to literally move through them?
Grapple idea, setting which allows you to have it pull teammates/enemies towards you.
Very nicely put, I agree with all of it. The poll is shaping up nicely, would like to see it on a wider scale.
Player collision was never and will never be a problem. Removing it is a solution in search of a problem
Currently 84% for collision to return. If there really is some split feedback it certainly isn’t coming from here or reddit.
I think player awareness is also part of the game, knowing who’s next to you, where you can and can’t move. It’s all part of player tactics. About bottlenecking, are you referring to when two people run after the same weapon or something? I’ve seen that term thrown around a couple times, but don’t know what it means. If that’s the case, that’s just a minor annoyance. Just the way it’s always been, and it’s whoever presses x first!
“Split feedback” has been a false narrative surrounding Halo Infinite for a long time. The community has been pretty united on issues like this, ie, about suggesting major changes to the game’s dynamic
I don’t see a lot of people mentioning the effect no collision has on combat.
I can’t wait to see how quickly people turn against this decision when they are losing kills because an enemy backpedals through one of their teammates and gets away as you get cleaned up.
Not to mention how often people will end up killing themselves when trying to throw a grenade or shooting a rockets and someone walks through you. Of course, no friendly fire means no consequence for them but you end up killing yourself.
I get people arguing for it because other players won’t “get in their way” but I am certain it’s going to be far more detrimental than helpful.
Personally, the part that bothers me the most is this is another aspect that didn’t need to be changed. It was never an issue before, just like radar range and friendly fire. Trying to fix things that were never broken.
My own personal opinion on this is that player collision should remain off because there wasn’t really a major upside to having it on for players who mostly play solo or more casually. A lot of the reasons for having player collision were to boost to higher areas of the map with your teammates which don’t really happen when you are with randoms. Also it can be pretty frustrating to be trying to back up out of a gunfight and your teammate is behind you basically body-blocking you from turning a corner, although that usually isn’t a problem in Halo. That is a big problem in something like Call of Duty, especially in their smaller maps, which is why I wish COD would have turned off player collision in Vanguard. It’s extremely frustrating for me to spawn into a small room with 3-4 of my teammates and then have a ping-pong mosh pit of everyone bouncing off each other trying to run around. Again really more of a problem in a faster paced shooter like COD but it’s good to not have those kinds of things happening in Halo. I can see there being some kind of middle option where there is some player collision; for example, if you move into a teammate you should be able to bump into them or if you jump over them you should be able to jump on their head but if you continue to press your movement and try to walk into/through them you should after a second or so be able to phase through your teammate.
That’s a fair standpoint. The only issue is that it would create an inconsistent experience. One where you may employ tactics and strategies that work if collision off, but find are ineffective or awkward with collision on.
Your reasoning here is
“There wasn’t a major upside for solo or casual players”
Why would solo players care about player collision in the first place? If they are solo, they are by definition not playing with other people, so player collision has never been an issue. Solo players concerns really shouldn’t even be a part of the discussion about a purely multiplayer concept which they don’t interact with.
In addition, yes your point on frustrations is true, but is it not equally or more frustrating to have a kill taken from you because your ally walks in front of you and takes the kill or the enemy walks backwards through their ally and blocks your shot, just for you to be killed by a new fully shielded player? What about when you shoot a rocket and your ally walks through you as you fire, killing you. There’s no downsides for that player, they won’t die because friendly fire is off.
You will see more, not less, issues with collision off, and less punishment for players who purposely block your shots to take a kill or walk through you as you fire a rocket.
LOL. Careful bringing that up, it’s a touchy subject around here.
Looks like opinions aren’t nearly as split on this topic as 343 would like us to believe.
Why does it say i’ve already voted? not that it matters since I would have voted for player collision of course.
That is because a majority of people here are from console where yeah collision is standard, the view point is different on reddit, twitter, and discord.
Also the topic its self is reductive as it works in two absolutes, when most people myself included think collision and friendly fire should exist in competitive but not in casual.
Collision is standard for Halo. PC or Console, its a 20yr old franchise. It should be in it because its Halo, not because of Console or PC.
Regardless, 343 has only ever mistepped when trying to appeal to ‘new fans’ over their actual playerbase.
Not really a miss step, some of us old fans like it. And as stated this is a new halo, they are allowed to do new things. If you don’t want new mechanics and change ups to the game, go play halo 3.
No collision isn’t a new mechanic, what kind of nonsense is that?
Kind of really a misstep when popular youtubers, reddit, waypoint all by majority want Collision back. And you can argue that its not actually representative of the Halo community but the consensus of the forums has always aligned with the larger community.
No, I don’t want changes to the game that specifically make it easier to be stupid. We’ve been over this. Smh.
Having new collision is a new mechanic it literally changes how you play some sections.
Have you ever played a PC FPS? Cause almost none of them have collision for a reason.
Following the crowd is never a good reason for a change.
