I’ve not been able to send PMs to any other users for the past few days. I compose them, hit the post button, the screen refreshes, and the message is not in my “sent” folder. What’s goin on?
The Web Team thought it would be a brilliant idea to change everybody’s PM settings about 24 hours ago so users could only receive PMs from Buddies.

Change your PM settings from Buddies only to Everyone, and I advise you tell everyone else too as well, there is no notification about the user having his PMs set to buddies only either.
There was a topic last night that announced this, but it was in one of the unpopular sections and received less than 100 views.
If you want to PM someone, you’ll have to send them a buddy request first.
It sucks, but it is all you can do.

Someone posted this in the Halo 4 forum. But it’s great to get told about this. Why would they change the setting and not say anything. I cannot think of a logical reason why.

Either this or that other thread needs a sticky in all the forums. I use the PM feature very rarely, probably the same for a lot of people but it’s still worth knowing.

I use it quite often, I’ve just had to reply to a PM through Xbox LIVE due to this change.
