We have been there, done that, with FIVE GAMES (first person) And we FINISHED THE FIGHT. At least that’s what was drilled into our heads from the end of Halo 2 - 3. The flood you ask…maybe a bit. We were all so enthralled to see the Arbiter and the Elites take sides with the Humans in thier common fight. The end of Halo 3 gave us such hope for the future of peace between Sangheili and Human kind. It was a beautiful ending. I would not like to throw that all away with the next chapter of Halo. How great would it be to see the Arbiter greet the Chief entering back into normal space in Halo 6? To see the Elites and Humans (with SOME conflict) learn to live with each other. The Brutes? Been there too! Without the Covenant they are just big dumb apes who can barely escape the atmosphere of their own planet. Grunts can’t do Blam! Jackals aren’t much of a threat. Hunters and scarabs need too be organized by a control, so we need something new. I have a strong sense that we will be fighting much stronger enemies in the Halo installments to come. Perhaps the Precursers? Maybe a few flood along the way? Forerunner machines and AI? We will have to see. But IMO, fighting the Covenant has become old hat. We finished the fight. Now its time to return the galaxy to what it once was before the Human - Covenant, and Foreunner - Flood Wars. And end the Halo series, once and for all.
Well, the Covenant is the money-maker of the entire Halo franchise.
lol, *points at the interview were o’ connor says “no purple” in H4
The Covenant is gone.
By the species that comprise it still remain…
> The Covenant is gone.

Well by the Covenant refer mostly to the species that it is compromised of. It is just easier to identifly them as such
Engineers are Forerunner and due to their recent collaborations with humans, it is very likely we’ll be seeing them again. Elites are also likely.
Grunts are unlikely as they are indecisive but we might see a special dialogue Grunt (a tradition missing in ODST and Reach, yet both games had special dialogue marines…).
Hunters are also unlikely (although some could have stayed with Elite leadership).
Jackals would be minor skirmishes and I don’t see the point of including them. Same thing with Drones. As for Brutes, that depends on when Halo 4 takes place and who it follows (if it’s Master Chief, then it’s highly unlikely).
SPOIL
Well, you should all read Halo Glasslands.
Brutes: Trading Engineer with Elites
Elites: Trying to get a political order in there.
Jackals: Piratery, black market…
Huragok: Everybody wants them.
Technically, the Covenant period is over, and you’re not supposed to fight some.
But something at the end of the book makes me confused. Not to SPOIL EVERYTHING OUT, but it’s really not all the Elites that are with the Arbiter’s idea of a peace-treat with humans, they still think we’re vermin. If we have to fight “used-to-be-Covenants”, it will be small groups and less powerful (without Prophets, their technology isn’t as good as it was and THIS IS BADASS).
Sorry if I spoiled you a lot.

But it was meant to end in Halo 3. It DID end in Halo 3
Well then lets ‘Resume the fight’. Covenant is Halo and so are their weapons and vehicles. Without them, Halo 4 will not be Halo. And people call Reach a non-halo game. Imagine what Halo 4’d be like without, at least, Elites as allies which would include their weapons and vehicles except green elite colour. Like O’Connor said, no more purple. Bring on the green!
The story is kind of set in stone by now. If there are Covenant, it’s probably too late to remove them.

Resume the Fight? That just sounds dumb. Maybe we can combat Covenant remnants that were “lost” and not given the news of the end of the conflict as they come in contact with the Chief, and the UNSC. In the midst we may learn more of the Forerunners, the Flood, and end up stumbling upon the Precursers along the way. The following Halo 5 and 6 could be about possibly using Forerunner technology researched by the UNSC and the Covenant to help drive the Precursers out of the galaxy, and eliminate the Flood threat as we know it forever.

People are okay with it now but there will be so much -Yoinking!- if all the covenant parts of halo are gone. I like this green idea…
i would hate fighting the covenant again, the whole point of finishing the fight was to finish the fight, i want something new in Halo 4. i would love to see covenant races as allies on the fight against the new enemy, you know, something so powerful that would need the former covenant races to work with humanity but i don’t want any “TEH COVENANTZ ARE RE UNIDED IN HALO 4” BS…only time will tell what 343 is planning with this game.

and for these kind of contradictory statements i shall apply the “pics or it didn’t happen” rule on Halo 4

He said the “we’re not done with the Covenant” in this video, the no purple comment was made sometime earlier. It’s hard to know for sure exactly what he means given that we have basically nothing to go on yet.
Assembly’s description is enough for me:
“The Covenant war machine continues its march to conquest; even with its head severed it is still dangerous.”
And this is true for any religious militant organization.
While the Hunters and Grunts may not have the motivation anymore (fear of homeworld being destroyed, fear of Brutes), the Jackals and Drones can rise up snaps finger just like that. Why else would they have been Loyalists? They have nothing to fear. Only something to gain.
I’m not including Brutes because it was just an Elites vs. Brutes thing going on, on a personal level, as shown by Tartarus’ decision to ignore what 343 Guilty Spark revealed.
Of course, it depends on when Halo 4 takes place. Regardless, I hope I never see a Jackal again. Elites, Hunters, Grunts, and Engineers would all be ok, but the Loyalists are not fun to fight.

were not done with the covenant, but he stated no purple in H4, which means they appear after h4, duh
