Don’t get me wrong here, I’m happy if Halo Infinite is on Windows 10. What I don’t want is PC v Console cross play in multiplayer, mouse and keyboard vs controller is a sure way to hurt the player base. Allow cross play in forge, custom games and campaign co-op but not ranked and social multiplayer.
At some point cross play will be universal to everything (its already being implemented, it’s just a matter of when at this point), it’s just delaying the inevitable by not including it and I’d figure it better to start now, work out the kinks to address issues for the future.
you’re getting a larger player pool out of it which really extends a games life, so I don’t see it really hurting the playerbase, this reallly helps out games that don’t start out with huge pops to them from the get go on just one platform. It might also Limit the dumb console war talk and people will realize they’re playing a box that plays games in the end, brand means little other than $$ for companies, it doesn’t do anything for us however.
i get the KB+M advantages pc has, but I don’t care for it if games can have improvements elsewhere, furthermore you say to restrict it from competitive to which I can agree, but I don’t see the point In social if people want to think it’s supposed to be nothing but “fun and relaxing”.
I’m pretty sure they’ll give you the option to turn it off for Ranked like in Gears 4. However, Halo has always been made extremely well for playing with a controller, so mouse and keyboard would mainly see an advantage when players quickly do a 180.

Have to sort of agree. For matchmaking sure it shouldn’t have it but I think it should be optional for custom games/campaign. Plus the games would end up being more stressful plus it’s not as easy to balance like Gears Ultimate was.
They probably won’t considering people using mouse and keyboard have a big advantage, plus I’d rather not have the hacker problems that most of pc games have
I agree, I feel like controller users would be at a pretty big disadvantage but then again I could maybe play with friends who own ps4 and PC instead of xbone if they decide to buy this game

I agree with you in allowing cross play, I personally play on PC and am excited to finally be able to play halo on it since i haven’t been playing Xbox for a good time now. I hope the availability of aim assist for controller would help balance it out in terms of which one is better or maybe allow people to plug mouse and keyboard into the X box lol. I personally believe that in order to have cross play all games for all platforms, even PC, should allow KB+M and controllers.
I have zero desire to play again KB+M players. It does nothing but put controller players at a disadvantage. I have zero desire to get pub stomped beacause of my hardware choice. If they combine the playerbases then I will be one less player in it.
I only play on console but I’ll freely admit mouse and keyboard would destroy controller players. I don’t think Halo will be desperate enough for players bases to link them.
What might happen is you’ll be able to play on both platforms with the same profile which might be a nice compromise.
Cross play is inevitable imo, and as UEG Shadowangel pointed out it will be universal to everything eventually. I know Rocket League and Gears 4 give you options to choose who you want to play with, I see no reason Halo Infinite would not offer the same feature if cross play is included.
I understand the concerns and the picture of a dystopia painted here.
But I don’t see it happening even if cross-play is opened wide.
Why?
In ranked play ( disregarding all forms of input devices ) you should be matched according to your rank, and ideally that’d mean other players who are performing as well as you do, regardless of chosen input.
In social, the rank criteria goes out the window, and you may get stomped on, or stomp on someone, and that has always happened, and will continue to happen regardless of input devices. Even then, should we get angry in social if someone with k+m stomps us? It’s social?
You’ll probably never be able to properly tell if a user is using controllers or k+m, atleast not the average user, unless it is telegraphed by the game.
But considering I am all for a fair game, cross-play should be allowed in social lists and in there it should be allowed to toggle wether or not you want to play against a certain input device.
Ranked should be separated apart from one or two experimental test playlists. In which tests can be made for further studies.
All PvE modes should have cross play enabled, and customs and forge.
There are other games out there that require PC users to use controllers if they want to enter cross-play. I’d be fine with cross-play if a similar situation was enabled.
I think Halo Online has the best controller vs keyboard/mouse gameplay. Only give the controller players aim assist and disable it for kb/m and the game is fairly balanced. The only problem I have is kb/m players are aim bot with the sniper rifle, but other than that, this would be the best method when it comes to cross-play.
btw, please don’t punish me for talking about Halo Online…
The biggest question I have about Halo Infinite on PC is which platform will be used in HCS tournaments
Maybe In social, but definitely not in ranked. You only got to look at Gears 4 to see how that turned out.
If PC users have to see a controller I can see it working. Plus im sure the population could use it.

^ This. It’s perfectly fine to do cross-platform for Social because it’s less competitive tryhards. If you’re in a Social playlist, you’re probably there just to play Halo and have a good time, not really caring if you win or lose. It’s the perfect place to bridge the two community’s.

I can’t see 343 or Microsoft enforcing a strict controller only policy if that’s what you mean, because then you leave out any PC players that don’t have controllers laying around, which means they’d have to go out and buy one if they wanted to play the game.

Im sure they would have no problem buying a controller if the game was worth it? I don’t play on PC so I have no clue.

A lot of PC players hate controllers per se, because they are less precise than KBM controls, specifically for FPS and competitive FPS in particular. It even goes so far that they will mod KBM-features into games that were made predominantly with consoles in mind. (Skyrim for example.) Forcing one onto them would severely diminish said “worth” of the game in their eyes and the game might take a huge hit in sales because of that. Besides, it would make the game cost almost twice as much as it would normally, and that alone is enough to turn people off. Either that, or they would just mod the game to support KBM, so forcing a restriction would be pointless anyways.
I’d be cool with cossplay in multiplayer if it was an option you can toggle, otherwise I agree with you.
