Pleased with Halo 4 Maps?

I thought I’d start a topic like this because I have a few opinions that I’d like too see if anyone shared with me.

The maps in Halo 4 although are graphically great and are obviously designed well feel to me to be so damn clustered. Compared to let’s say Halo 3 because Reach… well let’s not go there. Halo 3’s maps were in my opinions, cleaner, more open and spaced and maybe you could even say more simple. Maybe you could argue this is a bad thing but take Exiled from Halo 4 and just holy -Yoink- I’ve played like 5 games on it and it’s a -Yoink- of random crap with some random caves and stuff around the side. To add in there’s banshees in a 10 meter wide narrow -Yoink- map of which you can’t fly over the canyons/hills without going out of boundaries. I’m confused.

The only thing I’ve been playing is Big Team Slayer is because the Valhalla remake (forgot the name) is one of the only maps I can stand playing right now. This is with exceptions such as Haven which is a really clean and beautiful map. I hope they bring back old favorites from Halo 3. The Pit, Sand Trap/Box, etc.

Maybe I’m just exhausted form playing lol I’m interested in opinions.

I’ve enjoyed them all so far…

Sand Trap was a terrible map btw.

tbh I’m surprised I ended up liking as many of the maps as I did. The only map I really have a problem with is Complex

I hate Solace and Abandon…

Mainly because I run into campers or try hard quad teamers.

I should have said it’s more opinionated. Sand Trap was enjoyable to me because it was just refreshing to grab a sniper and just -Yoink- around on the dunes or on the mongooses. Also one thing I forgot to add is, is the Halo 3 amazingly fun time going to come back in Halo 4 with this small range of small -Yoink- maps.

Amazingly fun custom games time* (sorry, I’m exhausted)

Lets just say that the core halo 4 maps are the worst group of maps ever launched with a halo game. They are truly abysmal and i cant even imagine how they made it through testing

> Sand Trap was a terrible map btw.

Whoa whoa whoa, “Sand Trap was a terrible map”?
Have you never played custom games on it in Halo 3? Like convoy?

As usual for me with all Halo games I just play team slayer or in this case Infinty Slayer and my problem is that there seems to be only 4 maps to choose from. I want more variety. It also seems like there’s a ton of stuff on the maps like trees and ramps and what not. Make more maps like Narrows, Foundation, or the best map in the Halo universe The Pit.

I love 2-3 maps, the rest i dont really have an opinion on, they dont suck and on a whole its much better than reach launch maps… but for infinity slayer more smaller maps would be excellent.

They exceed my expectations.

Unlike Reach, maps finally feel like “maps” again. Like arenas. They also feel more “alive” than anything H3 or Reach gave us. Action takes place all over the maps, the chokepoints are great. You’re seldomly f-d as a team because of uneven mapdesign.

In other words: I get that feeling H2 evoked again. Simple but quality maps. I mean, Exile, Haven, Solace and Adrift…just wow. Those are on the same level as some of the H2 maps.

Only one I don’t like so far is Abandon. It just doesn’t work well for anything except Flood in my eyes. That’s literally the only map that is too asymetrical for its own good.

Also haven’t played on Vortex (?) so far, but that one looks really unappealing as well.

Agreed on smaller maps. Complex is far to big to have 4v4.

I think the maps play greatly. I liked all the maps I’ve played on so far (didn’t have the time to play on all maps  )

I am enjoying Complex and Haven a lot.

They’re definitely much better than Reach’s. However, we do need more smaller maps. 4 is not enough. (Complex is too big). I hope we get some Forge maps soon.

I totally agree, if there aren’t forge maps such as foundry and sandbox REALLY soon as well as a -Yoink- load more of custom game customisation options I’ll be trading in this game within 3 months.

They’re better than Reach’s maps, but Reach’s maps were awful. Generally I dislike them though.

The BTB maps aren’t remotely open enough for any decent vehicle gameplay, with the slight exception of the valhalla remake, which is all anyone players in BTB anyway.

The rest of the maps are all too big for 4v4 gameplay, even Haven. Map control is redundant and games literally devolve into a case of spending the majority of the time sprinting around the map looking for people.

The lead map designer for H4 was really not suited for the job.

Only map I do not like much is Adrift. So yes, I’m very please! xD

Meltdown and Haven are my personal favorites.

it was fun in customs yes but he means in matchmaking

where it was a almost strict vehicle map making for poor on foot gameplay, Have
you ever tried to win a game when all your vehicles have been snatched by the enemy and your forced into hiding, hard, that’s all I will say, but not impossible.

I enjoy playing competitively. I like fast paced balanced matches and honestly there are almost no maps that promote this style of gameplay. Haven is good but not great and the only other one that plays well for any type of competitive play is Adrift. The other ones just aren’t great.

Relay looks like it could be fun I just wish they would put it in MM. Overall I am not thrilled with the maps.

I just wonder as a developer if you look at the history of the game, which maps have always been the fan favorites? They have been small to medium maps that are usually symmetrical(although there are some good asyms) and not overly cluttered.

examples:
1)Midship/Heretic
2)Warlock/Wizard
3)Narrows
4)Pit (not a fav of mine but its better than these)
5)Lockout
6)Construct
7)Guardian
8)Battle Creek/Beaver Creek
9) Sanctuary

But yet in Reach and now H4 it seems like the maps are cluttered for the sake of clutter. Not because it plays well but because it looks pretty. They need to get over that and stop with all this unnecessary clutter. Functionality > aesthetics

Just too bare… always played the same.
