Pleasing Casual, Competitive And Classic Fans

By allowing weapon properties to be changed such as damage, accuracy and fire-rate, across the board and for individual weapons, in custom games.

  • Casual players could use this to create wacky settings and even more interesting mini-games. - Competitive players could use this to tweak the balance of weapons. - Classic fans could use this to emulate the weapon sandbox from previous games.
In the custom game menu you got the options to change Map, Game Mode, Game Mode Options and so on. To allow people to change weapon properties, it would also include:

  • Weapon Properties (similar the Map and Game Mode menu, where you can select different weapon properties that have already been created) - Weapon Property Options (similar to the Game Mode Options menu where you can modify the weapon properties)They would be separate from the game mode, so that you can mix and match without having to create a lot of different game modes.

In the Customs Browser there would be the option to filter out any custom games that are using custom weapon properties. This would encourage people to host custom games with the default weapon properties, which would ensure that there will always be custom games for those that just want to play with the default weapon properties.

This might sound super complex to implement, but the fact is that most, if not all of those properties are already built into the game, so that the game knows how each weapon should behave. And they can actually be changed through the weapon pad glitch, by mixing weapon properties from two different weapons.

Here are some weapon properties that could be included:

Direct Hit:

  • Damage Health - Damage Shield - Knock BackShock Blast:

  • Radius - Damage Health - Damage Shield - Knock BackFire-rate:

  • Initial - End - Change Rate - Projectile SpeedHandling:

  • Range - Recoil - Spread Min - Spread Max - Spread Rate - Bullet MagnetismCharging Ability:

  • Damage Health - Damage Shield - Charge Time - Auto Fire DelayHoming Ability:

  • Homing Strength - Lock-on Range - Lock-on Delay - Lock-on DurationZoom:

  • Magnification - SpeedAmmo:

  • Max Ammo | Battery Life - Magazine Capacity - Reload SpeedOverheating:

  • Rate - Cool-down TimeEach property could be changed from 0%/Disabled to 500%.

Those could be found in the Weapon Property Options, under Global Properties. The Global Properties would let you change all weapons across the board. So you could for example make all weapons have no bullet magnetism, slow-motion projectiles or make any explosive weapon/gravity hammer have increased shock blast radius and knock back.

In the Weapon Property Options, there would also be a menu for Individual Properties, where it would list all the weapons in the game. Once a weapon have been selected you would be given these menu options:

  • Weapon Properties (change individual properties for the selected weapon, only including properties relevant to the weapon) - Smart-Link Modifiers (change the modifiers when using smart-link, only including properties relevant to the weapon) - Player Trait Modifiers (change the player traits when the weapon is used)For each property, you would get an additional Modifier property where you could choose between:

  • Multiply (multiply the individual property value with the global property value) - Override (use the individual property value and ignore the global property value)The individual weapon properties would allow you to tweak specific weapons, such as nerfing automatics.

The Smart-Link Modifiers would allow you to change any bonuses that weapons get from smart-linking, such as the damage increase for the Light Rifle, or the increased lock-on range for the Plasma Pistol.

Player Trait Modifiers would allow you to make some weapons give you invisibility, like the Prophets’ Bane, or change the player speed and jump height based on how heavy the weapons appear.

Great idea.I doubt this is something that could be safely embedded in H5 - particularly what it could break if implemented.
I think this would be a great feature for Halo 6.

Instead of this, we should ask something else:

Why are we all forced to play the same settings in the first place?

Yeah, at this point I’m not expecting anything major to be implemented in to Halo 5, but it’s something they could do in Halo 6.

Do you mean mean why there isn’t a class system?

This idea is honestly my biggest request for custom games. No one loses on this deal.

No. For some reason, 343 thinks casual / comp players should have to play the same settings

When you look at it, the “casual” and “competitive” labels are misleading, especially how they’re used today.

It’s a mind set, not a preference list.
Casuals can very much like game settings Competitive players like. As well as the other way around.

Exactly. A lot of suggestion I have seen boils down to catering to one side or doing compromises, but I don’t think anyone would mind this.

Yeah, they could spend time bringing back one weapon, that some people might not even care about it. Or build a feature that builds on top of all the existing weapons, and any weapons they are going to add in the feature, while also pleasing all groups in the community.

I guess it’s about streamlining the experience.
