Are people not sick to death of these giant gaps between 343 halo games?! The gap between halo 4 and 5 also resulting in characters appearing from out of nowhere with no back story…
Gap between halo 5 and 6… most of the cast killed off (off screen) big battles taken place (off screen) major characters missing (also killed off offscreen)
Feels like 343 are just lazy when it comes to diving deeper into story and characters in there games they always miss loads out… Atriox missing from mijority of infinite pretty much all the supporting cast members from halo 4 and 5 missing with no mention or footage of them in halo infinite…
Forerunners totally missing from the game after 4 and 5 story was heavily set around them…
Feel like they just took the easy option out after the mess of halo 5 amd decided to just ditch everything from 4 and 5 completely cause they messed up and yet hear they are again in halo infinite bringing in another new enemy and species (the endless) in halo infinite when they couldnt even keep up with there forunner story ark and complete that!
This is a very personal opinion and should be taken as it:
That worked pretty well for me, because I am no big fan of Halo 4 and 5. A friend of mine asked me what the hell was up with the didact and this and that and where did that person go.
I was like, who?, what? Gotta be honest, that may sound boomer as duck, but Halo 4 and 5 just don’t exist in my memories. What little is left I try to push down further.
See i liked halom4 story then 5 came along amd well we all feel the same about that but yeah i think didact should have been kept around longer and we should have had him asain villain in halo 5 and put him down in a boss fight making cortana come back from the grave as the main villain was a big mistake and i get they backed themselves into a corner after halo 5 and had to then resolve her story but damn it just felt rushed in infinte
I thought the story was great. These are the issues I have with it though off the top of my head:
I agree what happened between 5 and 6 is too vague.
I agree there is an absence of characters but at the same time I see why they didn’t have them there for this part of the story and think it was the right call. Also it’s basically 100% certainty the characters that need to return, will, especially Arbiter.
No Flood. They should’ve returned. They really need to return. But again I echo the same reasoning in the point above.
I’m actually very keen to see what happens next in the story tbh. All in all the story is in a much healthier place than it was imo. Certainly better than 4 and 5 which I despise.
Yeah i wasnt a fan of fire team osirus and i didnt like how blue team randomly appeared in halo 5 like they had been there the whole time… i understand in the books (again having to depend on content outside of the games) that blue team survived reach and john trianed with them etc… but to have no metion of them or see them in amy previous halo games then bang! There just there in halo 5 was probably confusing to alot of people! Who are these? How did they survive reach? If they were around this whole time why didnt they help chief save earth in halo 2 and 3?! Stuff like that annoys me then yeah halo infinite its like 343 realised they were getting out of hamd with all these new characters and wanted to start fresh after backlash of halo 4 and 5 so said lets take the easy option kill them all off dont bother wasting time showing or explaining it just ditch all those characters and start fresh… but you cant just do that! These were all in the story leading up to halo infinite! They werent well liked but atleast give the fans closure and show.us what happened to them!
I’m sure there’s much more to come including closure. I think our boy Joe just decided to refocus things and lay a foundation to address everything else. We shall see.
The problem with 343’s writing is that Halo is now like Star Wars.
It skips forward a few years and has very few ties to the movie before it.
Episode 1 - Anakin is a kid
Episode 2 - He is a young adult or late teen
Episode 3 - He is now barely in his mid-twenties.
Episode 4 - Luke is a young man
Episode 5 - Luke is now one of the best heroes of the rebellion and jedi training begins
Episode 6 - Luke is now shy of a Jedi Master
Episode 7 - Rey is a Mary Sue
Episode 8 - Ray is a Mary Sue but now with Luke’s training
Episode 9 - Palpatine is back somehow?
At least Episode 7 and 8 led right into each other.
But now like Star Wars, there are DOZENS of books and extra lore that helps enhance the stories.
Only 343 now makes it a requirement that to get full context on what is happening, you need to read the books in order to fully be satisfied by the narrative.
Halo CE made a reference to Reach ONCE and that was it. All we needed to know is “we left a planet that was under attack because it was lost and we needed to bug out. We found this thing and we must make our stand on this hula-hoop.”
