Xbox competitive player here. After two years of struggling to keep up with PC players, I finally got my hands on my brother’s PC. Nothing special, just a 2014 machine with a Intel i3 Skylake and Radeon 460, and a 2010 monitor. Yet, I was impressed by how responsive was the aim, it literally felt like I was aimbotting. I usually play on a Series X, and as we all know on 90% of console games, VSync is enabled by default and can’t be disabled.
Now that I have personally experienced how much of a game changer the absence of VSync is, I really ask 343 to port to console the “VSync OFF” toggle button.
Even if I experience horrible screen tearing on my brother’s PC and none on Xbox, the reduced input lag is a way bigger factor when it comes to aiming.
We all know PC has a huge advantage on MCC, we could limit this gap between computers and consoles by just having the possibility to switch this arcaic feature off. Xbox Series and One X are already compatible with FreeSync, and most monitors on the market actually are aswell.
I get that most casual console players would be clueless about “why my screen is tearing, what is this, game’s broken wtf”, but the solution to this would be to set VSync ON by default, so casual gamers that don’t browse settings that much could still experience a 100% fluid graphics whatever setup they’re using, while competitive console players would manually switch off the feature in order to enjoy a smoother aim and thus reduce the gap between consoles and PC.
