This isn’t a thread complaining about not having a 1-50 ranking system in Halo 4. I’m simply tired of hearing the “pointless” arguement. To my understanding a lot of people don’t know what the actual meaning of pointless is.
Halo 2’s ranking system was (in my opinion of course) one of the best ones to date. Yes it had plenty of flaws but still.
The Halo 3’s ranking system wasn’t as successful as the previous one because it was way to easy to obtain a 50 but it still had some meaning to it.
A lot of people complained about the system which is fine, it’s their opinion of course but to say that it was a pointless number next to your name is ridiculous.
A high level in halo 2 or a level 50 in Halo 3 MEANT one of 2 things. Either you cheated to get to that number or you were pretty good at the game.
The current progression system in Halo 4 tells you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. It doesn’t indicate anything about a player. Yeah maybe NOW if you see a level 130 it tells you he/she played a lot but a couple months from now it won’t anymore. This number is the definition of being POINTLESS.
That’s just it. It doesn’t need to tell me anything. If there is a system running in the background that matches me with people of similar skill so that I can have a fun game where I’m not completely obliterated and I don’t completely obliterate others… then I’m fine with that.
That it what I want, and I don’t need some artificial epeen rank to lord about over other peoples heads in order to gain some feeling of superiority.
Any time you start adding visible ranks to things, no matter what they are a measurement of, people start acting like -Yoinks!-. Even here, on this forum with the Recruit - Iron, Marine - Bronze, ODST - Tapioca, people are disputing things people say with comments like “what would an iron recruit know?”

If you want to measure your -Yoink!- in the privacy of your own home, then more power to you. Just stop demanding that 343i hold your willy for you and take notes about its circumference .

I understand you point but with your logic we should then get rid of Kills, assists, about everything you can measure yourself with others because they WILL find things to measure themselves with and abuse the game. So we don’t have people talking about their high ranks anymore (who did anyways lol) now it’s all about K/D ratios and playing objective games to farm kills ruining the experience of many many other players. Back then you might have had to deal with people bragging about heir ranks (which if you sucked it up really wasn’t a big deal at all. It’s part of life) Now you have to deal with your opponents purposely letting the time run out in CTF, KotH, ODDball etc just to keep killing you and boosting their KD ratios which causes breaking the initial way the game was supposed to be played.
Now you tell me, what’s better? A person joining your lobby with a high SKILL rank talking about how great he is and you being able to give him the shape of Italy? Or you trying to play and enjoy the game but people taking abuse trying to boost their KD ratios and the only real gametype you can play properly is Slayer?
