The game hasn’t even been released yet and I can already think of one plot hole, in the story line, that just jumps out at me.
343 has stated that ‘Halo Wars 2’ would be the continuation of ‘Halo Wars’, in which we find the surviving crew of the ‘Spirit of Fire’ floating adrift in space, only to awaken above the Ark 28 years after the events of ‘Halo Wars’. Last I remember, the original game ended with the ship floating somewhere in space within the Milk Way galaxy and from the events of Halo 3, we also know that the Ark is way beyond that (2^18 light years from the galactic center).
I don’t think 343 understands how space works. You don’t just float for 28 years and end up outside of the galaxy like that. Even with slip space travel, it takes months to travel through the “far” portions WITHIN the Milky Way, as explained in some of the Halo novels. I don’t want to make it sound so negative, but the story developers are usually good at putting the science within the fiction, to bring some sort of understanding; otherwise, they’d be contradicting their own science fiction.
What does everyone think? Is it a big deal or something everyone can brush off? Or, did I miss something? Was there something in a novel/comic that would help explain this?

That helps, then. Guess we just have to wait until the game is released and the story is laid out. Thanks m8.
how they got to the ark…easy… they hitch an ride on an Guardian when they were slip spacing… through the cosmos…lol… Atriox came to the ark to found an way to deal with forerunner peacekeepers… along with mining resources…an something else… lol… theory…

Trailers don’t spoil the story. I don’t know where you came up with the notion that they do.

Some trailers have been known to show a little too much

They introduce the story. That doesn’t mean it spoils the outcome. You could bring in other examples, but the HW 2 trailers haven’t given anything away.

Especially knowing 343I, 90% of what is shown in the trailer probably won’t even be in the game.

I doubt that. Unless you’re being hyperbolic, I don’t see how that could be true.

Do you remember the Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Reach trailers? And for Halo wars 2 the trailers appear to be taking clips from the cutscenes of the first five campaign missions.

The portal just decreases the time to travel to the ark, you can still get there is you have the supplies.

That doesn’t make sense. Its a trailer, pretty sure it doesn’t spoil anything. He wouldn’t be asking the question if he didn’t want the info.

Yeah I kinda tend to agree with this whole concept. Stuff is really far away… The same type of thing annoys me from the Mass Effect games. ME1 you shut off a “portal” that prevents the bad guys from being able to show up in the galaxy yet they just turn on their boosters and get there in 2 years…
Maybe the banished took Earth and have enslaved humanity and this is a sequel to planet of the apes?
Everyone here ought to read “Hunters in the Dark.” It explains how travel time to the Ark can be expedited. I’m sure there’s an explanation in-game for the swift travel time, that has also been established in previous canon, aka Hunters in the Dark.
Also, @Hot Juicy Pie, the trailers are taken straight from the cutscenes. Halo 5’s deceptive marketing was, as I recall, entirely live-action. Halo Wars 2’s latest trailers, which are live-action, have nothing to do with the plot and are just for fun, which I hope is inherently obvious to everyone.
