What’s the vibe on Dual Wielding, is it an interesting addition to the Weapon Sandbox or is it just too problematic to bring back?
-
Option 1: You don’t want Dual Wielding to return in any way, shape, or form.
-
Option 2: You think Dual Wielding is a cool feature for Campaign (example using Dual M7 SMG’s or Dual Sidekicks as The Chief potentially facing an Elite Boss using Dual Wielding Needlers, Plasma Rifles or an Energy Sword + Plasma Rifle). You also think it should be a feature in Custom Games / Social game modes like Fiesta.
-
Option 3: You think Dual Wielding should be brought back into Multiplayer, but it needs to have more restrictions. This would not necessarily restrict anything in Campaign or Custom Games just Multiplayer. Some examples (all of which may or may not apply):
-
You can only Dual Wield specific weapons, for example SMG class weapons. This prevents everyone from using Dual Sidekicks.
-
You can only Dual Wield specific weapons if they are given that function. Example, a MK50 Sidekick “DW” variant that Spawns on a weapon rack could be Dual Wieldable but the default Sidekick is not.
-
Dual Wieldable weapons could all be “Controlled Spawn” which limits the amount that are available on the map at once (a weapon won’t respawn until all of the ammo has been used or it is lost).
-
Dual Wieldable weapons could be limited to only “In Kind” which means you cannot mix and match.
-
Dual Wieldable weapons could spawn on opposite sides of the map which makes it harder to collect two of the same weapons for Dual Wielding, while some maps may not even have multiple weapon racks to enable Dual Wielding.
- Option 4: You like the classic Dual Wielding system and want it to return to Multiplayer, which means no restrictions however weapons will need to be nerfed to limit Dual Wielding power.
- No, it is too problematic.
- Yes, but only in Campaign / Custom Games.
- Yes, but with restrictions.
- Yes, bring it back just like Halo 2 and Halo 3.

I’m not sure which of your options describe how I want fuel wielding to return. I’ve posted three idea at various times here on the forums over the last couple years.
I want duel wielding to come back as ‘akimbo weapon pickups’.
For example, say you have your AR/Pistol your spawn with and you walk up to a weapon rack holding ‘Dualie SMG’s’. You hold X to swap your AR out, and what you pick up is both SMG’s as one weapon entity.
Essentially I want duel wielding to work like the dual pistols in Counter Strike. You pick them up and drop them as if they were one weapon, but functionally you would be able to fire and reload them as two weapons.

I like this suggestion… I guess it could fall under any “Yes” category depending on how you want it to be done.
Is this only in campaign? Then option 2.
This would be considered a restriction so if in Multiplayer, Option 3. (Edit: I think this is kind’ve like how Restriction 2 under option 3 would work).
Do you want the weapons to be nerfed in order to facilitate Dual Wielding like Halo 2 or 3? Then that would be Option 4.
I don’t care, honestly. It was fun in previous games, but not really viable in multiplayer. If it comes back in a balanced and entertaining way, then I’m game. I don’t miss it though.
I like it in H2-3, but mostly used and amstered in campaign. So I think they should bring to campaign only.

Seems like a pointless conversation IMO, as I can’t imagine dual wielding ever coming back to Halo in Infinite regardless of how fans feel about it. The game’s core foundational sandbox design is already in place, and it doesn’t accommodate dual wielding.
Adding in something so fundamental on the gameplay level as an afterthought or seasonal gimmick just seems inconceivable to me.
Dual wielding isn’t inherently “too problematic” for game balancing, but it would likely be too big of a shakeup to try and implement on top of a fully formed gameplay system that was designed without it. I honestly believe there’s something like a 75% chance that attempting to do something like that would break the game and leave everyone (fans of dual wielding and haters of it) miserable.
The option to selectively bring back DW specifically to PvE modes to avoid the multiplayer balancing issues is interesting, but I can’t conceive of 343 putting all the work into doing that when it’s going to be completely absent from the side of the game that they clearly seem to care more about.
Balancing in the game with dual wielding was a nightmare. So no, that can stay gone.

Maybe only in Fiesta. And you should be able to dual wield any two random weapons. Like Rocket and Sword, or Rocket and Hammer or Rocket and Cinder Shot, like that. Perhaps even Moose and Squirrel.

Dual Wielding as a feature shouldn’t return, but a dual-wielded set of matching weapons would be interesting.
I find dual wielding to be too problematic, and considering some of the balancing problems we have right now concerning the weapons…yeah, it’d be a nightmare in a half to account for dual-wielding them as well.

honestly, for all the good h3 has… i really don’t like duel weilding. not in 2, 3, or h2:a. because it boils down to two types of weapons
the good guns: ar, br, carbine, etc…
and the bad guns that are ONLY good when holding two: smg, spiker, etc…
it makes half the sanxbox bad because the weapons are so weak. thusly making duel weilding almost an punishing game mechanic…
but despite me disliking it in halo… an option for it to be enabled in custom games would be quite cool

I wouldn’t mind seeing it return. But I much preferred its Halo 2 version over Halo 3 with damage balancing.
Because of this, maybe it can come back in some way but to remain balanced in multiplayer only appear in Campaign.
I know it’s not in the same vein, but I sort of compare it to how the Fuel Rod cannon was in campaign for Halo 2 but not multiplayer.
Should 343 attempt something they will likely fail at? Nah, leave it like it is. They have enough to work on.

I’d love for it to return
In campaign sounds good, but in the mulltiplayer… for the love of God, NEVER.
It’s rlly not problematic if you’re able to balance it. SURE if it works alright. In past it wasn’t handled that well.
There’s a couple of ways to do it…I think the better answer is if it’s worth it…
While it would be fun, as enjoyed it in H2,3. Not sure how it would work since clamber, repulser and grapple shot are now in Halo. Or even how it could work when dropping a drop wall for example, as spartans left hand is used for that

No, although I would not describe it as “problematic”. It was mind-blowing back in the day. It sort of just devolved into a gimmick afterwards. I’d prefer if dual wielding never made a return, but I’ll still play Infinite if it does come back.
This is exactly why the akimbo dual wielding I want would work. You don’t have to balance for a bunch of combos and single wielded weapons. You just balanced the akimbo weapon as a single entity.
I find it would be problematic to balance in Matchmaking, BUTit wouldn’t hurt to have it in the Campaign & as an Option for Custom Games
