Poll: Friend Or Foe System, Player Outlines

I kinda of disagree. I feel like if 343 fixed this it would show that they actually care about player opinions, and bring some trust back to them from the player community.

I believe the reason this was implemented in the first place was to sell skins and the battle pass, why else would this mechanic exist. It’s the first game to have it and it’s the first game with a battle pass.

i honestly don’t mind the player outline system at all. though i wish there was a option to turn on classic RVB colors on the spartans rather than just the outline

I’m fairly certain you only see enemy outlines if they are in your line of sight…

Yes, you’re correct, and they also have limited bandwidth, Fixing the biggest problems right now needs to take precedent so people don’t just jump ship, that would result in them receiving less funding equaling less bandwidth. Then larger issues are even less likely to get fixed anytime soon. It will all happen in time. I think over the years this will end up being one of the best Halo games in the franchise’s lineup

They need top bring back red vs blue.

That will never happen. Creates a huge disadvantage to players without highlight enabled.

I think it makes it a little bit too easy to spot players trying to be sneaky beaky like, but other than that I dont mind it at all. its nice to be able to change the colors. I only wish the outline would go away if I am looking directly at someone, it can make it tough to see others, especially at a distance.

would really depend who you ask. or hay, if 343 is being generous. have it be a 50/50 for a match.
like ya que up for slayer and there’s a 50/50 chance the match players are outlined or solid colors.
i dunno, just spit balling 'ere

Add a “maybe” option. I think its flawed with some benefits and some areas for improvement.

with how important armor paints are for customization, I dont think most would like it if they couldnt show it off in multiplayer. as much as the current system has flaws, im not sure a RVB color scheme would turn out well for a lot of players, self included. it wouldnt be the end of the world, and hell it may even convince 343 to put in more actual armor rather than paints, because why would you buy them or actively go for unlocking them if they dont show up in MP. but I think this system is (probably) the best way forward for now.

That’s some wild wishful thinking if I’ve ever heard any. This game doesn’t have “years” if it doesn’t quickly resolve many core problems, it will continue to bleed players until it’s got the same population as the MCC. Frankly, player outlines ARE one of the dozen or two critical complaints I have with the game. It’s not at the very top, but it’s a much much faster fix than many others, and it would be illogical to not start flipping switches that can be flipped right now in order to slow the leak instead of waiting until the game is basically dead. Oh, and to address the “limited bandwidth” which I assume you mean “they only have so many people to do these things”, nah, this is a UI issue and the UI team can flip a switch and be done, there’s no testing necessary for turning off outlines.

I hate the outlines for aesthetics and visibility reasons. Like some have said, I think removing them completely for enemies and keeping them or making them optional fo teammates is the best course of action.

I said yes but only in concept.
Conceptually it makes sense that Spartan helmets would be able to IFF designate enemies and friendlies. It also allows us to wear whatever color we want without the game forcing us to be red or blue.

The way they did it, I don’t really like that much. It outlines enemies from too far away, and that goes for scope glair as well (scope glair far too noticable, makes sniping annoying without really stopping snipers from doing their job. Get good at quick-scoping and you’ve subverted it entirely)

Ideally the outlines should be more opaque the closer the target is to you, and even then not so bright that they highlight enemies too much. The current system lobotomizes players and lets them practically auto-target anything that’s on screen with some practice. If the outlines were shaded, or were at least non-vibrant in conjunction with bringing back IFF reticles (The crosshair turning red/green/white) then we’d have a pretty competent iteration.

My idea is that we remove the color outline and if we can’t have RvB then treat it like COD, Battlefield, fortnite. Just have enemies have a red arrow with their name above their head with red text. This would eliminate the need for outlines, and still let players see each other’s amor and color schemes.

I also want to note I’m sure it would be an easy mechanic to remove, as it doesn’t exist in the campaign. Except for when using the threat sensor.
