Their Waterloo would assume they’ve been on an unstoppable train of slaughter and doing extremely well. Halo 4 received mixed reviews and likely only sold because it had Halo on it, MCC was released and still is a broken, buggy mess, and now there’s the beta which is seeing some mixed opinions.
It can’t be 343’s Waterloo because they’ve been pretty average thus far. Any credit I gave them for Halo 4 post patch was completely lost with the MCC and Halo 5 is just them trying to cram more things down our throats.

Average is a bit generous all things considered. Halo 4 and 5 are well built but not well designed. MCC is a straight up mess of a collection. Halo 4 sold well but died out quickly. It is only the Halo name and MS advertising keeping things together.

Halo 4 would have been Napoleon’s first abdication and exile on Elba, MCC would have been his much hyped return to France, and Halo 5 would be his final defeat at Waterloo and exile on Saint Helena. I think that’s what the OP is trying to get at.
I think it’d be more accurate to say that if it fails it’d be Halo’s Waterloo, considering the first 3 games were an unstoppable slaughter but Reach was like the failed invasion of Russia. You know what, Halo 4 could have even been Leipzig.
Reach was Midway, Halo 4 Stalingrad, The MCC Kursk and so Halo 5 might be the battle of the Bulge
