I’ve written these poems for fun, so I wanted to share them here. Unfortunately, I had to strike a balance between referencing minute details of the Halo universe (such as specific names or places, etc) and attaining a certain degree of generic feeling so the person unaware of the universe could enjoy the poem too. Personally, I don’t think that these poems are especially good (and I don’t believe them to be my best poems either), but here’s to hoping that I’m being a bit over critical.
Children of War
A poem I wrote after beating Halo Reach on legendary and finishing the Kilo Five Trilogy as homage to the Spartan’s and their sacrifices. Also inspired in part by the poems from Halo: Evolutions.
Zealots of the Prophets
Written as a companion piece to Children of War.
Primordial
I was given the theme of villains to work with for Art Club, and was allowed to write a poem or two. As I had recently rediscovered the existence of the Gravemind’s hidden speeches and read some of his cutscenes dialogue, I decided that his manner of speech and his villainy would make him an excellent topic for a poem (the other poem I wrote was about Lancelot). Again, I had to strike a balance between heavy handed references and something that an outsider could enjoy.
Haven
I don’t remeber entirely what made me decide to write this; it was either Contact Harvest or Halo Mythos, finally getting CEA, remembering the ODST campaign, following Halo: Ground Command, or all four at once. I initially choose the name Haven, then changed it to Harvest, and then back to Haven, and this was because I wanted to include the line: Not the first, nor the last. So Haven stuck as the name of some Outer Planet glassed in the early years of the war.
Hope you all enjoy these poems.
