Please stop DDOS attacks in H4

I was playing Arena today. Figured I would get a few games in before H4.

Got DDOS’d twice.

Will there be anything done to prevent these attacks in H4?

It even happens in social sometimes. It must be really easy to do because it is happening more often. People even brag about it SMH.

If you don’t know what it is
here is an interesting article on it. You can see its very easy to do and it plagues high level/ranked gameplay.

Thank you.

Da Frak you talkin’ 'bout?

Not trying to be a jerk here… but do you know what a DDOS attack is?

EDIT: In order to be of some use, here. I will explain, in a very brief, simplified manner, what exactly a DDOS attack is:

DDOS Attacks, or Denial Of Service attacks, occur when someone, with malicious intent, sends tons among tons among tons of packets to a very specific IP Address, in order to overload that person’s internet connection. With all of these packets, your internet provider can not handle all the information that’s being processed, and so, you are cut of from an internet connection. (This is where the “Denial Of Service” thing comes from.)
In order for this to happen, the malicious attacker HAS to obtain your IP Address from some source. They can’t just select your gamertag and DDOS you from there.

In this case, I think the host selection for you has been, unfortunately, -Yoink–suckingly terrible. Just lag, no Denial Of Service. (Or, your internet service provider might just be experiencing some problems, if your connection isn’t typically this bad.)

> Not trying to be a jerk here… but do you know what a DDOS attack is?

I don’t think he does.

What are you talking about?

What leads you to believe I don’t?

I am certainly no expert but from what I gathered its when a person uses a shell to flood your modem with tons of information so that you get kicked offline.

It happens a lot to good players.Maybe that’s why people don’t understand?

Host booting sucks. There really needs to be preventative measures against it.

I edited my first post to explain a bit further. I hope it helps.

Or maybe we do understand because we have good connection and we play the game with out lagging out. I would try to see if its your connection first, but please don’t try and make yourself seem so good because this happened to you. because like i said it was most likely a connection problem.

You do understand how simple it is to get someone’s IP if they are in the game with you correct?

You’re right, there are no programs that give you the IPs of who your playing with…

Oh wait…

Damn, you’re right. Literately one google search latter and I’m at a website that has it as freeware. Well, to be honest, there isn’t much MS or 343i can do.

I’m aware that it’s fairly easy to obtain an IP address. All I’m trying to say is that DDOS attacks through Halo are extremely rare. The edit I made was to not prove you wrong, but to further educate those who may not have a complete understanding of DDOS attacks. You may want to take something into consideration, though: Maybe your IP was gained through some other means. Perhaps something you’ve done online through your PC as opposed through your Xbox. You might as well take it into consideration.
You can’t know for sure that someone over Xbox Live is DDOSing you. If you find out it is, then great, more power to you. I’m only trying to help you consider all of the possibilities, here.

I guarantee I have better internet than 99.9999%. Of the people I play with.

I played tons of games last night and this morning and didn’t get kicked offline until I went in Arena and was taking a deuce on the other team.

Happened two games in a row. went to double team and multi-team and everything is fine.

It does happen…it is a problem. I am sorry you are in denial.

And Microsoft should not be letting your IP be seen so easily…

Well, the you are acting, I’d say you deserved it. Maybe you shouldn’t be such jerk to people online?

People deserve to get kicked because they play well?

Are you kidding, i could care less about this thread but i am just saying it is so rare to even get DDOS on xbox, and you say you got it twice? Now i can admit when i am wrong but you are acting like you know 100% that is was a DDOS. So please don’t say i’m in denial, when clearly your stuck on this.
