Please tell me I can change Smart Link

Love that Halo brought left trigger-looking down scope element to the gameplay.

At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it when I saw footage, but after playing it I love it.

EXCEPT FOR…I absolutely despise how you get forced out of that view if you get hit. So many easy kills were ruined by this.

Please tell me there is a way to turn this off and I haven’t found it yet!

no you can’t turn off game balance

this

Being De-scoped/ADS’d? Nope, so long as you use Smart Link whenever you get hit you’ll be taken out of it.
To turn off Smart Link, just map it to a button you almost never use.

Sometimes it’s just better to learn how to shoot without scoping at all since it can be disorientating when you get descoped.

I’d take descoping over flinch ANY day…descoping has to be in the game.

Halo doesn’t require you to scope to get a kill anyway.

What do you mean by flinch? And why does descoping HAVE to be in the game? Other FPS games don’t have it and nobody seems to care.

This guy.

I notice Halo fans obsess over “Game Balance”

But if everyone didn’t have to descope, would it not be balanced?

This was my confusion over the Halo 4 haters. Loadouts give an unfair advantage? But everyone could choose loadouts. How can it be unbalanced if everybody has the same choices?

I agree with that.

Other FPS games dont have de-scope because they instead have a mechanic called Flinch. It is when you take damage it makes your reticule flinch and move so that its harder to keep it on the target. Halo does not have this mechanic, so when you take damage your reticule doesnt move. Also removing descope is a terrible idea, it destroys game balance and reduces the skillgap.

descoping is a core aspect of halo combat. No way it should ever be removed.

No de-scoping would give greater advantage to long range precision weaponry. This would lead to pop and shoot long distance battles over and over and over again. De-scoping gives the guy with an auto a fighter’s chance to close the gap on a long range weapon.

Yes and no. It would be balanced in the sense that everyone is playing on the same mechanic, but it destroys weapon balance. People end up just sitting across map scoped in trying to longshot each other. It also shifts more balance towards ranged weapons, and makes sniper rifles OP.

As for loadouts, they simply dont work with halo’s mechanics. THey are fine for quick TTK games where there are slight benefits with certain weapons over others, but in the halo sandbox it makes 9/10 of the weapons useless. If you want loadouts, just play warzone or go play CoD.

OP here.

You guys are doing a good job at making me understand where I’m wrong. So thanks.

Um… this is how all the past Halo games work, except Halo 4. It keeps it balanced. Snipping was way too fricking easy in Halo 4. Now it’s a little more skill based… again.

This is exactly right. I believe halo 4 went down the road of no descoping and it killed weapon balance. The DMR became the go to weapon for all loadouts and the gameplay devolved into long range crossmap gun fights which were really boring. Also loadouts hurt halo pretty badly too. Halo 4 also had load outs which killed vehicle balance since on vehicle heavy maps everyone switched to a loadout with a plasma pistol and plasma grenades. Vehicles became rolling deathtraps.
