I think the lore might be that we had a translator to hear the aliens speak English, but I can’t remember.
I prefer to see the Covenant speak English because I like it when they say funny stuff (like the Grunts) I miss those days.

Did you watch the ad on YouTube yet. It’s a new mcc ad with a Grunt voiced by Joseph Staten. It’s the halo 4 model Grunt but I still enjoyed it.

Take this with a grain of salt, I could be wrong. From what I remember Cortana translated the Covenant’s words to English for Chief. The shadow group from Halo 4 spoke a different dialect than regular covenant so it couldn’t be translated. I might be wrong on this.
That being said, I like the halo 1-3 english speaking aliens. Added more to the gameplay.
I’m pretty sure the only reason they spoke English in Halo 2 and 3 is becuase there were allies, and you kinda had to be able to understand them.

CE’s grunts would like a word with you. In English.
English speaking should be default. There should also be a skull that lets the covenant speak in gibberish. For those…“immersion” junkies.
I didn’t like it in halo 4 when they did not speak english. But halo 4 alone was still not the worst game in history.
Not sure why people want them to speak their native languages all the time. It doesn’t strengthen the narrative. Nope, just forces players to read.
I’m pretty sure the Arbiter would not be voiced by Keith David, Sesa 'Refum by Miguel Ferrer, and Rtas 'Vadum by Robert Davi, were it not for the English dialogue in Halo 2. It also gave future Halo games much-needed comic relief, in my honest opinion, by doing so. My sentiments on the matter have not changed, even after Reach and Halo 4. I’m willing to argue that nothing of real value was gained by making them speak gibberish instead.
I think there should be a mix of english and their own language. It would make sense for some to speak their own language as well as English. Sure, not a majority of the aliens would know English, but I’d like a good mix of both. There is a certain charm having them speak English that I missed in Halo Reach and 4, especially Grunts.

Grunts should maybe speak their own language but maybe yell out, ‘please don’t kill me in English or other languages.’.