Halo 2 had Johnson say his survival was “classified” and left it at that. It was up to you to read Halo First Strike to see why Johnson is back.
Halo 4 however requries that you read :
Halo Cryptum
Halo Primordium
Halo Silentium
Halo Glasslands
Halo The Thursday War
Just to understand The Didact and Jul 'Mdama.
Halo 4 to Halo 5, you had to read/watch/listen to :
Halo New Blood
Halo Escalation
Halo Fall of Reach movie
Halo Nightfall movie
Halo Hunters in the Dark
Halo Last Light
Halo Hunt the Truth
And even THEN most of it ended up to be lies because Brian Reed rewrote the script of Halo 5 in the latter half of development, and the Marketing Team was already settled on Hunt The Truth’s contents and the commercials of Hunter/Hunted + Bullet to set up the hype for an epic story… only for us to get over-glorified fan-fiction.
Ah, so not only do you too hate Reach’s armour lock but also Halo 4 and 5 and the abysmal Disney Star Wars movies. RambiBambiBambo I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
I can see how that is frustrating for the casual fan who only plays the games… I like that there is so much out of game lore for the series. It makes Halo more than just a game. You don’t even have to read the entire books and stuff between games. Unfortunately I don’t have time to read entire books but you can read about what the books basically cover pretty quickly with a little research. But yeah a downside to even having so much lore out there that it all doesn’t quite fit together perfectly all the time. The series has passed through many hands so there will bound to be plot holes.
See thing is: the books don’t give you any of this information. Of the four Halo Books they did post Halo 5. Bad Blood, Divine Wind , Onyx and Shadows of Reach. You might think that we learnt a lot about the Created and the Banished that would flesh out the gap between both games.
No. These books don’t tell you anything.
They don’t tell you the primary motivation for the Banished assault on humanity. The Destruction of Doisac. The Banished are just kind of there. In one book they’re even shown fighting a Covenant faction who want to fire the Halo rings when that’s literally exactly what they want to do in Infinite. It makes no sense. If it turns out Atriox is just a pawn of Offensive Bias and the Endless there is nothing suggesting this.
They don’t provide any and I mean any, information regarding the Created and what Cortanas doing in terms of ruling the Galaxy. It never advances past what we see in Halo 5 with the immediate assault and doesn’t provide any details in terms of organisation, goals, progress of the war, how the UNSC intends to fight the war. Even very important things like, what’s happening on Earth, is totally absent from the thoughts of our characters.
Bad Blood tells us the Guardians killed a lot of people when they rose up. Basically it’s an epilogue to Halo 5.
Divine Wind is a continuation of Halo Wars but it’s really an unrelated side story involving characters the author has been following.
Onyx is really a side story set on the Shield World which again is really set at the end of Halo 5 so doesn’t tell you anything you don’t already know.
Shadows of Reach is just them killing “Banished” because reasons and arguing with settlers. They then do a cliffhanger concerning the Weapon which is relayed to you anyway at the start of Infinite. I mean, they actually have it be a thing where talking about Cortana “draws her attention” as an excuse for why they aren’t discussing it more.
Basically the Halo books are really more side stories and aren’t primarily about expanding the canon or story. But yeah I do not have a clue what is going on with wider galaxy in Halo Infinite. No information is provided beyond Atriox statement during the vision.
I mean infinite did explain some things and reference some book except the (space station) even events after Master Chief gets beat by Atriox and why Zeta Halo looks all blown up but ya they just kept us in the Dark but at least it’s like a soft reboot where things “might” get better
Nope. Listen to the Audio Logs that are given with every reclaimed FOB.
Yeah, not a fan of this one. But it’s nothing new, really.
Yeah, I blame the fans for this one. I think 343 should have put their foot down a lot harder, rather than constantly bending to these people that just crap on everything.
Halo 5 was a mess to be honest. Can’t blame 343 for ditching it. I like to pretend it did not exist at all, but that still leaves a gap between 4 and Infinite.
