There are many commonalities between modern first person shooters but Halos sandbox is what makes it stand out in the crowd. Halo is the most flexible first person franchise on the market.
Halo 4 unintentionally killed off a large swath of communities with some of the changes to the sandbox… Trick jumping and mongoose launching have been stymied by the lowered ceiling on maps. This change has removed some of the fun from the game while trying to eliminate perceived problems of camping too high and how high flying vehicles are in the map.
In order to keep the fun aspects of the game in and the perceived negatives out on this issue I propose that Halo 5 does the following:
[/li]- Raise the hard ceiling, by a lot, preferably higher than they have ever been before.
- Put a hard ceiling THAT ONLY AFFECTS [size8]FLYING [/size] vehicles on the map. This will keep the vehicles in the range you want without ruining the fun of launching warthogs mongooses and people through the air achieving ridiculous amounts of awesome.
- Put a soft kill zone above the hard ceiling. The two ceiling system will prevent players from going where you don’t want them without ruining one of the most unique and fun aspects of Halo.
Halo should be a haven for creativity; competitive players should get changes that positively affect game play for them but they do not have to come at the experience of players that want to explore the sandbox, tinker around and have fun.
