Please no rock, paper, scissors gameplay

I hate my enemy’s actions having a larger influence on my success or failure then my own performance. Control of my own ingame destiny is very important to me, so I’m asking 343 not to make any weapons that can’t be dodged or countered with quick reflexes or common sense.

The most obvious things this would mean:
no sparten laser
no gauss hog (it wasn’t used anyway cause its so OP)
no vehicle wreaking sniper

I’ll agree with you on the Reach Sniper Rifle. That thing did disproportionate damage to vehicles and probably should not be repeated. Then again, so does the DMR…

However, I personally think the Spartan Laser is fine for Multiplayer, especially since only four shots can be fired from it. It is very scarce in Reach, but should be seen more, especially on heavy vehicle maps. It is the only weapon that can effectively counter the Banshee. So long as it is able to be contested and respawns on time, there shouldn’t be problems. Rockets are only effective against vehicles at closer ranges, and any decent player can barrel-roll with the Banshee to dodge rockets.

well you do realize that RPS is always been a way of Halo. also getting rid of SL would make it even more RPS. Halo’s weapons are alot more complicated then just a simple RPS layout. to make a balanced gameplay Halo devs make games in which the game is played on multiple levels. First you start out with small arms to medium based weapons and power weapons and other weapons are scattered on the maps in locations they believe are most balanced. Then they place the vehicles, just like the weapons, they see fit. Now the Major RPS is that Infantry < Vehicles < Flying Vehicles < Infantry. but depending on what weapon or vehicle you are using can alter that. to me its very complicated but makes for more interesting gameplay.

before halo reach then PP was definitely the weakest weapon and yet in H3 it could be the most lethal weapon to everyone else if used correctly. Also you have to remember all games are RPS. there is always a high elevation or stairway or power weapon. in order to get all that out to make a gametype with not RPS you would have to make a completely flat map with 1 weapon no grenades with no reloading. that wouldnt be fun but that would be the way to have absolutely no RPS. You see that wouldne be fun at all. At the end of the day almost all kills are just luck on being at the right place, right time.

No DMR/BR that is the best gun for every situation (except real power weapons). :stuck_out_tongue:
Spartan Laser is a skillful gun, or it was back in Halo 3. It’s good for killing vehicles, but has long cooldown, very limited ammo and aiming it ain’t that easy.
Vehicle wrecking sniper = worst gameplay idea yet.
Also sniper needs a serious nerf, it should be a HS only weapon with slow fire rate and low ammo like in Halo 3, where people either were good enough to get HS or didn’t touch the sniper, in Reach it’s just way to much sniper spam.

@rockersk08 Even if you saw the SL targeting laser which was hard enough it often isn’t possible to get behind a rock or something before dieing.
Unless the launcher is in your field of view theres no way to know your in danger. I’d suggest giving the rockets better homing ability but limited flight time, and providing the banshee pilot with an arrowing pointing in the direction of the missile. If implemented properly this would force the banshee to do some Topgun-esque dodges for ~15 seconds.

Well with the SR the game reach is a hit scan which makes it most times easier to use. also the vehicles and how easy they get destroyed was a joke. and also the SR is still mostly the same. What makes so many people use it is that it counts towards commendations and challenges and they think “complete challenge/commendation means more credits which means getting up in rank to inheritor faster.” So if you get rid of rewarding players for using it and take off hit scan with its anti vehicle ability it will go back to the old way it use to be.

Well the spartan laser was on a total of two maps so I think they realized its strong but it wasn’t Undodgeable however in halo 3 the needler was dodgeable in halo reach you can jump and Move side to side all you want but your going to die in the end.

If H4 spartans move like Chief then sniper spaming against infantry wont be a problem. Making infantry move slower forced bungie to rebalance everything else and they didn’t do a good job of it.

The entire point of this thread was to say skill should be greater then super weapons. This is very important when talking about the RL and SL because vehicles take so long to respawn.

Most weapons in the game can be countered with reflexes and quick wits. The vehicle destroying sniper I’ll give ya, but the spartan laser isn’t exactly OP, first it is designed as an anti-vehicle weapon that can be very easily dodged by ground troops, and if you’re a good and attentive pilot/driver you should be able to dodge it in most vehicles (except maybe the falcon). The gauss hog can be o’ertaken by many different things in the game, a well-placed grenade, rockets, spartan lasers, plasma pistols, and if you’re lucky, you’re own fists can effectively take down a gauss hog. A little teamwork on all of these things never hurts either.

it depends on what game you are playing and gametype. halo 2 they respawned so quick that the H2 RL and H3 SL would fight right on in. HR any vehicle was made by a 3rd world country it falls appart under PP fire

This is why Reach sucks.

So…

You’re asking 343 to remove any and all Power Weapons?

Because that’s what you’re asking.

Round a corner. Shotgun. You’re dead.
Round a corner. Rockets. You’re dead.
Round a corner. Sniper. You’re dead.
Round a corner. Stuck. You’re dead.

You can not dodge or counter a load of buckshot to your face. Or 15 pounds of high explosive delivered at high speed. Or a hammer that twists gravity.
