…who thought that Halo 4 was actually really good.

Sure it had it’s flaws, *cough file sharing delay cough, but that doesn’t mean it was bad. If you look on YouTube there is a fair share of love/hate videos. Just like the forums, 'cause they’re there, too. Don’t forget weapon balancing. That didn’t get fixed until June 2013.
God, it feels like that was a year ago since it’s 2014.

I’m not starting a flame war, but I’m just saying.

To me, the game is balanced. But, I had been on a hiatus and then played CoD: Ghosts for a while.

I especially like playing Infinity Slayer on the smaller maps and BTB on larger maps.
But, that’s my opinion. Does anyone agree with me?

There’s like 1 person on this forum who agrees with you. Everyone else, myself included think you’re insane.

Ok, even the people that swear they hate Halo 4 don’t really hate it. I don’t hate it, but I share most of the frustrations that the haters list here over and over again.

The TL;DR is that we don’t understand why things that worked well enough in Halo 3 and Reach don’t seem to work in the latest game: Matchmaking, fileshare, theater, custom games, et. al.

That said, have a look at what Xbox One promises and you may have more hope for Halo 5. Only problem with that is that 343i wants to work on 5 and appears to be willing to let 4 remain busted.

> Only problem with that is that 343i wants to work on 5 and appears to be willing to let 4 remain busted.

If 5 is actually as good as I can realistically hope, then I’ll even forgive it.

At launch it was a good game, a bit far from having the core Halo for me personally. Current day it is a very good Halo game. A few tweaks and maps plus in game rank could move it from very good to great IMO.

I enjoyed a new take at 4’s launch, disliked some of the lacking features and Infinity sort of grew a bit stale for me quickly, especially the CTF waypoint and no dropping by the carrier.

Fast forward to the current day after all the updates and tweaks and there is a very solid Halo game these days. It has the best gunplay and sandbox of any Halo game IMO. The turbo update drastically improved Halo 4, I wish that had been the launch game. The same mates who played Reach continue to play Halo 4, for me at least anyhow.

The maps to me are a large part of the overall game and design philosophy that feed into everything else multiplayer. It seems the maps were made bigger or more “random” for lack of a better word and this altered the game play quite a bit. When you combine that with the more random approach of personal ordnance and loadouts dominating at launch I can see quite a shift in Halo by design early on.

It was a worthy attempt to unify the multiplayer of Halo after the splintering that Reach showed during it’s life and the TU/Anniversary updates.

We’ve seen a large turn around to that since launch and it’s a shame the DLC maps aren’t more prevalent. Maps like perdition, monolith, pitfall, vertigo (to an extent) and skyline make all the difference in how the game plays for me. It makes Halo 4 more like that classic arena feel and less BTB style maps like Vortex or Forge based maps. Don’t get me wrong the Forge maps and community turn out amazing stuff and every game I am extremely thankful for their creations and getting them into matchmaking.

I’m all for variety and developers sticking to their visions but the weighting of it was to biased to Infinity at launch. After seeing the latter DLC, the global championships, the turbo update, ricochet mode, playlist cadence and the sustain team plus evolution of Waypoint feedback I’m really excited for next gen Halo Xbox One. I also enjoy the settings and playlists Halo 4 currently offers, I feel the maps could be better though, more Halo 2/3 style maps please. 1 sided asymmetrical objective I miss you and assault RIP.

It seems like all the ducks are lining up to cater to the default, the hardcore, the BTB large battles and more. Dedicated servers and the game changing features of the new X1 platform will bring a consistency like no other previous Halo, perhaps approaching LAN style play IMO. Roll on next gen Halo but Halo 4 is a great way to spend some nights playing with buddies. I still turn off my X1 games like ACIV or Killer Instinct to play Halo 4, also play Reach or 3 on Thursdays too.

After all I’m hosting a LAN party this SAT and Halo 4/2 are going to be amongst the most popular games played, they’ve already been the most requested for everyone to bring along.

If you’re talking about campaign for Halo 4 I was just blown away by the graphics on this old dog of a console, the 360. The character models, animation, facial animation, dialogue, voice acting, soundtrack 1&2 etc was all of an insanely high quality. The audio mixing between music/effects sorely needed sliders for personal adjustment and the music in game was sort of drowned out. I could go on about campaign more but I’ll leave that for another reply.

I like it. I played a bunch of Halo 3 online last night and it was a tremendous blast … but it felt refreshing to step back into the crisp controls and fast-paced action of Halo 4.
I’ve noticed that my love/hate meter for Halo 4 will sway based mainly on how well/bad I play; which often depends on 3 things:

  1. The people I play against; is it fairly matched?

  2. Lag. Need I say more?

  3. Any other excuse I can come up with.

But I love it. I’m playing it right now.

Halo 4 was/is an excellent game now thanks to the title update. Before that it was still good, but not as good. The pre title update version of halo 4 ruined it for too many players meaning that even though 343 did a great job in fixing the game it was too late for a lot of players who had already written it off as a bad game.

