Stat padders are abundant (to no ones surprise) in objective gametypes and trash the whole experience for me and I believe for a whole others. Mainly due to the fact that losing has next to zero bearing on the overall outcome. I’ve spent games in CTF just running over my teammates, leaving with almost the same amount of XP.

Undoubtably this idea and thread are going to be buried under the piles of revisions 343 has ignored, but nevertheless I continue.

K/D should only count in game types where killing is the actual objective. I think for the most part this will allow objective game types to play like they should.

No longer would people hide away in objective to preserve their almighty K/D, they could actually without fear charge forward unto dawn with the rest of the team and secure that -Yoink!- flag.

Don’t get me wrong, I share the joy of gutting a spartan with my assault rifle just as much as the next guy.

If this is too much of a radical step, at the very least make the XP of the losing team be 30-40% of what if would be had they won. That way losing feels like -Yoink!- losing, and winning feels like actually winning. At least with H3 it rewarded and encouraged winning.

This whole K/D issue seems to be a problem in games that reward players for everything. All they have to worry about is kills and just by being in a game their XP is taken care of.

I don’t endorse stat padding in objectives but running mindlessly into the oppositions flag room isn’t a very good strategy though. Usually teams have at least one on D and if you just run in and grab the flag without trying to kill them you are more than likely going to die.

If I was running a full team for objectives I would still want decent slayers on my team as well. But not stat padders of course. A good slayer in the banshee on BTS Longbow KotH and CTF can pretty much secure a win for you.

Not doubting the utility of a good slayer, just that to encourage teamwork K/D should be left out of objective game types.

I remember playing Halo 3 or Bad Company 2.Had tons of fun because the main objective was winning, not having a decent K/D.

Well unless they make objective playlists social in Halo 4 I don’t see players who don’t play smart ‘winning’ very often.

A brilliant idea!

Too bad 343 are f****** idiots.

Those were the good old days, weren’t they?

I really don’t understand the incentive behind wanting a good K/D ratio, I don’t think it accurately judges your skill.

This is actually a pretty good idea. I play CTF a fair bit and like anyone else I like getting a few kills, but I ALWAYS play for the win. I will run flags like there’s no tomorrow if it will get me the win, I will never play solely for K/D. Only a goose would do that.

What I hate the most is that in objective games, when I am the only guy on my team playing for the objective, while everybody else is playing slayer, I am the dude with the least points on my team.
If you don’t gather objective points, you shouldn’t be rewarded.
(don’t tell me that while they are killing they are distracting the other team and avoiding them to reach the objective. while that is true, the rewards shouldn’t be points for the killings, but the points gathered from the objective, as a consequence from those kills)

Slaying is an important part of any objective game, if the entire enemy team is on the respawn screen you can bet that will be an easy flag cap. Then even when they respawn they will be all the way back at their home base. A slayer controlling top middle on Ragnarok will make it easier for his teammates to move around the map, while also restricting the movement of the enemy.

While grabbing flags and sacrificing yourself for a flag cap is important, you can’t deny the roll a slayer plays on the team.

Kill/deaths…K/D…in its strict sense…that is, killing and deaths, is for Slayer only.

Objective game types, while having the component kills/deaths in it,is far more about the objectives rather than the simple act of killing and dieing.

K/D stats do not belong in any other game type mode, than Slayer variants, such as BTIS/BTS/IS/SP/SWAT/Rumble Pit/FFA/Snipers and perhaps Flood as it too is about kills/deaths.
