I would say that we need to keep the Bulldog as is.
BUT we need the classic M90 brought back as a high-tier weapon to help counter the Sword. Because as it stands right now - Whoever holds the Sword is automatically the king of close-quarters engagements.
Or a new over-under double barreled shotgun that does insane damage up-close to both spartans and vehicles but nearly nothing beyond 8 meters. It would spawn on a heavy weapon spawn pad, and be considered heavy ordinance.
+Instakill within 2m if all projectiles land. 2 shots between 3 and 4. No effect after 5m.
+Knockback over wide spread. Max force within 3m, fall-off ends at 4.5m.
+Can stop a sword lunge.
-Slow reload.
-one shot in the mag.
-Spawns with 6 shots, capped at 12.
-low range. Falloff ends at 8m.
No.
A double-barrel doesn’t really fit into Halo’s aesthetics.
The classic Halo Reach M90 however, loaded with 6 shells would be wonderful.
Aww come on, look at my revised version? Tell me that doesn’t sound fun as hell.
*BOOM* *Reload 1.2.* *BOOM*
It would compete with the Brute Hammer but there’s no delay on firing, only reloading.
Okay. MAYBE if it was a Banished Brute weapon, I could see it. But not UNSC or Forerunner in design.
That is sort of what I was thinking… Like a step-down from the Skewer, it fires a ton of spikes and has a melee blade.
Thematically the UNSC probably would not have two different shotguns.
I would like the M90 anyway, though. I think it wouldn’t even need any balancing. Maybe a rate of fire tweak to distance itself from the bulldog.
To distance itself from the Bulldog, the classic M90 would need 2 things -
This way, like the sword, it makes you a King of the Close-Quarters, and would work to counter the Energy Sword; with the Energy Sword also countering the M90. Because as it stands right now, the Sword has no legit counter besides the SPNKR; which 9/10 times will result in your own death as well as the death of the swordfighter lunging at you. The Shotgun and the Sword have always had a relationship. The Sword player would win if they ambushed or approached from behind, while trying to sword-lunge from the front usually results in your death as the guy with the boomstick makes you go boom.
And the brute hammer… and the Skewer. Neither of which are as easy to use as the Energy Sword, and are therefore poor counters to it…
That was always the point of the shotgun since Halo 2, to be an effective counterpart to the sword in those situations where you’ve got 0.05 seconds to react or die. Especially since sword-lunging is usually a guaranteed kill without a similar 1-hit zero-delay weapon.
Obviously the sword was always slightly more effective than the shotty since it has the lock-on lunge, and the shotgun could miss. But having the capability to stop it with a same-tier weapon is more important than SOME people give it credit for.
My issue with the Grav Hammer attempting to counter the sword is that you have to be mid-swing as the swordfighter begins to lunge in order to kill them first.
Since the Hammer has such a slow ready-to-fire time when compared to the Sword, it results in you parrying the sword clash and then being vulnerable to the next swing.
But yeah, the M90 is the best counter… that or another Sword, but that doesn’t happen outside Fiesta, Ro Sham Bo, or Gladiator.
Honest question do you just really miss the M90?
Yeah.
The Bulldog is a great mid-tier gun; but compared to the classic shotgun that one-shot people that got too much in-your-face, it is pretty weak sauce.
And quite frankly, with how fast players can move in Halo Infinite with the Thruster and Grapple, it is easy for them to get out of your effective range REALLY easy if the M90 was added. But if you yourself had the Shotgun and the Thruster or Grapple, it could be something that is to be feared, similar to the Sword. However, the sword also has the lunge that gives you distance-closing advantage to boot. Especially given the exploit that has been around since Halo 2 that people are doing again.
Miss it? It’s actually missing from the sandbox.
Is there a ranged weapon that you could call the counterpart to the sword? I can’t name one. Everything else is made for different roles at different ranges.
The Bulldog cannot stop a sword lunge, neither can the Heatwave.
There is a clear role gap between Bulldog and Sword that no other weapon can fill besides the M90 or equivalent.
The gap is intentional.
The gap will be gone once the M90 is back in the sandbox. They are going to be adding weapons back to the game over time. Leaks show that the first to make a comeback will be The Covenant Carbine.
In my game design class we were taught this sort of ability-gap is called “Bad Design”.
Intentional or not, it’s a bad decision. Especially when the sword is so easy to use and everything that can stop it is not.
The people that want it nerfed, for one, have overwhelmingly simply suggested to change its spawn timer, and would certainly be happy to only do this in Ranked settings. And two, suggesting they need to “get good” when they’re literally the best players in the game and you’re holding down a .68 K/D in Plat 1 is comical lol.
Some of you guys need to have more self-awareness when you post this kind of nonsense. These players would steamroll everyone on these forums. They’re suggesting a change to spawn timers because the gun is easily as strong as a Heatwave or Bulldog but is an ever-present factor with 2-3 on the map at all times. They’re suggesting a nerf to the spawn timer because they themselves abuse the gun and it’s cheapening CQC in competitive play. Y’all seriously need to get a grip.
The fire needs to last longer or it needs to do enough damage to kill a spartan. It uses way too much ammo for what it’s worth right now.
So this is relevant again…
I think it should simply be a charge shot rather than fire instantly. That’s how the halo 4 forerunner pistol worker. Seems that may be a similar situation to this one.
