Please make the next Halo more diverse

Space marines derived from the United Nations should reflect the entire world.

The overwhelming majority of characters in this series have been white and culturally American. This should not be the case.

Now, I can buy the argument that 500 years in the future globalization may have erased national boundaries when it comes to culture. This is also a Western shooter made for predominantly western consumers, so I understand and accept that strong influence. But it should not apply to race.

Let me paint a picture: Currently the world population sits at 7 billion. But China alone represents 1.3 billion and India 1.2 billion. Africa has a billion as well. Russia, the US and EU are dwarfed at 140, 300 and 500 million respectively. And remember those populations are very diverse as well: In the United States the plural majority are actually hispanics, not whites. Yet, Jun remains the only Asian character in these games and there have been none of spanish origin, period. We also have “token” black characters: Johnson, Romeo, etc.

Whites are a plural minority in the world and yet they make up the vast bulk of characters. This makes no sense.

Even so, Reach was a step in the right direction for Bungie. But then Halo 4 was a big step backwards.

343, you’d be doing gamers a service by leading on this front in your next game. Lots of other games fall into the same trap but that is not an excuse. I don’t like to compare games but the Mass Effect universe should be held standard on this subject.

I feel the exact same way, thank you OP. It seems that 343 forgot about the UN in UNSC.

Not just race, I’d like to see various human cultures reflected in future Halo titles. That was, by far, my biggest problem with Reach: I was on a human world, but I never found myself thinking that humans would actually live there. It felt too stark, too empty, too…dead really. Consequently, I didn’t feel particularly sorry for the inhabitants when the Covenant started to glass their home. Frankly, I thought they were being done a service.

There’s actually a lot of diversity in the books, but you’re right; more of that should be in the games.

I have to agree I always thought sci fi games should have a lot of diversity , I would like to also see ethnic and culturally diversity from other planets as well .

I didn’t really think Reach looked dead. The first people you run into are non-english-speaking farmers, and the majority of places you fight besides the city are all natural wilderness or space.

But yeah, more diversity would be great, but I don’t think it’s really 343 who started that. They’ve actually done better in that regard.

I noticed that when I was playing Halo PC, there seemed to be many more Hispanic and a few more African marines than in many of the other games.

I wish that’d return. it’s fine to have people speak English due to the audience and the fact that English is the business languages used today, so it makes sense that by then everyone should learn it. Some of them should also speak snippets of their own language too of course.

Speaking of races and languages, I’d also liked if the Covenant spoke a mix of English and their native languages. The Grunts should speak well with no mistakes and the other units should make many mistakes in their wording, especially the Jackals.

The reason why is because the Grunts taught themselves English since they were intercepting human comms. It makes no sense that they completely forgot the language in just a few years.

Other units shouldn’t know it as well as the Grunts, but should still speak it. It also makes more sense because the covies can protect their battle plans and yell curses at us at the same time.

Not gonna lie, I feel like focusing on diversity is a really bad idea. For infinite 343 should focus a lot more on story telling and not on diversity. Halo by its self is fairly fiverse anyway, and you guys must be the only people who actually sit and go “oh another white American marine. Oh another. And another”. I really 343 doesn’t listen to people like you and acctualy focuses on the game not getting political points.

You really necroed a 7 year old thread just to say no to diversity. Adding more diversity in the marines isn’t some sort of agenda. It would be a cool detail to sell the fact that UNSC is a UNITED NATIONS Space Command.

Dang, old thread revival.

Taking the hint from box office flops where actors and actresses blamed used every 'ist word out there to lay blame to everyone but their personal politics which actually was the reason why things failed because contrary to internet social media shout down fests, the majority of people don’t want these things forced down our throats while trying to escape from an already world doing it at every chance they can get, we should not try to pursue that agenda here and ruin Infinite just because of feelings. it’s a game, seeing females in the front lines let alone being able to be Spartans, black’s, hispanics, using equipment made by an obvious Asian name, or even an Asian female Spartan doesn’t even bother me. demanding to get your way and ruining it for the rest of us that want an escape from politics and to enjoy the game play that is pretty darn already apolitical from the get go, would be the nail in the coffin so to speak.

Seriously, it takes a seriously closeted hateful person to get burned up while playing a game by making the actual effort to notice these things from already formed confirmation biases, just because his or her’s feelings are hurt because it’s not to their liking by having every demography fully represented. What’s next? Tran Spartans and the 7 gazillion fake genders as well? -Yoink!-’s too with a love story between a human child and an adult Elite? Leave things be and stop trying to ruin nice things for everyone else, better yet if you you don’t like things how they are you go on ahead and make a game that suits your agenda, meanwhile the rest of us that aren’t unhappy because we don’t feel a need to make others miserable and just want to play Halo and not have things forced upon us that would drive us away.

Seriously, this is just gross and immature. Enjoy the game and stay apolitical, your heart will thank you.

Please dont revive old topics. Thank you.
