Please prioritize frame-rate

Obviously this is a bit different compared to the threads we’ve been having about how we could change Halo 5’s gameplay for the better. But one thing that I feel will be essential to the Halo 5 experience is frame-rate. A lot of developers say they’re aiming for 60FPS but then we get crap like this:

TitanFall frame-rate (Drops to 20FPS and has loads of screen-tearing).

and this

Killzone SF frame-rate (V-synced, but still has extremely inconsistent frame-rate that hovers around 35-60FPS).

…and this

Sniper Elite 3 frame-rate (Again, inconsistent frame-rate that dips to 30FPS with massive amounts of screen-tear).

Granted, I’ll give Killzone a slight pass here since it’s a launch title, but my point still stands. I know 343 is aiming for 60FPS for H5 which is great! But please, make sure it’s locked 60FPS with v-sync to eliminate screen-tearing. It will make Halo 5 a much better experience especially in multi-player.

Thank you!

Halo is Microsoft’s best shot at proving that the Xbox One can compete with the PS4 graphics wise. (Partly why I think they did the MCC, marketing tactic to get people to buy the Xbox One)

Microsoft can’t really afford to release their flagship title with poor performance.

Yes 60 FPS is a must. Going back and forth between Call of Duty and Halo, you can definitely feel the game chugging away at 30 fps. It takes quite a while to get used to. After a long stint of playing COD and not playing Halo, once I went back to Halo, I literally said out loud, “What’s wrong with my Xbox? What happened to the framerate?” OH Halo is 30 fps and COD is 60 fps? You don’t say?

I agree. 30 fps may be serviceable for shooters but I think 343 should put 60 fps first over resolution.

i highly doubt that i will be a 60 fps that keeps on dropping, this is an exclusive game so 343 can squeeze every % of performance out of the XB1 plus they have promised 60 fps and 1080p. i do not really think it will drop in frames since its meant to focus on arena shooting and frame rate drops on that is bad!

No they only promised 60fps.

There will be frame drops but let’s hope they’re not too noticeable.

There is no way that they could guarantee 60 FPS unless the game itself uses so little processing power that the margin to 60 FPS is huge. So unless you want a 2D platformer version of Halo, 60 FPS is not likely to be a guarantee. It depends so much on what players do within the game that it is unlikely to be testable outside of actual play.

With that said, I agree with the OP’s sentiment that they must make every possible effort to prevent frame drops.

I definitely agree with some of you when you say there will be frame drops. I expect some quite honestly. But what I want 343 to see here is to avoid frame-rate like the games I posted in my OP. That type of frame drops and screen-tearing will be very noticeable to the player and will hinder the Halo 5 experience in both the campaign and multiplayer.

343 CAN get locked 60FPS + v-sync if they really wanted. Any developer can quite honestly. But I understand if they have different priorities in terms of their rendering goals such as lighting, particle effects, image-quality, etc… Obviously developers not only want their games to run good, but also look very pretty visually. I can’t fault them for that.

So without sounding like a broken record, I just want 343 to see the importance of smooth frame-rate. They did a pretty good job with Halo 4 targeting 30FPS. Let’s just hope they can do the same for 60FPS in Halo 5.
