To those of you who want an easy, relaxing game, and feel that you’re always playing against “tryhards”. Don’t you realise that if you have an easy match, the opposing team have a tough match? If you just breeze through all of your games with a 3:1 KD ratio, to them you’re the tryhard? They’re wondering why they keep getting matched up against someone like you who totally destroys them and makes the game no fun to play.
The object of any game is to win, so why do you complain when the other team tries to win? Do you want them to just line up and let you shoot them? Or stand still? Perhaps let you get the power weapons?
I’ve seen a lot of complaints about “tryhards”, and think it’s ridiculous. Of course everyone is going to try to win, what is the point in playing if you don’t? In fact it’s against the rules to not try to win, you’ll get booted for idling or betraying after all.
If you just had easy games all the time, it would be no fun. Winning in Halo means a lot because it’s tough. And when you have those rare games where you get a Kill Frenzy or Running Riot etc, it feels so much better because you’ve earned it legitimately. So I’d say to just try to enjoy the game, win or lose. It’s supposed to be fun after all.
People use the term tryhards to justify their own failure and satisfy their ego, that needs to be fed with easy kills. Like in CoD, which is why that game is so popular with kids, it’s easy.

Exactly. We’re always going to have games we win and games we lose. And if we get an easy game, someone else gets a tough game.

I know what it means, but don’t like the overuse of it. And it really is meaningless, I’d rather have a tryhard on my team than have someone without a mic, or someone who betrays for weapons etc.

Hi, either contribute to the thread, or stop making useless and non constructive posts. I’ve told you that I know what the phrase means, that’s the end of it as far as I’m concerned.

I feel like 90% of the complaint threads on this forum would dissapear if people could grasp this one basic fact. But for some reason they cant. Someone should just repeat this line on every thread complaining about ranks, social, k/ds, etc.
@OP- Play how you want. Games are about fun, but also about winners and loser, so let the losers complain. It’s usually a sign of lacking skill when people complain (also I’m sure 343 is fed up with the children that feel entitled to win and cant handle a loss).
If you’re trying to win, you are doing nothing wrong.
If you feel like playing casually and things aren’t going your way, so what? You cannot dictate other players to play the way you want them to. The “tryhards” are not forcing you to play casually, right? If you play someone who is better than you and get crushed, guess what, you aren’t at their skill level. If you’re constantly losing, then you aren’t playing people around the same level as you, over time you will be matched with people around your level, so the casuals play the casuals, and “tryhards” play “tryhards”.
The way the game works, you win against someone around your skill level, the game is going to match you with someone higher than your skill level the next game. If you win again, it repeats.
If you lose, than you are going to play people at a lesser skill level. If you lose, it’ll match you against someone even lower. And it repeats.
Over time, you will start playing people around your level.
The term came from unskilled players who label people that actually try to win. How funny is it that people are given a title because they WANT to win lol.

Why can’t we just give everyone participation trophies. Isn’t that what the game is all about? haha I’m tired of people complaining.

You can be wrong without acting like a -Yoink-, mate.
Tryhard is generally used to describe people who take the game far too seriously. They care more about their stats then whether they’re having fun. They spend an inordinate amount of time looking up strategies and exploits. They often try to tell you how to play the game, because playing their way is the only way that counts. Basically anyone who whines about K/D and/or their clan for more than 5 minutes. Anyone who thinks they are MLG or A pro is likely a tryhard.

Basically a full fireteam of people who goes into arena wearing sweat bands and making callouts as well as trashing talking every time they win…and still trash talk when they lose. There’s a difference between people who want to win and will accept defeat, and people who are just -Yoinks!- when things don’t go their way.
In my eyes, KDA means nothing if you party up and spawn kill. Free for All is a true way of showing skill.

Ouch, people without a mic still contribute, plus party chat. I’m probably the exact opposite. At least you can kick the betrayer, but you can’t kick the guy that tells you where you should be and spouting curse words at you for not being there.
