Originally, there was friendly fire on and betrayal booting on. This led to a glitch in which a Spartan would kill a zombie at the exact moment the zombie killed him, counting it as a betrayal. The person, who had done nothing wrong except for shooting a millisecond too late, could then be booted and often was booted.
Then Bungie turned off betrayal booting, so that the victim could still be a part of the game despite any glitchiness that may have occurred. This, as most of us have probably experienced, gave rise to people who would kill their own teammates either because they believed that the teammates would leech off precious points, or simply to be -Yoinks!-. Often, a betrayed person never did anything wrong except go to a popular camping spot (Tower on Pinnacle, Red lift on Sword Base, etc) where one or more such -Yoinks!- would happen to reside. Once betrayed the victim would inevitably be unable to get to any safe area, and would as a result be infected.
The solution to this should very clearly be to turn off friendly fire, at least in the Living Dead playlist. With BB and FF both off, two of the most annoying issues in Infection will finally be fixed.
Also, my apologies if this has already been decided as a change for an update I haven’t noticed yet. I’ve just recently begun coming to the 343i page and haven’t seen any updates other than the TU.
I say wait until the Title Update to see if this needs to happen, 343i mentioned bugs that were getting fixed but never mentioned the names of any of them, we will most likely see the return of Betrayal Booting if the bug is fixed in the TU.
I might be wrong about that, but don’t you turn into a zombie regardless of how you died? I know I turned into a zombie more than once because I fell to my death on Pinnacle. So wouldn’t betraying also result in that human turning into a zombie?
I completely agree with this, either turn it off completely or turn betrayal booting back on, I was in a party playing alpha zombies on sword base, hiding out in the red lift, and there were at least 3 players who kept betraying people, including me, for no reason. I had to endure this for 10 minutes, not a long time but it seemed like it, and when the game finally ended I left that lobby. I understand that sometimes it happens on accident, when you’re that close together with shotguns someones gonna miss, but I can tell when its done on purpose. And it would be nice to be able to boot the person responsible for being a major pain in my armor.
