It’s a Large Map, not a Medium sized one, plus the majority of hills are just out in the open with no cover.
Plus it’s the only map that I ever seem to play on anyway.
I agree with you on that, although I would be a bit sad to see it go, since I get tons of kills when the hill is in the open 
Bungie used to run it with territories and it wasn’t so bad, just too short of a time limit on the game.
Honestly, I don’t mind the map being in KotH; but you’re correct, it does get played way too often and some variation would be nice. Also, for KotH, it would be much better not having the mantises I think, just warthog, ghost, and mongoose like it used to.
On another note, because of the size and popularity of the map, I’m kind of surprised it’s not in dominion… There are already two clear-cut bases, and one could easily be forged either at the pelican area or the wide-open space on the turret wall. Just saying it’d be much better suited for that than KotH.
