I vote no just against the “buddy jumps,” no offense as I understand some players like these “mechanics” but all these things are dated then that need to be moved on from…same as “skill jumps” when we can have clamber…
it buddy jumps are wanted then create an actual animation for it and make it legit.
I feel like this comment perfectly encapsulates the feeling I’ve had that vague calls for “modernization” have been used by people to simply state their personal preferences as some sort of objective game design standard.
Phasing through players feels infinitely more “dated” than actually exisisting as a phsyical body on the map. Why does buddy jummping have to be made into an official mechanic for it to have legitimacy in your eyes? For that matter, what about it is so detrimental to the gameplay, that it should he “moved on” from? I’d argue it’s an extra opportunity for player expression, and has miniscule if any effect on the integrity of combat, so why advocate for the removal of a gameplay wrinkle you quite literally never have to engage with if you don’t want to, what’s “dated” about more interactability?
I could write a dedicated post about skill jumps and clamber, but they are not exclusive design choices in the slightest. Clamber is different from crouch/skill jumps, mainly in that there is no wrong way to clamber, you hit the clamber button on a short enough ledge, and you clamber. Meanwhile skill/crouch jumps rely on any number of skills, and often a combination of skills, such as omnidirectional movement, momentum, timing, even some sandbox elements like a brute-shot jump or hell, a buddy jump!
G2 be honest, when I hop into MCC and watch people get bunched up in small corridors, corners and doorways, I immediately realize I don’t miss it.
Tho since I’m of the minority opinion I guess I’ll just be glad art design isn’t a majority rule endeavor. Then again, economics is so what will happen next!?
Funny thing about the 90% giving feedback and wanting something changed, but not happening. Here we have 90% of the feedback saying that they want collision to be turned on and then you look to the changes that they are making such as the melee Nerf which they specifically cited The Mangler being reduced by it and the only people really complaining about that were the "Pro"s which is the minority of the feedback.
Ironic that the 10% is beating the 90%. So much for wanting to appease the broader audience.
I’m not on the boat believing that, desynch is bad, but I seriously doubt it’s so incredibly horrible, that I would not have had one single instance where I’ve actually collided with an enemy.
Should be on.
Allies running through allies blocking projectiles is a common occurrence.
Or, you know, rather than removing collision, make a better report system and implement punishments that actually matter. Don’t change gameplay because an extremely small part of the community decides to grief.
Even with friendly fire on in the older Halos, I do not recall getting griefed, playing Solo, as much over my entire Halo carrer, as I’ve had shots blocked, grenades bounced and blown up in my face, threat sensors stuck on clipping allies, etc.
What’s the next step?
Making allies 75% transparent and have them not block any of your shots? All in the name of “combating griefing”?
What I would like to know is where does 343I get this “info” are they polling random people? random players? Halo players? Who?!?!
I can count on one hand how many times I’ve heard someone say “I think player collision should be off” or something along these lines. It’s just like when 343I changed the zoom look to ADS style zooming in Halo 5. Next to no one ever asked for this. The zoom look wasn’t an issue, ever! People weren’t complaining about this.
I absolutely hate player collision being off! I’ve literally seen allies walk threw there teammates to get away.
I wish 343I would stop bloody changing things that no one or next to no one ever asked for.
