The amount of times an enemy has gone through me as he’s one shot only to turn around and melee me is pretty damn infuriating.
I think the player collision should really be turned on, as right now it’s kind of annoying getting self destructed by my own rocket because my teammate walked through me at the last second.
Also, can someone inform me on how to make a poll? I would like to get some community feedback on an idea I have.
Yeah he highlighted layers and scope glare and super low ttk are all lame but nugamers love it
The lack of collision is just weird. Nothing is worse than going in for a melee and just harmlesslly passing through them, and then turning around and you see them awkwardly turning back to you as well.
I would like to know the logic, the reasoning, behind the decision to remove it.
I’ve plaved Halo since H1, I’ve never found the collision of players or enemies to be an issue. I do not understand why they removed it in this game.
It just makes some stuff feel hollow and artificial. I know were playing a video game, but removing collision makes it feel less real, it strips the verisimilitude from the game.
I’m okay with not having player collisions with friends but have collisions with enemies. I get actual physical headaches from being super-focused trying to get a melee kill and then accidentally clipping through the enemy. It disorients me hard. Also, like when two people turn a corner and you get bumped or pass through an enemy with the gravity hammer and lose the kill.
It needs to be on for both, man.
huh, tell me how i go to melee someone and the collision glitches out i run straight through them and they 1 shot melee me isnt a problem that needs to be fixed.
Sooo. 2 cents from me that might be something people haven’t considered.
(A) I voted for collisions to be on, well before playing Beta (never got a flight)
(B) Since Beta’ing, the phasing hasn’t impacted me greatly to the point I started to feel maybe it’s something of nothing, a bit like me never really having a problem with collision being on in previous games. Although I loved custom glitching back in the day. Oh lovely sword butterflying.
but
(C) I stand by my vote due to the fact I feel, with running it round in my head, other peoples experiences and what I might experience in the future that I still want collision on.
BUT I had a thought. Maybe its not that simple…
It got me thinking. Someone mentioned in the forum about minecraft collisions and someone noted they have collision / cant stand on heads. I’ve had that on the Beta (collision on in custom game) and me & friends started pushing, trying to get on heads and it is very, for want of a better word, “janky”. You cannot stand on head. Slide off. We only messed around for 5 minutes on the day of Beta release.
My theory is as follows…
Collision was an oversight in the development of the Slipspace engine thing perhaps?
Most engines don’t cope well with collision at the best of times.
Bungie had it nailed (outside of super jumps in Halo 2) and that wasn’t likely to happen by accident when playing. Most games are notorious on collisions.
As lots have said. …
No-ones asked for a change. It’s never really had a complaint.
My worry is that it was an oversight. They realised at some point that it’s janky as hell and they would need a lot of overhaul engine wise, sooooo lets just remove it. No-one will mind.
I would think or at least hope that 343 are listening to / paying attention to the communites voice on collision, with the votes and other sites and I would hope it’d be something they would therefore happily change IF THEY COULD.
My worry is they know they can do this but they know that people are going to be launched into walls and ceilings and dying. Like there’s something majorly buggy with it and they won’t admit that.
Wondering if anyone here has done any collision testing.
AND
With the jankyness that does exist maybe having it on won’t be that great.
Still, my vote remains collision on. Just some thinkings I had.
I’m not an expert. I’m not a developer. I just have this paranoid theory that it won’t happen due to other factors we don’t yet know about but would hope that if I’m wrong they will just listen to us all and put it on.
Ratty
I know what you mean about choke points. It has happened to me a lot too.
However with the lack of player collision has made it so a lot of my melees miss due to me warping through the enemy.
On occasions my bullets and grenades will be stopped by an ally who is inside of me.
While I know the pain of being blocked by a teammate, I would love to have collision back.
good theory but this would be the worst-case scenario, hopefully it isn’t true
I do remember hearing that there would be an option in custom games to turn collision on so hopefully that means it is just a simple setting
I was originally all for 343’s no player collision but after a couple weeks of play I’ve realised that I do in fact want player collision back.
I’ve changed my viewpoint.
Psst… You can change your vote.
I like that fact that I don’t have player collision with Teammates, however I noticed that there is no player collision with enemies either (unless one of you is meleeing… kinda), which can make it super easy to lose an enemy in the middle of a firefight. I think player collision should be off for teammates, but it should be on for enemy players.
I understand why they want it off for allies (it does prevent some annoying scenarios, though it also creates some new ones and removes buddy jumping which sucks); by for enemies? @343 why not have only enemy collisions? I get punched in the back because someone walked through me and then punched all the time and it’s so frustrating. Plus, all the time I’ll go to punch someone expecting to hit them solid, and then I walk through them and miss. Very annoying; I hope they make collisions on for at least enemies.
I wasn’t aware, but now my vote has been changed.
I was never in favor of the no collision thing to begin with, but I before I tried it, I always thought it would ultimately be harmless. I’ve been realizing, the longer I’ve had to actually play it, however, that it COMPLETELY and UTTERLY ruins melee encounters. Phasing through other players when you’re trying to get that second smack on them for the kill is the most frustrating thing.
Maybe it’s not intended for collision to fail against enemy players, but it does, and I’ve often gotten shwooped through an enemy in the middle of a melee fight a hell of a lot more than once, and even when collision IS working as intended, it still fails. Either your teammates will phase through you interrupting your melee battle and causing you to suddenly hit your teammate’s back instead, OR you will run into enemies who can instakill you by getting a 1, 2 slap from 2 different players just running through eachother.
This no collision thing needs to go.
Edit:
Bonus thought from reading other comments, I’d say the collision for players, in general, needs an update. In addition to comments regarding wonky collision even in controlled settings (which lines up with my experiences in melee combat) I’ve also noticed that splatter registration for vehicles vs infantry can be a little freaky as well. I loaded up a BTB map in customs with a full enemy bot team to try it out, and the warthog splatters seem INCREDIBLY inconsistent, even with top speed direct hits, with splatter damage varying from minor glance shield drain, to full shield pop, to the intended killsplat. The only vehicle that can get consistent splatters is, of course, the chopper, due to its amplified splatter damage.
After some games last night and witnessing it mess other people up in CQC fights on me, I still want it on.
I’ve found that quickly pulling back on a melee feels like it will force away from the phase through a bit / bounce a little but that still doesn’t make it right (my opinion).
Totally hope I’m over thinking that worse case.
Oh yes you can have it turned on right now, it’s in custom games. I just meant as in, maybe they decided to default all game modes for matchmaking without it, due to my theory.
I guess my symptom (flying into walls / ceiling dying) was extreme but even if say collision caused a jankyness in eating up bandwidth and/or causing visual glitches / other things detrimental to gameplay etc
Here’s hoping they do add it in and my wild theory is entirely wrong. Lol
What if the collision had a timer on it for how long you were pushing against some one till the collision was trun off for a bit so you can get by tham?
Absolutely they should have player collision, I’ve played a game where I passed through a team mate to melee an enemy Spartan and I passed right through him as well.
343i need to stop changing the Halo multiplayer, it’s like they’ve added training wheels to the whole experience to suit new players and flipped the bird to long time players.
Huh?
Collision leads to consistency in gameplay.
