POLL: OK Lets see who wants the BR in a BTB as a Starting Weapon

I dislike BR starts in Halo 3 and I’m fairly upset you can’t search for AR starts in the MCC for BTB.

Depending on what map you play on you are guaranteed to immediately get shot at the second you walk out into an open space.

you can…but literally nobody plays it

“The games included and game category combination is invalid. Please update the games included and try again”

It’s not possible to search for Auto Slayer on Halo 3 8V8.

I haven’t played MCC in a long time, they must have changed it

You’ve never been able to for as long as it’s been on PC.

A drop pod or two near the start would work.

But no if everyone has them.

Prefer it if being shot by multiple people across the map,
wasn’t part of the typical experience.

Am I just playing a completely different game than everyone else?

yeah it depends on game. If the teams are not balanced properly. I could easily see a whole teams base being camped and and picked off on spawn with BRs.

Do you like halo 2’s hang em high with BR starts? Because if you do like that gametype and map combo then that would explain why you don’t understand people not liking BR starts on big open range maps.

No one wants to play a big team game where no where on the map is safe and you get spawn killed consistently.

I think my bigger complaint would be that the BR just isn’t available enough. which makes it the opposite problem the person with the BR trumps.

Only ppl that do not want BR starts are casuals who like being rewarded with spray & pray random spread, faster TTK and no skill automatics weapons.

That’s nice :+1:

As I said, would prefer the Commando instead.

Commando has several issues right now as a rack weapon for BTB:

  1. Commando spawn ammo is atrocious for its average shot-to-kill
  2. Commando is a “weaker” option than the BR and having it spawn means no BR spawn
  3. Commando is a pretty strong mid ranged weapon with long range potential, but weaker cross mapping

All these can be solved by simply putting the Commando in the hands of the player on spawn, then replacing all Marksman Rifle racks with static BR spawns. This does several things:

  1. Commando as weapon spawn = more Commando ammo on the field when people die or trade it out
  2. Commando is a perfect “baby’s first precision rifle” for lower skilled players, yet very skilled players are awesome with it
  3. BRs as a powerful upgrade from Commando need to be more available, but not so available that everyone has one. In most BTB maps, each team will at least have access to 3-4 BRs on a minute cooldown.

Also, BR? Skilled? Pfft. BR is literally the easiest weapon to use in the sandbox, where all you do is shoot the center mass 4 times for an easy kill.

Variety.

To water down so many opinions to such a shallow explanation, a shame.

You see so little depth I can’t imagine you see anything past the barrel of your precision rifle, I’d be surprised to learn you land any shots at all.

Yes, I do believe you are

Glad to see people agreeing with me on this. The Commando is a perfect middle ground to give people an option to fight back without giving the universally more powerful Battle Rifle to just about everyone.

Going to disagree. Starting commando instead of BR is the mistake you think starting with BR is. Commando is harder to use, giving everyone a commando - elite players will literally just tear through the rest. BR is easier to use, lesser players can at least defend themselves.

That’s already the case with the SK. Noob players can’t use it properly, so they need the AR to compensate. You give them a BR, they will swap to the AR anyway cause they stand even lesser chance against a pro who spawns off the bat with pretty much the best all rounder weapon in the game.

If you force the Commando into their hands however, they at least won’t die from across the map to a veteran using a Commando because the TTK on that weapon is extremely strict, and not even the best players can consistently get an 8 shot headshot perfect from across the map. That’s how bad the Commando is.

On the flipside, vs the SK, the Commando’s full auto will let a newbie at mid range contribute to skirmishes even if they aim rather badly because all they have to do is center mass with the Commando and hold down the auto.

Precision weapons aren’t gonna be good in the hands of a bad player, that’s an indisputable fact, but the least you could do is make sure the enemy veterans or deadshots aren’t spawning with the best gun in the game and just slaughtering newbies. Why do you think there’s a minor pushback against BR starts in Team Slayer?

I will never understand some peoples obsession with BR starts it’s like you all have stockholm syndrome from Halo 3 where you know it harms the weapon sandbox/map balance in a lot of situations but simply don’t care.

I think they have a really good balance of BR/AR Sidekick starts rn and it doesn’t need to change especially in a mode like BTB which would only suffer because of it.

As a long time halo veteran, I’m fairly impressed with the balance 343 struck between the AR, Sidekick, and BR. I feel like this is the first Halo game where I don’t feel completely helpless spawning with an AR.

WOW! So it looks like alot of people seem like to have the Commando Rifle as a starting weapon. If that is true then maybe I will change I will change my setups
in my CTF, Stronghold, and Stockpile game modes.

Right now my setups for those gametypes is: BR w/ 120 Rounds and the Hydra w/ 36 rounds. So maybe I should re-think my setups. Personally I really like the Hydra.

So now maybe I will setup my starting weapons to be the Commando with the Hydra.

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:
