Plz deal with the gio filtering cheaters

Also you can’t see other players pings anyway (well you can’t on Xbox).

They would have to be in your actual pre-game lobby as part of your team for someone with geo filter to affect which server you are connecting to. If that’s the case, then simple logic dictates that at least one of your team would connect to a high ping server regardless of geo filter on the simple basis of geography (just have a little think about where your team mates are based and the server locations if you don’t understand).

Exactly. Finally someone who understands about simple geography of players, server locations and how geo filtering works. It’s not rocket science but some on here seem to think it’s a massive conspiracy, cheating or game manipulation when the answer is simply in the location of the players they are playing with…even technology can’t bend the exact science of distance between points A, B and C!

So where’s your proof? High ping games have been a common occurrence since day 1 well before geo-filtering was even acknowledged.

Players really have to stop taking the hypochondriac approach to certain issues or situations in this game.

Short of asking the players yourself, you’re absolutely correct. There’s literally no proof outside of an admission that other players are using geo-filtering.

Geo filter is not cheating
It’s self-defense

You don’t know what you’re talking about. Literally ran with 3 people in open and our teammate from new Zealand said he was geo filtering and that he is sorry.

I do know what I’m talking about because once again:

In this case, the individual admitted he was using geo-filtering, which means you have some probable cause to assume the latency was due to region locking. However, one situation doesn’t mean all high ping games are a result of geo-filtering.

However, it sounds like you prestacked with this player, and teaming up with a player in a different server region in general is going to result in high ping for at least one player in your party regardless of geo-filtering.

It’s also kinda contradictory to blame this when you’re willingly teaming up with someone who is using a tool that will result in an unfavorable high ping situation, assuming this was the case.

I didn’t prestack with him as I said I was running with 3 and he was the solo.

and the system should never place someone in a lobby with that high of a ping because the advantage it gives the other team is too large. They need the option to que specific servers like they did previous, it’s not difficult.

This makes literally no sense. Geo-filtering blocks network connections based on geographic location – information it gets based on IP addresses.

Example: If I live in Washington state and you live in New York City and I have geo-filtering on with a range set to 1000 miles you will absolutely never connect to me. As I am blocking your ability to connect to me. Meaning only people within that 1000 mile radius can connect to me. In which they would be people who should always been connecting to my local server anyway.

Geo-filtering is not someone forcing you to play on their server. High ping has absolutely nothing to do with it. If you’re in a game with 150+ ping then the game is just trying to find an open server to lower match making search times.

Obviously this game should have launched with a region selector and servers should prioritize your local server first anyway.

Didn’t they suspend a player on Sentinels for doing this? Surely there’s a way to prove it.

I’m not sure how that situation unfolded, but I’m sure 343 could identify players using geo-filtering functions.

I’m saying that players like you and me cannot prove it short of a admission.

No. How about OP learns to spell, post coherently and actually educates himself on the subject before accusing people of cheating or manipulating the game. Whilst we’re at it, why don’t you post something constructive on topic instead of posting offensive comments.

This was a completely different scenario to general matchmaking. For a start, there are specific rules in HCS about hosting so that player broke those rules by using a Geo Filter to force a local server to him and/or his team mates. Secondly, it’s a competitive settings custom game so using Geo Filter forced all players to connect to that specific server location. What needs to be mentioned and understood though is that there will always be on team with a ping advantage if they are literally thousands of miles apart regardless of whether someone is using Geo Filter…however in this instance, that player broke the rules by trying to enforce he/his team mates had the ping advantage in every game.

What I want to know is, what the hell happened??

Like this game ran pretty smooth for the first like 3-4 weeks. Then out of nowhere it’s like the servers caught on fire.

Normally I’d say influx of Christmas players, but the game is free… so it’s not like a bunch of people suddenly got it on the 25th.

It was stated that they investigated his game and connection history, and confirmed that they found that data and evidence to prove that this player was manipulating connection to host server. Again this is against the HCS competition rules where all things (including host dedicated servers) are supposed to be balanced as best they can be so the playing field is fair.

I don’t have any evidence but it seemed to coincide with the launch of campaign. As we all know, the game doesn’t track campaign progress offline so all players need to be connected to servers, so may be this has overloaded the servers. In addition, there hasn’t been any server maintenance as far as I’m aware…and this is pretty common place in all games. Basically the servers and net code aren’t fit for purpose, and need urgent attention and/or maintenance.

The game never worked particularly amazingly, but for the “beta” period it was excusable. Crashes, bugs, glitches, server instability were all hot topic issues then as they are now.

The major BTB issues we’re still facing were a result of something to do with the playlist update.

Lol. I’ll post what I want.
