Too true OP.
In the end, all we can say, whether you like where Halo is going or not, which games were more successful/popular. Halo used to be a huuuuuuge pop culture icon. Halo 3 to this day has sold an estimated 12.5 - 13 million copies, the highest in the whole series.
People think the community was as bad then as it is now? Yeah, maybe because the community has a whole lot less people in it now that complain about the current games because they left the series.
Halo 2 dealt with backlash from CE purists. Reach, H4 and H5 dealt with backlash from classic purists (which is, of course, much more people). Throw in now how sales and population are suffering and it’s very clear that it’s worse now than before.

Halo sales have been declining since Halo 3 as well as population.
Yes, I standby the statement that this community is the same as it was then.
While I agree with this, the changes made in the classics were generally unique, many not taken from other games. But almost all of 343s ideas are taken from other games, and are forced to work in halo. I don’t hate sprint, I just hate how it affects the way maps are made and how the base movements is slower to compensate for it. However, I don’t hate halo 5 because of it. What I hate about halo 5 is the lack of content, and the progression system. The story was terrible as well, at least the classics had great campaigns where you accomplished things, cliffhangers or not.
I feel as if the halo someone loves the most is the one they grew up on, or first started playing. Halo reach is mine, even though it had a few flaws. I would give anything to go back to those days…
This is what I was/am trying to point out to all of the people saying Halo 5 is the worst Halo yet.
> Every single Halo title has had its issues that people pointed out and hated, but in the end those same games and specifics in the games are now praised and loved. Halo 2 was absolutely despised at launch and even a few years after, but is now considered the best Halo title ever released. All of the Halo titles have introduce new and dynamic features to the game, most of which were hated, but now are loved by players. Bungie was not perfect, they made mistakes in games and even admit to it. 343 admitted to Halo 4 being bad. Give them a chance and just remember that this arguing and debating over content, ranting about how this is the worst Halo ever made is nothing new at all. This community is no different than it was back in 2004. Don’t believe me, go to the old Bungie forums for Halo 2. Pointing out faults in something is good, it gives the creators a chance to see it, but be constructive about. Be realistic about it.
conclusion
HALO REACH RUINED THE HALO COMMUNITY
Couldn’t agree more! It was a good read

They been declining since Reach. Halo 3 was the series peak in sales and population.
You must also not be familiar with the sales for each game, including this one, if you think this was the typical decline that people expected.
You think the community is the same, but it’s undeniable that plenty of people have left the franchise. And as I said that’s the only reason it may be on the same level is because a bunch of people that would be here complaining have since decided it’s no longer worth playing the games.
I have enjoyed each game as much as the last. Even the side games are solid in my eyes.
The Halos got better an better with each game, in my opinion. It’s too unfortunate that people expect perfection.
Every thing was entirely true op. I wish I could somehow force the entire Halo community to read this! They need to. Every Halo game was despised at some point and had flaws the were pointed out to no end. This community is so ironic; full of complainers and nostalgic people. Just play Halo and either hate it or love it!

This. People think that we’re just making up the fact that the vets left because of 343’s changes, but there’s just way too much evidence that its exactly what happened. I’ve even heard random people in gamestop talking about how they quit Halo because of 343 when H5 commercials would come on.
Nobody hates halo more than the people who play halo.
I played online shooters before halo 2, but never before had I spoken with so many jerks who hate the game they were currently playing with such a fiery passion.
Agreed!
Thanks for the TL;DR too.
Amen brother. Amen.
Your conclusion and TLDR should be changed - Children will be children.

Halo sales started declining after cod 4, and has continued mainly because halo caters to a different audience. Everyone wants 343 to go back to the classic formula when sales were high but they forget how many players left halo for the faster pace of cod, I don’t think going back is the right answer. Most casuals will now purchase games like cod or destiny but there is still a core audience that loves halo, and there always will be. Halo 5 did an awesome job making halo relevant against modern shooters while sticking to it competitive arena roots. Halo has much, much more competition today than it did in the days of halo 3, as far as people leaving many of the old school halo fans are grown up now in their 30s and have probably given up gaming in general. At least we have the master chief collection to kinda bring back that nostalgia from our childhood, but halo will continue to change and evolve and ten years from now we will be playing halo 5 anniversary griping about how bad the latest addition to the series is.
