They’ve been around since olden days of gaming. One of my favorite games to this day, Galaga, had points, and I really hope Halo has points.
They don’t even have to MEAN anything! Just points that jump out after I’ve gunned someone down in Spartan Ops (which, may I say, looks like DA -Yoink!-’ BOMB).
It’s just satisfying to take someone out and get a few points, and end the game with this mass of points, and point to the points, and say “yeah, I did that.”
Fair enough if the points tie into the ranking system, like in Halo: Reach, or if they directly influence other facets of the game, or they make up the actual SCORE, but I just want to see some random, arbitrary points.
Maybe a third party list of all my highest scoring games, that incorporates game modes from everything, matchmaking and campaign included, just so I can reminisce on how badass I am.

I don’t mind points or scoring of different forms, but i absolutely do not want points awarded on screen in a COD fashion.

“Sir, if you’ll just look here on todays carnage report…Spartan 108 killed 42 enemies, while Spartan 236 killed 56!”
“Great googly-moogly! Reward these outstanding Super Soldiers with SPARTAN POINTS!”
I like that many games have changed assists and the value of an assist, so it reflect the damage done. If I do 90% of the damage but someone gets a random lucky HS in Halo, they get 75% of the “reward” if not more. In Homefront, Gears, and many other games, you get what you deal aka if someone steals a kill they get the kill, but very few points.
Sure, you got to get over a threshold (no 1 point assists) but the system is fair, unlike the current.
OnT:
I sure love points too, it’s fun to be rewarded for doing something good, and it encourages you to keep doing good stuff in game
I like this idea, like A LOT,points based on damage dealt would be awesome. Also I would love to be able to be rewarded based style or difficulty of a kill, like steering people towards exploring certain play styles to unlock certain things, like different slots for driver, gunner, grenadier, rifleman, sniper, heavy weapons, explosives and so on.