Halo 4 is fine. Every game in the world has flaws, except mine sweeper. I hope 343i focuses their attention on the future title however. Were to far into the games life span to try and fix every little thing that people don’t agree with. I believe 343i will take this game and learn from it to give us something much better down the line.

Is Halo 4 great? In my opinion No. It’s a satisfactory game that I’ll continue to play because, well, I like Halo.

Well, I find myself playing it everyday, despite all the randomness in each match.

I like Halo 4. Played it for over a year now. Only problem is, I think I already got bored…

Halo 4 maintains an online population of around 20,000. That must mean that a lot of people still enjoy it.

damn dude, looks like you’re wrong.

well, it isn’t perfect at all nor do i enjoy it
as much as i enjoyed Reach, but i can’t imagine playing
a different online-shooter. so yeah, not everything went wrong with halo 4.

> There’s like 1 person on this forum who agrees with you. Everyone else, myself included think you’re insane.

Am I that person? I completely agree with you OP. And I’m sure other do as well.

Strictly speaking of multiplayer, I like Halo 4, but only because of what in it was already built by Bungie. 343i made a few good changes and improvements (AR is more effective and fun to use and Ricochet is a blast), but for the most part, I didn’t like anything 343i did.

In short, Halo 4 is a good game when compared to other games. But it’s not a good game when compared to its predecessors.

I definitely like it.
Most of the default maps gotta go, and I was hoping for better vehicle variety.
Wish most of the gametypes and customization options from 3 and Reach weren’t removed so certain people wouldn’t have to put them in, 343 included.

Other than that it’s pretty nice.

Halo 4 wasn’t a good game imo. Too much randomness with a silly point based reward system in the form of ordnance that more often than not made things completely unbalanced. A short campaign with a pitiful ending and the boring and laggy spartan ops. Of course people who still play it will disagree but most like me who couldn’t stand it left a long time ago.

Good games do not lose so much of their population in such a short period of time. Halo 4 population numbers come close to a halo games that are much older and that in itself is nothing to be proud of. Would I agree that halo 4 is one of the best available shooters? No because it isn’t even the best halo available on the market. By the time updates started coming from 343i it was far too late.

Maybe halo 5 will be better we shall need to wait and see, personally I will wait a week or so and see what other forum members think of it before committing to a purchase.

> Fast forward to the current day after all the updates and tweaks and there is a very solid Halo game these days. It has the best gunplay and sandbox of any Halo game IMO.

A BIG “disagree” from me. The sandbox is neither interesting nor skillful, as almost every weapon is a power weapon that can 1-shot/hit you.

And the fact you are still on the forum says that you still care somewhat about the game. If you dont like Halo 4, then why stay on the forum?

@OP

I do like this game. Like you, I went on a hiatus. I went back to playing COD and then played Ghosts for a while. However, I got rid of Ghosts because what made COD for me was unlocking things through leveling and challenges which they almost completely did away with in Ghosts. So that game now has no incentive for me to play it.

I now play Halo 4 and am playing Griffball like crazy. The only thing I dont like about Griffball, which has always been a problem that I know will never be fixed, is the lack of teammwork and the constant blatant teamkilling for the ball.

Yesterday was really the first day I started playing 4 again and I saw how fast I was leveling in Griffball so I kept playing it. Then of course I got the assh*les who wanted nothing more than to TK.

Even though I was frustrated about that, I just found another lobby and still enjoyed playing.

I LOVE how you cite the biggest problem in the game to be file share. Give me a break…
The point with the multiplayer is that its way too random, I could go on forever but I’m pretty sure everyone already knows this (some agree some don’t).
With the campaign, sure it had good graphics but that doesn’t make it a good game. Far from it. The main problem is that it had an insanely linear storyline mainly because there was only ONE bad guy. So boring. Yeah he is the last of a dying race, poor him, but even all his minions are robots. Considering the chief is alone most of the game fighting robots it just gets stupid. Where are the dynamic characters on both sides? Even the humans were boring af

First I gotta say a lot of good points have been addressed. And second I wish Ozzy Onya A2Z was my friend IRL for those LAN matches haha.

The asymmetrical maps, absolutely - probably the most needed aspect.
Dedicated servers for H5? Hold on a sec, I think I need to check my underwear.

But don’t diss the point system!!! That’s what keeps me coming back.

Overall I think H4 was and is very good. My theory is this:

Its rise and fall can be attributed to gaming culture/journalism today. Things 10 years ago+ I feel were manufactured to last, including video games. Replayability and lasting value were major selling points to games.

But now when I read online articles or watch youtube videos about games, most authorship occurs before the game is even released, or within 3 days of its release. This essentially makes blockbuster games the flavor-of-the-month - merely fixes until the next game comes out. Kids today just spend hordes of money on games and never replay the classics, and I can’t blame developers because it is a fantastic business model - Make a game that will keep gamers happy for 1-2 months, release a new one in a year or less. This is modern-day gaming, and it makes me sick.

This sort of gaming culture is not good for old-style Halo. And I’m sorry to break it to you but I believe Halo 5 will be nothing like any of the previous halos, and that is good for the future of Halo.
